Ashley's Pov
"Ashley, we need to break up," Aaron says.
"Huh? Why?" I ask, sadder than I expected to be.
This break up wasn't only of our fake relationship, but also probably our friendship and I didn't want that.
"Because, Tyler likes you, and I found another girl to replace you so yeah," He frowns.
That first piece of information makes me slightly happy but the second one doesn't.
I don't get it.
I'm supposed to be happy, screaming in joy, over the moon, but I'm not.
I am happy.
I am happy.
Then the information sinks in.
Tyler likes me!
A smile breaks out on my face but it doesn't meet my eyes.
Aaron frowns abit but its almost as if I had imagined it as it was gone a second later.
"You don't seem as happy as I thought you would be." Aaron points out.
"Yeah, I think so too. But that's great.. that he likes me."
"Yeah.. So what happens now? You know.. about us?" He asks.
"What about us? There is no us.. we are just friends.." I find myself frowning.
What is going on!
Why am I being so harsh.
I notice the frown on his face.
"No, Aaron.. I don't mean-"
"Yeah I know, we should just stay friends then?" He ask.
"Yes I think that's good. I don't wanna go back to being strangers Aaron."
"Yeah me neither.." He replies.
"So.. who is the new girl?" I ask.
This new girl seems to be bothering me for some reason.
"Um, her name is Kailani. She used to be my old best friend before she moved away and now she is back, and I asked her so she agreed." He says.
"Oh. Okay then." I purse my lips.
"Yeah, so.. when are you gonna admit your feelings to Tyler?" He asks.
"I don't know.. isn't it kinda awkward to be with him right after I broke up with you?" I ask.
"Yeah, it would be like, you are going for him as a rebound."
"What if I tell him I broke up with you because I liked him?" I ask.
"Um, yeah that would be a better idea."
"Okay then, I'll tell him on Monday."
He just nods in response.
This is so awkward.
"Are you hungry?" He asks.
"Yeah, kinda," I reply.
"Well you are in luck because... my mother is back and she made some delicious dinner!" He smiles.
His smile must be contagious because I catch myself smiling too.
Finally, the awkwardness is gone.
"Thats great!" I smile, this time it meets my eyes.
"She has missed you, she kept calling in everyday while she was away to ask about you. When she returned, every five minutes, she would come to my room to check on you," He smiles.
"Aww, that's sweet, I'm so happy to have her in my life." I smile.
"Me too, she is a great mom."
"How is she?" I ask referring to her sickness.
"Actually, she is holding up really well and chemo is going well! Her hair will start to fall off soon but the doctors said that there is a 70 percent chance she will survive," He smiles.
I smile back, instantly.
"Thats amazing Aaron, I'm so happy for you."
He smiles before grabbing my hand and slowly helping me up.
My whole body feels sore and it's really difficult for me to move.
Aaron notices and he puts one hand under my knees and the other one, round my back and lifts me up bridal style.
I will never admit it, but this is my favourite thing ever.
I hook my arms around his neck and just stare at him, his perfect features.
His beautiful blue eyes, his brown curly hair, his well defined jaw, his pink lips.
Maybe he is right, maybe if I had met him first, I'd fallen for him.
Not because of his looks, no. That's just an addition, but because of his heart.
When he is around me, I loosen up, I can fully be myself whereas when I'm with Tyler, I force myself to be someone I'm not for his validation.
Of course I don't change everything about me because whether he likes it or not, I'm an amazing person to be around. I only maybe change a few things about my appearance.
As shitty as it sounds, it is true.
He catches me staring at me as we are halfway down the stairs and mutters a quick 'What?'
"Nothing." I smile.
"Oh my, Ashley baby you are awake!" Ella says.
Aaron quickly let's me down as Ella engulfs me in a hug.
I wrap my arms around her, ignoring the pain.
"Hey Ella, how are you? I've missed you," I smile as we pull away from the hug.
"I've missed you too dear, I've been so worried about you. Are you feeling okay?" She asks.
"Yeah I am, thanks to Aaron." I smile and he returns it.
"Yeah, what happened? How did you get hurt? I asked Aaron but he refused to tell me anything." Ella says.
"I'm sorry Ella, but I prefer not to talk about it."
"Oh it's alright, just know, I'm always here if you need me," She smiles.
I nod in response.
It's great knowing I have a few people I can always count on.
"I'm hungry mom," Aaron whines, jokingly.
"Alright, alright. I made some soup and a new rice dish, let me know if there's anything you don't like," She smiles.
"I'm sure the only thing that will come out of my mouth are moans," I smile not realising the stupidity that left my mouth.
Aaron's eyes widen followed by his mom, followed by mine.
"I mean moans because of how good the food will be," I quickly correct myself as Aaron breaks down into laughter.
"Not funny!" I whisper to him.
"Very funny," He whispers back.
"It's okay dear," His mother chuckles.
We walk to the dining room as Ella calls out for Aubrey.
"Ashley!" Aubrey comes running to me, pulling me to a hug.
"Hey Aubrey!" I smile.
"I missed youu," she smiles as she pulls away.
"Me too, Aubrey."
She sits herself beside me as we start serving ourselves.
I wait for everyone to finish serving themselves before starting to eat.
I taste the rice first and, damn is it good.
I almost let out a moan but reminded myself that I am at a table, with Aaron's family so I restrain from doing so.
"This is amazing Ella," I smile.
"Yeah mom, it's delicious," Aaron agrees and Aubrey nods in agreement.
"Thank you."
"So, how was your trip to your brothers'?" I ask.
"It was really good, I needed a change of the atmosphere so I thought a visit to him would be great."
She continues explaining all the fun stuff she did with her brother which made me miss my own.
I wish Jake was here right now, with me.
I shake off the thought and continue devouring the delicious meal in front of me.
Once we were done with our dinner, I offered helping Ella clean up but she immediately refused.
Honestly, I'm kinda happy she did because the pain my body is in, makes it almost impossible for me to move much.
"Hey Lee, you up to watch a movie?" Aaron asks.
"Yeah sure, what movie?" I ask.
I'm in the mood to watch a movie. I'm really bored and the sofas in the movie room are so damn comfortable so... it's a win win.
"How about a horror movie?" He smirks.
No.
I hate horror movies.
Just no.
"Nope."
"Ah come on, is the Ashley scared?" He whispers in my ear, causing a shiver to run down my spine.
"Shut up," I quickly muttered.
"Come on, let's go." He held his hand out and I took it
He helps me down on one of the sofas, gets some snacks along with a blanket, and lies down beside me.
I lay on his chest as he picks out the horror movie and suddenly, I feel his heart beat increasing as well as mine.
I ignore it.
He puts on Nightmare at Elm's Street, and I mentally curse myself for agreeing to this.
"Just a heads up, you are gonna hear a lot of screaming from me tonight," I warn.
"Oh love, I could hear you scream anytime," He winks and I can tell he is joking.
I ignore him and engross myself in the movie.
I hope I don't scream too much.
