KARA
Forty minutes later, the bell rang, dismissing us from class, and I said goodbye to Adam.
I nervously walked toward Layla, who was standing by the door, waiting for me. She looked like an angry mom, tapping her foot impatiently while her arms were crossed.
âHey.â I gave her a sheepish smile. I was hoping that she didnât notice anything that happened between Adam and me, but I highly doubted that. Layla had been shooting daggers at Adam the entire class.
âHey?â Layla asked, raising an eyebrow as we walked into the crowded hallway.
âI donât think so. What the hell happened between you two? It started off as World War III, and then you guys were giggling.â Layla waited for my response.
I stared around the hall at all the wandering eyes. âWe made up,â I replied bluntly.
Layla skidded to a stop. âYou what?â I found her gaze, blue eyes blazing. She looked beyond pissed.
I was actually shaking now, because I was so nervous as to what was about to happen. Layla hated Adam so much, I was surprised that heâs still breathing.
âHow? After what he did to you!â she hissed.
I was beginning to get frustrated. Layla was causing a scene, and the last thing I needed right now was more attention focused on me.
âYou think I donât remember what he did?â I gritted my teeth.
âI know, Layla. Okay? But lately things have been crazy, and I just want to put that behind me. Before you ask, no, I will never get back with him.
âI already told him that. I also told him we could only be friends, and that he needs to prove himself before I trust him again.â
I breathed deeply. âTo be honest, I only agreed to try to be friends to get him off my back.â
I saw her body drastically change from angry and stiff to calm and relaxed. âOh, thank God. I thought you were actually going to go back to that asshole.â
Layla held her hand over her heart. I rolled my eyes at how dramatic she was being.
âAnyway, Iâm going to go now,â I said slowly while she began talking to herself.
I walked the opposite way and weaved through the crowd, making my escape. It was the last class of the day.
Class flew by, and when the bell rang, I was the first to leave the room. When I approached my locker, I saw Jason waiting for me.
âHey,â Jason said, leaning against my locker. My eyes trailed his lean body until they met his face.
âHi,â I replied slowly, narrowing my eyes at him. Jason was still smirking, and it made me start to think that he was hiding something because it wasnât his usual smirk. It was one that promised trouble.
âWhy are you here?â I raised an eyebrow, trying not to make the question sound rude.
Which didnât work.
âOuch.â Jason pretended to wince and laid a hand over his heart. âCanât I say hi?â He dropped his hand and leaned closer to me.
âIâm starting to think you donât want to be friends with me.â When I leaned away, he smirked again.
âI did say donât make me regret it,â I replied instantly, and he smiled back in amusement but shook his head as if he were getting off track.
âAnyway, Iâm here to tell you that youâre coming over today,â Jason said, leaning back against the lockers.
âYour mom said we would start the tutoring next week,â I said quietly so no one besides the two of us could hear.
âI didnât say you were going to tutor me.â The signature smirk was back on his face, and I stared at him in confusion. Why did he want me to come over?
Once I was done returning my items to my locker, I turned back to Jason, who was patiently waiting for me.
âReady?â Jason asked.
âI never said I was going.â
The smile that promised trouble was back. âOh, youâre coming.â I shut my locker and turned to walk away from him, stopping when he spoke.
âKara, I will make you,â Jason threatened, but I could hear the playfulness in his voice.
I continued to walk, but he followed closely behind.
âHey, Kara,â Jess greeted me as I walked out of the schoolâs front doors. âWant to come over?â
âSurââ
âNo can do. Sheâs coming over to my house,â Jason answered for me. Jessâs dark brown eyes widened before she finally broke out into a smirk and wiggled her eyebrows at me. I rolled my eyes at her.
âNo, Iâm not. What did you want to do?â I asked Jess, but before she could answer, Layla walked up to us.
âActually, never mind. Layla is here; you can go to Jasonâs now.â Jess smiled innocently, and I saw Laylaâs face go into shock. It was quickly replaced with a smug smile of her own.
âYou heard her.â Jason nudged me, knowing there was nothing else I could use as an excuse. âWe should go now.â He watched me as I stood glued to my spot. Part of me wanted to go, but I was too stubborn to admit it.
âIâm not going.â I stared back into his bright blue eyes. Jason intently stared back, entrancing me. âWhat are you doing?â I gasped in shock as he picked me up off the ground.
âI told you Iâd make you go,â Jason said as he began to walk away from my friends.
Jess grinned widely, and Layla sent me a wink. I sighed in defeat. âI can walk, you know,â I said to him.
âToo late.â I heard the car door open. âWeâre already here.â Jason pressed a hand on the back of my thigh, cupping right below my ass. My lips parted in surprise.
The heat of his touch made my pussy clench. I slid off his shoulder, feeling my feet hit the ground a second later.
My legs slightly wobbled, and I stared up at him. Jason and I stood, confused by the moment. Electricity crackled, and I wanted nothing more than for him to push me up against his car and do as he pleased.
âWe should go,â he whispered as he stepped back. I nodded and sat in the passengerâs seat. The engine roared to life, and Jason sped out of the parking lot.
We both sat in silence, enjoying the song on the radio.
My mind began to go into overdrive as I imagined Jasonâs house and why he wanted me over in the first place if it wasnât for tutoring.
This was going to be a long afternoon.
