KARA

Jason’s lips moved, but I was paralyzed. The only thing running through my mind was my mom. I didn’t want to believe Sarah.

Reality came crashing down when someone grabbed my arm.

“Let’s get out of here.” I glanced over at Jason, whose clear blue eyes were gazing down at me. I nodded lightly, in no mood to argue. He proceeded to lead us back into the hallway and out the school’s front doors.

I shivered when the cool air from outside surrounded me. The only thing that was warm was my hand, which was in Jason’s.

We got to his car, and he handed me his sweater from the passenger’s seat. I pulled it over my head, overwhelmed by his woodsy scent. The heavenly smell soothed me.

“Where are we going?” I asked, tilting my head to look at him. I was exhausted from all of the drama and stress. It was beginning to take a toll on me. High school was a rollercoaster of moments.

Jason simply replied with a soft smile and sped out of the parking lot. I was too tired to pester the answer out of him. Instead, he asked, “How are you feeling?”

I continued to stare out of the window. It was a dark and cloudy day, and it reflected how I felt on the inside. It was drizzling, and the air was cool.

Jason was blasting the heat. The hot air soothed the cold ache in my toes. They were freezing.

How did I feel?

I took a moment to think about it. I was feeling so many things at once: furious, ecstatic, muddled, gloomy. I was an overwhelming contradiction.

“Human,” I finally responded. I could see him giving me a confused glance from the corner of my eye. “I’m feeling more human than I ever have before.”

All these emotions were coursing through me to the point where I wanted to shut them off. My world felt so overwhelming at the moment.

I glanced over at Jason and took my time to study him after being apart for a couple of weeks. I wanted to drink him all in. ~That~ would distract me.

My thighs automatically began to rub together as I let my eyes wander over his body.

Jason’s golden hair was damp and messy due to the rain. His defined jawline twitched as he contemplated what to say.

His broad shoulders were slouched back as he had one hand on the steering wheel and the other on the stick. His plump pink lips seemed to look pouty as he stared at the road ahead.

~Fuck~, he was hot.

But he was also kind, and caring, and infuriating.

So much had changed because of the guy sitting next to me. I couldn’t help but wonder if it was fate that made my friends drag me out of bed and to that party.

That he had just happened to witness Adam and me, and proceeded to punch him.

“That’s deep of you,” Jason teased, not realizing that I’d been staring at him for the past minute. His eyes were still focused on the road in front of us.

“Let’s go to the cabin,” I blurted before I could think. He looked at me from the corner of his eye. I felt like getting away from this place. I was beginning to feel suffocated.

Jason’s eyebrows shot up. I guess I had caught him off guard. “Fuck it,” he answered, causing me to look at him in surprise. There was a smirk on his lips.

I wasn’t expecting him to agree. It was an impulsive answer, but it’s what would make me feel okay.

Running away to my own little world—with Jason.

“Thank you,” I breathed, feeling completely exhausted. Jason nodded back, and there was a comfortable silence between us.

I laid my head against the window and watched the scenery around us as we drove. It continued to drizzle until slowly, bigger droplets began to form and the rain came pouring down.

I watched as the droplets slid down the window, and I imagined them as their own little forms, racing to see who could reach the bottom first.

I continued to watch the droplets of water until I felt my eyelids become heavier and heavier.

I was nudged softly, and I snapped my eyes open. I glanced to my left to see Jason sitting in the driver’s seat, grinning widely at me.

I looked around and noticed the familiar cabin. I couldn’t help but smile at the fact that Jason had actually driven me hours away.

I stepped out of the car and gasped when the rain fell down on me, engulfing me in a cold frenzy. Jason laughed. I turned, playfully glaring at him.

“It’s still raining—what are we supposed to do?” The car door slammed shut behind me, and we both stood in the rain. I hadn’t thought this far ahead.

Jason grabbed my hand and pulled me down the path toward the cabin. I reached for the small rock hidden in the bushes and grabbed the spare key from underneath.

Once the door was unlocked, we both tumbled through the door, thankful that we weren’t being rained on—even though we were already soaked.

I took a moment to think about what to do next.

Fuck it. “Come on.” I grabbed Jason’s hand and led him back out into the rain. I didn’t stop until we were on the dock. It was too late to think about being dry and warm. I had to pull through with my idea.

“We’re going to go for a little swim,” I answered as he opened his mouth. His wet blond hair pressed against his forehead. I watched a few water droplets drip down over his eyes.

Those damn blue eyes.

They were latched on to me, and I couldn’t help but wonder what he was thinking.

JASON

I stared down at Kara’s face. Her big brown eyes were studying me.

I couldn’t help but stare at her in admiration. She was a damn mess.

Kara’s brown hair was wet and sticking in every direction. Her makeup was smeared, black lines streaming down her face along with water drops, but she somehow still managed to look beautiful.

This girl. This stubborn, sarcastic, infuriating girl never ceased to stun me.

Was this love? My head began to spin. My heart, which was racing incredibly fast, was overwhelmed with this feeling.

~It’s too soon, isn’t it? I can’t be in love with her. I can’t fall in love. I’m only eighteen. Then again, time can’t measure the impact someone can make on you. Human emotion is raw and uncontrollable.~

The other part of me was radiating and argued that age and time didn’t matter. People meet and fall in love all the time—young and old, in days and over the years.

Connections like this don’t happen with everyone.

I was torn between pushing this feeling away and wanting to tell Kara how she made me feel. I was afraid, though.

Afraid that I’d scare her away and be moving things too quickly. So instead I did the only thing I could think of.

I pushed her into the lake.

Thunder roared as she flew into the water, blocking out her scream. I couldn’t help but laugh, but then stopped once I realized that she was going to kill me.

Within seconds she resurfaced and gave me the deadliest look on earth. She swam back over and pulled herself up onto the wet wooden dock.

“It’s on, Kade,” Kara snapped, but it sounded playful. I was surprised she hadn’t torn me apart. I liked that she didn’t take everything so seriously and knew how to enjoy the moment.

“You’ll never win.” I grinned down at her. What she did next surprised the hell out of me.

My mouth parted slightly as she pulled my drenched hoodie over her head, revealing a red bra. I couldn’t help but let my eyes wander over her smooth, tan skin.

“Yeah?” she mocked, and continued to take off her denim shorts. She never took her eyes off mine. I almost dropped dead at how gorgeous she looked.

Here, the girl I was head over heels ~in love~ with stood in a red bra and black underwear. I didn’t know what to do. I was completely stunned.

I could’ve been hit by lightning and died happy right then and there. I could feel my dick harden against my jeans.

“Y-yeah,” I tried to reply, sounding confident.

Fuck. Why did my dumb ass have to stutter? I was drooling more than a damn dog on a hot summer day, and she was looking hotter than hell itself.

Kara knew she had caught me off guard and let out a small giggle, which snapped me out of my beautiful fantasy.

I couldn’t let her win.

I swiftly pulled off my hoodie and jeans, standing in nothing but my boxers and socks. I smirked when her eyes widened and traveled down my body.

Two can play at that game.

Kara let her eyes wander a bit more before meeting my eyes. She gave away no expression, but I saw that she smirked to herself. “Might as well just go skinny dipping.” She turned to face the water.

I watched as her hands went up behind her back and she popped off her bra. She glanced at me over her shoulder, throwing her bra at me before I could see anything else.

It hit me in the face, and I was left dazed.

I pushed my wet hair back and out of my eyes so I could get a better view.

She let out a loud laugh before jumping back into the water.

“Damn it, Kara,” I breathed out before taking a deep breath and following after her. ~Here goes nothing.~

The water rushed all around me, and I kicked my way back up to the surface. This water was freezing. I could feel goosebumps erupt all over my skin.

My head pushed up above the surface and the first thing I heard was Kara’s beautiful, melodic laughter. I wiped the water out of my eyes and opened them to see her grinning widely.

“Aren’t you freezing?” I asked, bewildered.

She shrugged, causing her shoulders to rise above the water. I couldn’t see anything besides that; the water was very dark and waves danced all over. It was a blur.

The rain continued to pour down.

I caught her studying me and I smirked slightly. “What are you doing?” She narrowed her eyes at me.

KARA

That stupid smirk. It drove me crazy. I tried to swim away as he got closer to me. His blue eyes had darkened, and his eyes held a playful stare.

Saying that he looked incredibly sexy was an understatement. Not to mention that I had to stop myself from touching his abs when he took his shirt off.

Damn teenage hormones.

Jason pushed his wet blond hair back, causing it to stick out in every direction. He continued to swim toward me, stopping once we were face-to-face.

Our legs bumped into each other as we kicked to stay above water.

We silently sat there staring at each other, embracing the moment. Thunder roared in the distance again. The sound of the rain splashing down against the water filled my surroundings.

The next thing I knew, Jason’s hands cupped my face, and he pressed his lips against mine. His lips felt incredibly soft; I couldn’t help but let out a surprised moan.

The kiss began to turn into a makeout, and I tangled my fingers into his wet hair, gripping roughly as heat consumed me.

I let out another small moan as I pushed up against him. My breasts were flush against his warm chest, giving me relief from the cold water.

Jason began to move us. I gasped when he grabbed my hips and turned me, pushing me against the metal ladder.

I could feel him hard against my ass. I quickly climbed onto the dock again—Jason followed and returned his lips to mine.

I yelped in surprise when he picked me up. I wrapped my legs around him to stay in place, while his hands palmed my ass, holding my heat against his cock.

I let out another small moan when he began to kiss and suck my neck, leaving a trail of fire.

My body was overwhelmed by his touch.

“I like you so much, Kara,” Jason whispered against my lips. I continued to kiss him like he was my last breath of air. We were both breathing heavily.

“I like you too,” I mumbled back against his lips. I don’t think he could ever understand how much I liked him. Jason drove me crazy in so many different ways.

He infuriated me, but he also made me want to hug him forever. I would’ve never imagined Jason and me together, and I definitely would’ve never thought that I’d fall for him.

Especially not this hard.

Jason pulled his lips away from me and put me back on my feet. We both took a minute to catch our breath before speaking.

I blushed and crossed my arms over my chest. It wasn’t anything he hadn’t seen before, but I couldn’t help it.

Jason pressed his forehead against mine and smiled slightly—before shaking his head. “I’m in love with you, Kara.”
