Chapter 1008
Comelia worned about the possible consequences, hurried back to hold him, âJeremy, chill out, man. He just cussed me out, Iâve already got him back in my headâ
Who knew if it was her words or her warm hug that did the trick, but the viciousness in Marcus eyes vanished without a trace. When he looked at her, all he had was warmth âWhyâd you come back? Wait outside for me
Cornelia said, âPromise me, no rash moves.â
Marcus chuckled âRelax, if I wanted to ruin him, there are plenty of ways to do it without leaving a trace or evidence thatâd get me in trouble.â
Upon hearing this, Cornelia was finally reassured. She quickly left the room, not hearing whatever was said behind her. When she stepped outside, she found Ayden.
âIâm really sorry,â Ayden apologized, âIt was my oversight that got you taken by Brennerâs men.â
Comelia said, âItâs not your faultâ
âI was careless â Ayden had failed to recognize the danger when Cornelia suddenly went down to get something from the car, and in a blink of an eye, she was taken away.
He immediately took action, searching for her throughout the city. After tracking the route of the car Cornella was in, he reported the situation to Marcus in Riverton.
He didnât expect Marcus to be on a plane to Rosenberg as well, having just gotten off the plane. So, he came here first to ensure Corneliaâs safety, while waiting for Marcus to arrive from the airportâ¦
âThereâs no need to blame yourself,â Comelia said to Ayden. âAyden, how long have you been with Marcus? Do you know about his feud with Brennen?â
âIve been with President Hartley for over twenty yearsâ Ayden respectfully answered. âWhen I was a child, he saved my mother and me. I didnât know much back then. Everything I know, he paid for me to learn. I wasnât with him the year he had the conflict with Brennen, so Iâm not quite sure about what exactly happened between them.â
Cornelia asked, âWhat about your mother, Dr. Dawson? She was with Marcus at the time, right? Did she ever mention anything to you?â
Ayden shook his head
Cornelia asked. âWhere did Marcus send your mother?â
Ayden answered, âHe allowed her to retire early.â
Cornelia asked. âDid she ever complain about us?â
Ayden replied, âShe didnât understand her role and made mistakes. President Hartley was very lenient in not punishing her. She has no right to blame him.â
Cornelia asked, âDo you have her contact info? I want to call her to ask about what happened back then.â
Ayden answered, âI have it, but I canât give it to you.â
Cornelia raised an eyebrow and asked, âWhy not?â
Ayden replied, âBecause President Hartley doesnât want you to interfere with his issues with Brennen. Besides, my mother wonât blame President Hartley, but sheâll blame you She believes that the reason why President Hartley let her retire early and not stay with him was because of youâ
Cornelia realized that there was no chance of getting the details about the past from Dr. Dawson.
âMaybe she should blame me,â Cornelia slightly smiled, turning her head, she could see Marcusâ upright figure in the pavilion in the distance from the doorway.
