Chapter 1125
Cornelia asked, âRemember that will in my grannyâs diary?â
Marcus nodded, âYeah, sure.â
Cornelia went on, âDo you feel sorry for the mother who wrote that letter? If she were still alive, she wouldâve raised her kid well,â
Marcus cut her off, âYou found out, didnât you?â
Cornelia was taken aback for a moment, then after a few seconds, she came back to her senses, âWhen did you find out?â
Marcus replied, âWhen I saw that letter, I suspected it might have been written by your granny. So, I had same people look into it and they found some bits and pieces.â
Cornelia asked urgently, âWhat did they find?â
Marcus answered, âTurns out, your grandpa Walter never existed. He was a figment of your grannyâs imagination. She came to Rosenberg with your father and told everyone her husband had passed away. And this unseen husband was Walter.â
Cornelia bitterly said, âYou saw through it, but I didnât.â
Marcus comforted her gently, âYou got too caught
caring for your granny and forgot to think critically. Donât beat yourself up.â
Cornelia asked, âSo how did you find out who my real grandpa was?â
Marcus replied, âI havenât found out who your real grandpa is yet. After your granny got to Rosenberg with your dad, she changed their names. You know, back in those days, identity verifications were pretty lax. Your granny coughed up some dough, found a sponsor, and easily got a new identity. So, nobody in Rosenberg who knew her had any idea who she was before. Without a trace of her old identity, I couldnât find your real grandpa.â
Cornelia knew why Marcus couldnât find out, but Alfredo could. Because Alfredo knew her granny, had seen her, and knew about her past. As long as he saw a photo of her granny, he would know who she was.
But Marcus was different. He hadnât seen what her granny looked like when she was young, so naturally, it would take more time, money, and effort to
find out.
Cornelia said, âYou donât have to dig anymore. None of this matters.â
Marcus asked, âDid you find it?â
Cornelia said, âJeremy, can you not be so damn smart? I didnât even say anything, yet you know everything.â
Marcus hugged her and chuckled, âDid Alfredo help you find it? Was he worried about you having some wicked plan for Grandpa Augustine?â
âYes, he helped me find it.â Cornelia didnât want to hide anything from Marcus, but she had to keep this secret from Alfredo. She would keep the secret that Grandpa Augustine was her real grandpa forever and act as if nothing had happened
But the next second, Marcus revealed the secret Cornelia wanted to hide, âThe first time Grandpa Augustine saw you, he took a real shining to you. I guess thatâs the power of blood ties.â
Cornelia looked at him in surprise, âWho told you Grandpa Augustine was my real grandpa?â
Marcus said, âI just figured it out.â
Cornelia asked. âHow did you figure it out?â
Marcus continued, âIf we look at it from different perspectives, we can see that whatâs recorded in Grandpa Augustineâs and Granny Rebeccaâs diaries. actually matches. Granny Rebeccaâs diary said your father was a foundling, but the DNA test results between you and Granny Rebecca show youâre related. There must be a contradiction somewhere. But if we follow this lead, everything becomes clear.â
Cornelia couldnât help but admire, âIâm so lucky to be your wife, not your enemy. Otherwise, I mightâve died at your hands without even knowingâ
Marcus laughed, âDoes Alfredo not want you to tell Grandpa Augustine the truth?â
Cornelia asked, âJeremy, are you even human? Were you by my side when Alfredo talked to me?â
Marcus replied, âIt was the distraught look on your face when you came back that tipped me off.â
