Chapter 1127
Cornelia didnât wanna hear all that jazz that troubled her. So, she moved closer to Marcus and hugged him, âGrandpa Augustine took me around to meet all these folks this afternoon, where the hell were you? I didnât see hide nor hair of youâ
Cornelia thought Grandpa Augustine would introduce her and Marcus to everyone together. But at the Duran familyâs mansion, she found Marcus had upped and vanished. She didnât see him at all that afternoon.
Marcus gently patted her head, âWhatâs the matter? You missed me or something?â
Cornelia didnât hide her feelings, I missed you. More than I thought I would.â
Cornelia herself wasnât sure when Marcus started to take up such a big part of her life.
Her words deeply touched Marcus. Heâd been longing for her to say something like this, but also scared of it, âHow much did you miss me?â
Cornelia looked up at him, blushing, and whispered, âI missed you a lot. Without you by my side, Iâm always lost in my own world.â
Marcus tried to control his urge to kiss her, âThatâs not a good sign. One should not depend too much on another.â
Cornelia started to feel anxious, âMarcus, Iâm telling you that I miss you. Just tell me you miss me too I donât need your rational analysis!â
Marcus said, âLove is mutual attraction between two people. But in the end, we all need reason.â
Cornelia got pissed off and yelled, âMarcus, are you trying to piss me off to death, so you can go after some young pretty girl?â
Marcus answered, âI have no such intentions.â
Cornelia said, âYouâre not that heartless then. Where the hell were you this afternoon?â
Marcus replied, âI had a card game with Steven, Lucas, and a few othersâ
Cornelia asked jealously. âWho were you with? Women or men? Does it matter?â
Marcus answered, âLenny.â
The moment Cornelia heard this name, she shut her trap. Such an important figure indeed worth Marcus leaving her for.
Marcus asked, âWhy so quiet all of a sudden?â
Cornelia replied, âI donât know what to sayâ
Marcus said, âNo matter what it is, Iâm all ears.â
Cornelia thought for a moment, âMy grandma, my mom, and Skyler, are they really in heaven now? Sometimes I feel like Iâm stuck in a long dream, and everything will go back to normal when I wake up. Iâll see each one of them.â
Marcus couldnât answer these questions, so he lowered his head and kissed her.
Just as they were passionately kissing, a knock on the door broke the moment, followed by Grandpa Augustineâs voice, âNelly, are you in there?â
Cornelia got startled and quickly pushed Marcus away, frantically trying to fix her clothes.
Her nerves got the best of her and her clothes became even more disheveled, her face turning red from the anxiety, âWhat do I do now? How am I supposed to face Grandpa Augustine like this?â
Marcus gave a slight smile, âGo freshen up in the bathroom, Iâll deal with Grandpa Augustineâ
âRight, why didnât I think of that? Donât let him in until Iâm ready.â With that, Cornelia dashed for the bathroom.
When he heard the bathroom door close, Marcus slowly got up to answer the door.
When the door opened and Grandpa Augustine saw Marcus, the smile on his face disappeared instantly. âWhat are you doing here?â
