Chapter 1160
Having wrapped up the conversation, Marcus waved his hand dismissively, âYou go ahead and do your thing.â
âAlright.â Gloom replied.
When he left, Dr. Lester let out a sigh of relief, thinking that Marcus could finally have a proper rest. But the next second, Marcusâ phone started to buzz
again.
Dr. Lester said. âMarc, can you just switch off your phone? No job is more important than your life, man.â
Marcus didnât even bat an eyelid, he just picked up the call.
Dr. Lester had no idea who was on the other end of the line. He only heard Marcus say, âYeah, make sure she gets the hang of things in no time. I have more plans when I get back.â
With that said, Marcus ended the call.
Dr. Lester asked, âCan you finally lie down and rest now?â
Marcus asked, âDid the folks you reached out to arrive yet?â
Dr. Lester answered, âEveryone is scattered around the world. I told them to fly over here ASAP, but itâs gonna take at least a couple of days to get everyone together.â
Marcus didnât care about the time, âHow sure are you that you can cure me?â
Dr. Lester replied, â1â¦â
It was not that Dr. Lester was unwilling to answer, but even though he was hailed as a miracle doctor, he had no confidence he could cure Marcus. Last night, he took Marcus to the hospital for a full body checkâup, but the frightening thing was they couldnât find anything wrong.
The poison was slowly corroding his body, but there were no visible signs of internal damage. By the time the damage was discovered, his organs would burst instantly, leaving only a thin layer of skin, and death was the only path left.
What Marcus was most worried about was Cornelia, âYou have to take good care of Corneliaâ
Dr. Lester grumbled, âWhy donât you take care of Cornelia yourself? Who would look after your wife?â
âCorneliaâs parents passed away a long time ago. She was brought up by Granny Rebecca. Despite her carefree outward appearance, sheâs actually pretty sensitive inside. If she finds out about my condition, sheâll definitely lose it. Marcus said.
âDo you think you can keep this from her forever?â Dr. Lester asked.
âEven if I canât, I must. No accidents can happen. Marcus said.
Dr. Lester suggested, âBut from what I see, Cornelia is very brave. She would definitely want to fight this illness with you instead of being kept in the dark.â Marcus didnât say anything more. He knew very well how much Cornelia valued love and loyalty. It was precisely because she was so loyal and loving that he couldnât tell her. Granny Rebeccaâs death had already dealt a huge blow to Cornelia. Even with Marcus by her side, she had almost broken down a few times.
If she were to watch him leave this world without being able to do anything, he was sure that she would lose her mind. Marcus would never let such a thing happen.
Dr. Lester added, âIf you donât want to tell her, I respect your decision. For now, you need to rest and cooperate with the treatment. We have to believe that miracles can happenâ
Marcus gave a weak smile and closed his eyes, âWill there really be a miracle?â
Dr. Lester nodded firmly, âYes! There definitely will be!â
He was not just talking to Marcus, but also reassuring himself. He was telling himself that he had to find a way to save Marcus.
But by then, Marcus could no longer hear him. After lying down, he slipped into a state of unconsciousness.
