Chapter 1176
Grandpa Augustine said, âGranny Rebecca might not have been a local from Rosenberg, but boy, could she whip up some mean Rosenberg dishes. She was such a classy lady. I just wish I had more time with her, I lost her too soon. Never got to stick around or taste her legendary barbecue pork chops.â
Cornelia said, âIâm sorry. I didnât mean to bring up Granny Rebeccaâ¦
Grandpa Augustine said, âNah, you didnât bring it up. Even though I know I wonât see Granny Rebecca again, I still wanna know more about her. If you donât mind the bother, tell me more about her.â
âSure.â Cornelia nodded.
Actually, whether Grandpa Augustine asked or not, Cornelia planned to spend more time with him, chat more, and try to avoid future regrets as much as
possible.
No matter how robust Grandpa Augustine looked, he was old after all, and who knew how much longer he had.
Cornelia had lost too many loved ones. She didnât spend enough quality time with them before, especially when Granny Rebecca fell ill and came to Riverton, she didnât properly accompany her.
It wasnât until she lost Granny Rebecca that she felt deep regret. Now, Cornelia didnât want the same regret to happen to Grandpa Augustine.
Grandpa Augustine never thought that Cornelia would actually sit with him in the yard for half a day, quietly. He also didnât expect Cornelia to answer his questions about Granny Rebecca so patiently. This kid, she was growing on him. He liked her so much that he wanted to give her everything in the world. They chatted for about two or three hours. If it wasnât for Marcusâ sudden call, Cornelia would have continued chatting.
Seeing Marcusâ call, Cornelia gave Grandpa Augustine a sweet smile, âMarc is calling, Iâll take it first.â
Grandpa Augustine chuckled, âGo ahead. Iâll wait for you in the restaurant, I wonât interrupt you guys.â
Cornelia said. âThank you!â
Before Grandpa Augustine could leave, Cornelia excitedly answered the call, âYou finally called me.â
Marcusâ voice came through, âHave you had lunch?â
Cornelia said, âIâm about to have lunch with Grandpa Augustine.â
Marcus said, âThen you go eat first, Iâll hang up.â
Cornelia hurriedly said, âTalking to you is more important than eating.â
Marcus paused for a few seconds, then said, âCornelia, you should eat firstâ
Cornelia was speechless. What now? He had pissed her off again! Marcus was such a nitpicker.
He said, âGo eat. You have to eat properly every meal, you canât starve yourself.â
âJeremy!â Cornelia called him.
âHmm?â Marcus asked.
âI finally got to talk to you, finally got to hear your voice, why do you always push me away?â Cornelia paused slightly, then blushed and said, âI never realized before, that when you like someone, if you canât see him, the longing for him can be so painful.â
