Chapter 1316
Kurtis actually took the initiative to call her and apologize, even suggesting she continue her role as a scriptwriter. Cornelia wouldnât believe that all this happened without someone pulling the strings behind the scenes.
âWho helped me out?â Cornelia asked.
âThereâs no need for anyone else. Just you being a Duran is enoughâ Kurtis replied.
Oh, so that was why. Cornelia didnât know whether to feel relieved or sad. Somewhere along the line, the rules of the game had changed. Now, society was all about who had the deepest pockets and the biggest influence. Without the Durans backing her, her fight for justice wouldâve been like David taking on Goliath. Cornelia didnât even want to think about it.
âHereâs my number.â Kurtis continued, âSave it. If you run into any workârelated issues, give me a call. Iâll handle it.â
âThanks, I will â Cornelia replied.
âIf youâre free, Iâd like to invite you out for a meal after Christmas.â Kurtis offered.
âIâve been feeling a little under the weather recently, might not be up for it.â Cornelia replied.
*No worries. Weâll be working together, thereâll be plenty of opportunities. Iâll let you go now, goodbye!â Kurtis said
âGoodbye!â Cornelia hung up.
Just as she did, there was a knock on the door. She opened it to find an adorable Emily standing there, saying, âNelly, Augustine asked me to tell you itâs time for breakfast.â
Emily was so cute, Cornelia couldnât help herself and pinched his cheeks, âAlright, letâs go eat.â
He tilted his head looking at Corneliaâs belly, âNelly, can I touch your belly?â
âOf course.â Cornelia bent down slightly so Emily could reach.
Emily gently ran his hand over Corneliaâs belly, âNelly, I think I felt the baby move.â
Cornelia smiled, âThe baby is already seven months old, itâll be born in a couple of months. So, of course, sheâs moving.â
âWho will the baby look like?â Emily asked.
âMy baby will definitely look like me.â Cornelia answered.
âThen sheâll be beautiful, just like you.â Emily said.
âThank you for your blessing.â Cornelia replied.
âNelly.â Emily started again.
âWhat is it?â Cornelia asked.
âHave you thought about finding a dad for the baby?â Emily asked.
âWho have you been talking to?â Cornelia inquired.
âI wouldnât do that! Just sell my opinion for a few measly dollars? It was Jarvis, he bought me a limited edition Iron Man toy.â Emily explained.
âDonât you have any thoughts of your own?â Cornelia asked.
âBut Jarvis is really great. Heâs rich, handsome, and treats you and the baby really well. You wouldnât be losing out if you married him.â Emily
reasoned.
