Chapter 1326
âBut Iâm nearly 27, and three years later Iâll be 30. Only he would think Iâm still a kid who doesnât know any better.â Rosie said.
Comelia said, âThatâs just because Lucas spoils you rotten, thatâs why he talks like that.â
Hannah replied, âRosie, listen here, donât flaunt your love life in front of us divorcees. Careful or we might just gang up and leave you out in the cold.â
Rosie retorted, âWhoâs flaunting? Iâm genuinely unsure of his thoughts. Iâve asked him, but he wonât spill the beans. Thatâs why I wanted to hear your take. Youâre outsiders; you should have a clearer picture.â
Cornelia said, âAs an outsider, all I see is that Lucas is head over heels for you. If you have doubts, Rosie, ask him directly. Clear the air and quit overthinking.â
Just as Hannah was about to speak, her phone buzzed with her brother Farleyâs voice, âYour exâhusband is here.â
Rosie was quick on the uptake, âHannah, why is President Dixon at your place? Shouldnât he be spending Christmas with his family and girlfriend? Did he only realize what he lost when you were gone?â
Hannah replied, âI donât need him to tell me how good I am.â
Rosie continued, âI just want to know why heâs seeking you out during Christmas?â
Cornelia listened without interruption. She always had a hunch that Steven hadnât let go of Hannah.
Hannah said, âYou two carry on, Iâll go see whatâs up.â
In the video call, only two remained.
Rosie said, âNelly, after Christmas, Iâll visit you in the Capital.â
Cornelia replied, âSounds good.â
After a brief pause, Rosie continued, âNelly, thereâs something Iâve known for a while, but Iâve been debating whether or not to tell you.â
Cornelia said, âSpeak your mind.â
Rosie asked, âHave you heard about President Hartleyâs incidents?â
Cornelia replied, âWhich incident are you referring to?â
Rosie said, âAfter the Hartley Group suddenly went bankrupt, rumors about Marcusâs death and his identity disappearing started to circulate. I -didnât believe it at first, until I saw some documents from Lucas confirming that Marcusâs identity had indeed vanished. Thereâs no Marcus in this
world anymore.â
Corneliaâs grip on her cup tightened, but her face remained calm, âI see.â
Rosie was about to say something when Hannah returned, âNelly, Rosie, heâs really at my house. I tried to shoo him away but he wonât leave. Has he lost his marbles?â
Rosie asked, âDid he say why heâs here?â
Hannah replied, âHeâs playing chess with my dad, I havenât asked him yet.â
Cornelia thought for a moment, then asked, âHannah, if he wants to get back together, would you accept?â
Hannah answered, âImpossible, thereâs no way heâd want me back. Heâs so smitten with his girlfriend, that he divorced me the moment she returned. He wouldnât want to reconcile.â
Cornelia said, âI mean hypothetically.â
Hannah shook her head, âIâm not a masochist, nor am I his pet, to be summoned back at his whim. It took me a lot of effort to escape his control, who would want to go back?â
