Chapter 1345
Lately, she had been bombarded with all sorts of nuisance calls, like parenting services and early childhood education and stuff â it was like her personal info had been blasted all over the place.
She figured this might be another one of those calls, so she just hung up on it. In no time, the same number was calling again.
Nuisance callers didnât usually ring twice, so Cornelia picked up, âHello?â
To her surprise, a vaguely familiar female voice came from the other end, âCornelia, itâs me. Can we meet up?â
Despite not being on good terms with Courtney, Cornelia responded politely since the woman was being courteous, âWhatâs up?â
Courtney responded with the same politeness, âIâve done some things to you in the past that Iâm not proud of and Iâd like to apologize in person. Iâm at a café just outside the north gate of your villa right now, can you come over?â
Cornelia checked the time. Almost 8 PM., still snowing outside, not really the best time to head out. âLet bygones be bygones.â Cornelia said.
Youâre gracious for thinking itâs no biggie.â Courtney said, âBut I canât shake this guilt unless I apologize to you in person.â
âI accept your apology. Letâs leave it at that. Gotta hang up now.â Cornelia said.
âCornelia.â Courtney hurriedly said, âIf youâre not willing to let me apologize in person, can we at least talk about Marc?â
Upon hearing Marcusâ name, Cornelia felt even less inclined to meet, âMrs. Kamp, you might not be aware, but your son and I are divorced now. His issues have nothing to do with me.â
âSo youâre refusing to meet me no matter what?â Courtney asked.
Cornelia could tell Courtneyâs tone had changed, but she remained polite, âI donât see the point in meeting.â
âIâll send you my location and give you ten minutes.â Courtney said, âYou must show up.â
Courtneyâs condescending attitude and commanding tone irked Cornelia, so she decided to drop the politeness, âWho do you think you are? Just because you want to see me, I have to come?â
Courtney lost her cool at Corneliaâs words, âDo you know why people canât stand you?â
âWell, I donât need you to point it out to me.â Cornelia said.
âStill as sharpâtongued as ever, no wonder Marc dumped you. If you donât change your attitude, whoâd want to marry you?â Courtneyâs every word was an attack, her tone bitter and venomous.
Back in the day, Cornelia might have been hurt by her words. But the Cornelia of today had seen things clearer. Nice people tend to get pushed around â there was wisdom in the old saying.
She didnât need to take those words from people she didnât care about to heart.
She said with a laugh, âWho are you to be lecturing me? Also, itâs not your son who dumped me, but the other way around. Plus, there are plenty of men. whoâd marry me. Whenever Iâm ready, I can tie the knot.â
âCornelia, I donât know how you won over the Duran family.â Courtney said, âBut donât think you can do whatever you want just because you have their support. Youâve got ten minutes to show up or else youâll bear the consequences.â
âSure, keep waiting then.â Cornelia said.
Just as Cornelia was about to hang up, Courtneyâs voice blared from the phone, âYou bitch, where the hell did you hide Marc? I canât reach him or find him anywhere.â
Courtney always came off as a cultured woman who stayed calm under any circumstances. But now, her shrill voice was grating on the nerves, making her sound like a complete shrew.
