Chapter 1493
Ever since she was a kid, Pandora had schooled Hannah not to just accept gifts from others willy-nilly. These guys werenât exactly her buddies, so sheâd definitely refuse. She said, âI appreciate the thought, but you can take all this stuff back home. My old man has already bought a ton of supplements for me, enough to last me a lifetime.â
Kate piped up, âAre those store-bought supplements as good as our homegrown chicken? City folks are dying to get their hands on our chickens, but they canât. Just take it, will ya?â
Hannah shot back, âReally, thereâs no need!â
But no one took her seriously. They just dumped their gifts, in her yard and told her, âJust take it, will ya? Weâre all part of the Ableson clan. Weâre family.â
Hannah responded, âKate, really, thereâs no need.â She was alone against a tidal wave of their enthusiasm.

Suddenly, a voice cut through, âWhat the hell are you guys doing?â
It was the village chief. He was one of the guys responsible for hosting Steven today.e2
They were showing Steven around the area and hadnât planned on stopping by the old Ableson place, but Steven decided on a whim to drop by. As soon as they arrived, they found a crowd gathered in Hannahâs front yard. Worried about the impression this would leave on Steven, they said, âIf youâve got nothing to do, go home. Stop loafing around.â
Steven noticed the things in their hands his eyebrows furrowing. He commented, âThey probably know who I am and are trying to bribe me, huh?â
The village chief was taken aback. âPresident Dixon, we havenât revealed your identity. How could this be? Please donât overthink it.â
Steven chuckled. âI know you didnât. Because I met most folks here yesterday.â
The village chief asked, âYouâve met them?â
Steven replied, âYou probably donât know. This place belonged to my father-in-law. My wife came home for a rest recently, and I came with her, looking for a project to invest in to spend some time.â
Hearing this, the village chief was shocked because he heard Steven talking about looking for an investment like itâs some entertainment. This was truly a rich manâs world, something ordinary folks probably couldnât understand.
The village chief quickly gestured to his secretary to get things arranged, then said to Steven, âTurns out the Ableson family brought such a huge investment. If our folks in Higgins Village live a better life in the future, we must thank the Ableson family.â
Steven just smiled, not saying a word. He, indeed, was here to invest because of Hannah. But that wasnât the only reason.
He saw the rich tourism resources here, but due to its remote location and poor transportation, not many people knew about this place. After his investment, heâd first fix the roads, then send professionals to develop the tourism resources, and then heavily advertise. Soon, this place could become a famous tourist spot. The village chief then said, âPresident Dixon, I see Ms. Hannah is in the yard. Do you want to say hi?â
Steven said, âYou guys get rid of these gifts first. No more sending stuff to bother my wife.â
The chief replied, âAlright.â
The secretary stepped forward, and with a few words, got those who were unwilling to leave to go. Their gifts were not delivered, and everyone was uneasy, fearing Steven would give them trouble.
Some people left reluctantly, looking back at every step. They hoped Steven would be more forgiving, but no one dared to speak up.
The villagers dispersed, and the noise ceased. Hannah finally noticed Steven not far away. She only glanced at him, then shifted her gaze, preparing to close the yard gate.
