Chapter 153
Steven called out, Iâm just out here in the corridor, who are you on the phone with?â
Then he pushed the door open and walked in, âZavierâs wife hasnt recovered yet,, and now your wife is sick too?â
Marcus asked, âWhat brings you guys down the mountain too?â
Steven rolled his eyes. âYou canât bear to leave your blind date wife, let alone Zavier leaving Skyler behind. Heâs probably hugging a sleeping Skyler and bawling his eyes outâ
Marcus asked, âHow about the person Iâm looking for?â
Steven replied, âHeâs overseas at a psychology conference, wonât be back until around the 10th Get his travel expenses ready, and Fill have him fly straight to Riverton when heâs done.â
Marcus simply responded, âAlrightâ
Stevenâs gaze shifted to Cornelia, nestled in Marcusâs arms.
Marcus quickly covered Cornelia with his jacket. âAre you asking for a poke in the cye?â
Steven smirked, âSee how nervous you are. Iâve got a wife, Iâm not eyeing yours. But I didnât think in my life, I would be able to see you nervous about a woman.â
Marcus, with a stern tone, shot back, âGet out.â
But instead of leaving. Steven took a seat on the couch, âMarc, tell me, is being married better than being single?
Marcus remained silent.
Is being married better than being single?
Perhaps no!!
When youâre single, you only look out for yourself, never having to worry about any woman.
But since being married, every move Cornelia makes seems to tug at his heartstrings, his mind no longer fully under his own control.
Having his emotions controlled by someone else is a major noâno for the boss of the Hartley Group. Itâs something that should never happen to him, Marcus. Yet, here it is happening.
Itâs not a pleasant experience, but as a man, he has to step up to the responsibility of taking care of and protecting her
Steven asked, âWhatâs with the furrowed brow?â
Before Marcus could respond, Cornelia shifted slightly in his arms, he immediately covered her ears, âSteven, quit yapping, sheâs trying to sleep. Beat it!â
Steven didnât need a verbal answer from Marcus; he already got the response he was seeking. Shaking his head, he chuckled, âKeep playing it cool, mate. Iâd love to see how long you can keep it up.â
He wouldnât want to end up like Zavier. That he would definitely make fine of him
Just as Steven left, Corneliaâs phone started vibrating in her bag. Not wanting to disturb her, Marcus quickly pulled it out, intending to hang up the call.
But when he saw the incoming video call was from âGrannyâ, Marcus had to answer it for Cornelia, to prevent the old woman from thinking wildly.
Once the call was connected, Granny Rebecca asked anxiously, âNelly, are you okay?â
Just as he thought, Granny Rebecca became suspicious because of Marcusâs phone call, so she called Cornelia to make sure everything was fine.
Marcus replied, âGranny, itâs me. Nelly was exhausted last night and sheâs still asleep.â
Marcus was halfâlying down with Cornelia in his arms, and the camera captured Corneliaâs face snuggled against his strong chest.
This view looked more and more ambigoust
