Chapter 1538
He had a knack for managing his own study schedule, with absolutely no need for any intervention from his family or tutors.
âGo on with your game, Farley.â Hannah told him, âIâm going to take a stroll.â
âAlright, just be careful. Donât wander too far. Once the road opens up, weâd have to leave.â Farley said.
Hannah responded with a guilty nod, quietly pocketing a pack of beef jerky and slipping on her sunglasses. She then stepped out of the vehicle, posing a brief walk around the area before finally approaching Stevenâs car. âYou helped me out earlier, so consider this beef jerky a token of my gratitude.â She told him, offering the pack.
Steven declined, âCan I choose my own thank you gift?â
âWhat do you want?â Hannah asked.
He patted the seat next to him, âSit with me. Letâs chat.âe2
Hannah hesitated for a moment before sitting down, âWhat do you want to talk about?â
Before Steven could respond, a call came in on his phone. The screen displayed the name, âZavier Riveraâ.
âIâll need to take this.â He told her, reaching for his phone.
âIâll give you some privacy.â Hannah said, rising from her seat.
âNo need.â Steven pulled her back, his arm naturally finding its way around her waist. His other hand swiped the screen to answer the call, âZavier, whatâs up?â
Zavierâs voice came through the phone, his usual cockiness tinged with a hint of resignation, âArenât you in Harbor City?â
âNo, Iâm not.â Steven replied.
âYouâre in Haines to see your ex-wife?â Zavier guessed.
The phone wasnât on speaker, so Hannah couldnât hear the conversation. Still, Steven instinctively glanced at her before responding, âYes.â
Zavier continued, âMarc now has not only a wife, but also a son. Lucas and his wife are as in love as ever. Youâre divorced, yet you have the audacity to go. see your ex. Regardless of whether she wants to see you or not, at least you can see her and know sheâs alive. But meâ¦â
Zavier let out a chuckle, âI donât even know whether my wife is dead or alive.â
âLast time you said she was alive.â Steven pointed out.
âThatâs the old saying, âSeeing is believingâ. If sheâs alive, why canât I find any trace of her?â Zavier countered.
âSteven.â Zavier went on, âEvery year before Christmas, the four of us used to meet up. We didnât last year due to certain circumstances. Letâs do it this year.â
âI have no objections. You can pick a place.â Steven agreed.
âMarc has a family to take care of, so itâs not convenient for him to travel. Letâs meet in Riverton. Iâll call Lucas later.â Zavier suggested.
âSounds good.â Steven said.
âSee you!â Zavier said.
âZavier. Steven asked.
âWhat else?â Zavier said.
âI didnât understand your feelings before, but I do now. Regardless, I hope you find her and clarify everything face to face.â Steven said.
Zavier didnât respond. He just laughed dryly and ended the call.
Steven put away his phone and turned to Hannah. She was being extraordinarily compliant that day. He held her close, and she didnât move or try to escape. âSo, Hannah, are you willing to give me a chance?â Steven asked.
