Chapter 1552
In her heart, Cornelia understood the worries that plagued Jeremy, for he was a child whom his parents had abandoned. The shadows of his childhood clung to him like an unwelcome ghost, and it seemed a lifetime was needed to heal those deep wounds. Even though Jeremy had grown to be a strong man, those childhood shadows still haunted him, nagging at his conscience.
Cornelia snuggled into his arms, rubbing her head against his chest. âHoney, do you have any idea how I survived those months we were apart?â
Jeremy, âIâm sorryâ¦â
Cornelia raised her hand, gently pressing his lips. âNo apologies!â
Jeremy, âButâ¦â
Cornelia cut him off, âJust listen. Yes, youâre right, I can earn my own money. If I hadnât met you, I could have lived a good life on my own. However, I did meet you, and youâve carved a permanent place in my heart. Without you, it would be like gouging a hole in my very heart. Do you understand what Iâm saying?â
Jeremy, âCorneliaâ¦âe2
Cornelia, âI canât live without you. Our little Hope canât live without his dad. Weâre a family, and weâre not complete without each other. Do you understand?â Jeremy smiled gently. âSometimes Iâm afraid that all of this is just a dream, that when I wake up, Iâll still be locked in a cramped, dark room, and you and Hope will be gone.â
Cornelia tightly held his hand, pressing it against her face. âFeel me, Iâm not a figment of your imagination. Iâm right here, alive and well.â
Jeremy, âYes. I feel you.â
Cornelia, âI love you! I love you so much.â
The love he never received in the past, she would give him double now. She wanted him to know, she loved him very much.
Knock, knock, knockâ¦
Patricia came knocking. âMarc, Nelly, that woman called again. She said if you donât meet herâ¦â. The words of Courtney were so vicious that Patricia was infuriated. She couldnât bear to tell Cornelia and Jeremy.
Cornelia looked at Jeremy. âDo you want to meet her?â
Jeremy, âWhat about you?â
Cornelia smiled. âSheâs connected to me because of you. Whether we meet her or not is up to you. Honey, I know you donât want to see her, but if we donât, sheâll keep bothering you. We might as well meet her, clear things up, and put an end to this.â
Jeremy had the same thought. âPatricia, tell Ben to arrange the meeting.â
Patricia, âYes.â
Cornelia, âPatricia, is Hope awake?â
Upon mentioning Hope, Patriciaâs face instantly brightened. âYes, he is. Granny Luisa is playing with him. Hope is so clever, he can already call her âgranny.â Patricia was an elder, so naturally, the child would call her âgranny.â As for the childâs biological grandmother, she didnât deserve to be called âgranny.â This morning, Courtney called early to threaten Marc to meet her. She even cursed that his child would not grow up if he didnât visit her.
Patricia was so angry she could barely breathe. She couldnât bear to tell Jeremy, Cornelia, and Granny. If they knew, they would be even angrier.
Cornelia, âOkay, Iâll get up and freshen up, then join him for breakfast.â
Patricia, âWe already fed him. Weâll take good care of him. You guys go do your work.â
Jeremy, âI have to go to the office today, and Iâll take him with me.â
Patricia, who adored the child, said, âMarc, why donât you leave Hope at home? Granny Luisa and I can watch him. Heâs such a well-behaved child, and he doesnât cry much.â
