Chapter 16
She usually didnât carry her personal phone during work hours, and only put it in her pocket because it was almost time to leave. Why did it have to ring now?
Cornelia was so nervous she could hardly breathe. She sneakily took out her phone and turned off the sound.
But by accident, she saw the message was from her husband who had disappeared after they got married!
However, Cornelia didnât dare to look closely, she just turned off the screen and stood quietly.
Luckily, Marcus didnât make things difficult for her. âYou guys can leave now.â
Cornelia and Ben replied, âYes,â and escaped the CEOâs office at lightning speed.
Because Marcus had delayed her, Cornelia didnât have time to check her personal phone and rushed straight to the airport.
Zack and Abigail took her luggage and went to the airport to handle the baggage checkâin.
When she finally arrived, they hurriedly went through security together. They only had a few minutes left before boarding.
Zack complained, âIn the past month, how many days havenât you worked overtime? Your boss is such a jerk!â
After todayâs events, Cornelia had become Marcusâs most loyal subordinate. She wouldnât let anyone badmouth her boss. âDonât talk about my boss like that, heâs the best boss in the world.â
âWowâ¦â Abigail clicked her tongue a few times. âNelly, youâre suddenly defending President Hartley so much. Is there some story between you two?â
Hearing this, Zack joined Abigail, and they both sniffed around Cornelia like little dogs.
Cornelia shrank back, âAbby, Zack, what are you guys doing?â
Abigail said, âWeâre checking if you have any menâs scent on you.â
Zack added, âNo menâs scent, just a smell of medicine.â
Thatâs when they noticed Corneliaâs burn.
Abigail immediately put away her playful expression and asked seriously. âWhat happened to your burn? Did someone bully you?â
Zack was even angrier, âWhoâs the bastard that bullied you? Iâll kill him!â
Cornelia was touched by their worry. She smiled, saying, âNo need for help, Iâve already sent him to the police.â
Since theyâd keep asking, Cornelia told them everything that happened today.
After listening, they both gained a bit of goodwill for her jerk boss.
Instead of comforting her, they each held one of her hands to support her in their own way.
âSweetie, youâve got a new text messageâ¦â
Corneliaâs phone reminded her of another new message, so she took it out.
There were over a dozen missed calls from unknown numbers.
And two unread messages.
The first one was sent over half an hour ago: âIâm Jeremy, the man you registered to marry a year ago. Come out and meet me. We need to talk about getting a divorce!â
