Chapter 1668
Dustin, lacking any sense of subtlety, blurted out, âZavier, I thought you werenât keen on that Blue family girl? Why are you holding onto her like sheâs your teddy bear?â
Jillian eyed Skyler, who was nestled in Zavierâs embrace, with a hint of displeasure in her voice, âSilly boy, you still donât get it? Looks like your granddad will be bouncing a great-grandkid on his knee any day now.â
Skyler was at a loss for words. There was no point in explaining. No need to justify herself to these people.
Zavier greeted cheerfully, âGood morning, guys. Skyler and I have morning classes, so we wonât be joining you for breakfast. Weâve got to run.â
With that, he didnât wait for their approval and whisked Skyler away.
Zavier was a rule-breaker, and nobody could really tell him what to do. So naturally, the chatter about Skyler resumed.
Jillian scoffed, âThey say the Blue family is high society. But what kind of high society girl doesnât even greet her elders?âe2
Matthew chimed in, âNot every child of a prestigious family is going to have impeccable manners.â
The gossip grew wilder with each passing remark until Hudson appeared, and the groupâs murmurs faded.
Once they were outside and away from prying eyes, Skyler finally felt uncomfortable, âZavier, you can let go of me now.â
Zavier stopped in his tracks but his arm remained snug around her waist, âWhatâs the matter? Afraid Iâll take a bite out of you?â
His presence was overwhelming, and Skyler instinctively shrank back, âNobodyâs watching us anymore. You donât have to keep up this
act.â
Zavier released Skyler, âYou may be timid as a mouse, but at least youâre not foolish enough to think Iâm protecting you because Iâm fond of you or anything.â
Skyler knew her place.
Zavier prodded, âCat got your tongue? Whatâs the mouth for if not for talking?â
Skyler retorted, âBesides talking, I can eat with it.â
Saying more often led to more troubles, and Skyler learned this lesson at a very young age. Therefore, right now, she tried to speak less and avoided arguing whenever possible.
Zavier studied her lips, which moved silently before him, plump and rosy like ripe peaches, utterly enticing.
Peaches were sweet, but were her lips just as sweet? Realizing his thoughts were straying, Zavier almost wanted to slap himself for having such improper ideas about a young girl. He grumbled, âIâve never seen you eat much either. Look at you, skin and bones. Eat more, or else the Blue family will think weâre mistreating you at the Rivera house.â
Skyler murmured under her breath, âThey couldnât care less.â
Nobody was concerned about whether she went hungry. They were only interested in what advantages she could bring them from her association with the Rivera family.
Zavier didnât catch her words, âWhat was that?â
Skyler glanced at her wristwatch, âIâm about to be late. Can you drop me off outside the estate, maybe at the nearest subway station?â
Zavier raised an eyebrow, âWell, arenât you getting bold.â
