Chapter 1695
Zavier replied curtly, âIâm tied up.â
The seasoned butlerâs expression was grave as he spoke, âMiss Skylerâs waitressing gig at the café has come to the attention of Mr. Hudson. If we donât nip this in the bud, the consequences could be dire.â
A chill swept over Zavierâs features. âWho told you Skylerâs been moonlighting at a café?â
The butler hesitated, âMr. Hudson just received some photographs. As for who sent them, he didnât say, so Iâm in the dark there.â
Zavier hung up the call and shot a frosty glare at the man opposite him, âYouâve grown bold, havenât you? Betraying me to my face?â
The man responded, âZavier, Iâm doing this for your own good, and for Skylerâs. If I donât intervene now, the whole affair of Skyler working outside could be twisted and eventually reach Mr. Hudson, and then both of you could be in a world of trouble.â
Zavier understood all too well, but he didnât believe there was anything shameful about Skyler holding down a job, âSkylerâ¦âe2
Before he could finish, Skyler approached quickly, âSir, what can I do for you?â
Zavier commanded, âGet out of that uniform and come back to Riveraâs Manor with me.â
Skyler was puzzled, âTo Riveraâs Manor right now? What happened?â
Zavier revealed the issue at hand, âHudson knows about your café job.â
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Skyler quickly changed clothes, excused herself to her supervisor, and left with Zavier.
Seated in the Rivera familyâs car, Skyler was restless. Sensing her discomfort, Zavier reassured her, âYou were working a decent job, and thereâs nothing to worry about.â
Skyler was less optimistic, âSince the Rivera family hasnât disclosed my identity publicly and there are no photos of me online, I thought my partâtime job wouldnât tarnish the Rivera nameâ¦.
Zavier cut her off, âSpare me the explanationâ
Skyler bit her lower lip anxiously, drawing blood, but she kept biting.
Zavier tugged at her gently, âSilence is even less helpful.â
Skyler posed the question that was eating at her, âHow did Hudson find out I was working at the café?â
Zavier admitted, âThe man with us earlier spilled the beans.â
Skyler fell silent.
Zavier clarified, âIt wasnât my doing.â
Skyler responded softly, âI didnât say it was you.â
Zavier probed further, âAre you that short on cash?â
Skyler admitted, âYes.â
Zavier explained, âIn the past, when your parents didnât give you money, you had no recourse, but now, itâs different.â Skyler was curious, âHow so?â
Zavier revealed, âBecause youâre my fiancée.â
Skyler chuckled, âAnd what does that change?â
Zavier proposed, âWith that status, you could get things from the Blue family that were previously out of reach.â Skyler refused, âI donât want their things.â
Zavier laughed at her stubbornness, âSkyler, Iâd love to crack open your head and see just how your brain works.â
Skyler retorted, âYou donât need to keep belittling me. I know Iâm not that capable.â
Zavier argued, âWhat do you mean you donât want their things? They sent you to the Capital to cement an alliance with the Rivera family, and do you have any idea how much theyâve gained?â
Skyler shook her head, âNo clue.â
Zavier explained, âThe moment the union between the Blue and Rivera families was announced, your Blues secured several major contracts theyâd previously only dreamt of. Those contracts are as good as gold. If they manage them well, those projects alone could dominate the Southern Port region and elevate the Blue family to new heights.â
