Chapter 392
âHe said his wife gets to call the shots on whether to have kids or not, and no one can force her. There are still quite a few average Joes out there who insist on having a son, as if thereâs a royal throne waiting to be inherited at home. Now, look at the president of the Hartley Group. His family really does have a ton of wealth to be inherited, but what he cares about the most is his wifeâs wishes.â
âSuch a rich, goodâlooking, and faithful man is almost impossible to find these days. His wife must have done something really good in her past life to marry him.â Replied Abigail.
âSo, you can stop dreaming.â
âBut a good man like him is exactly the kind I should hope for.â
Zack was speechless.
Abigail replied, âZack, if you have something to say, spit it out. Donât beat around the bush.â
âI told you, Marcus is not a good guy, but none of you listened.â Zack said.
âAlright, letâs not gossip about others. Letâs talk about you two. How are things going?â
As soon as Cornelia brought up their situation, Abigail started to get nervous and started to give the game away. âWeâre doing great, just like every other year. Weâve been eating and drinking like kings at home. I bet Iâve gained a few pounds; you better not make fun of me.â Watching Abigailâs shifty eyes and stuttering words in the video chat, Cornelia confirmed her earlier suspicion. Something had definitely gone down tonight.
They were trying so hard to hide it from her, so it must have something to do with her.
She was not in Rosenberg now. The only thing that could involve her would be that old business from a few years ago. Even after all these years, it was still the talk of the town, and they never had anything nice to say about her.
Cornelia used to care about what people said about her, but not anymore. Their opinions didnât matter to her.
Cornelia thought for a moment and said, âAbby, Zack, if people back home are still talking about me, just ignore them. Those rumors canât hurt me anymore.â
Abigail felt even more indignant for her after hearing this, âItâs one thing that they donât hurt you, but itâs not your fault at all. Who are those gossipmongers to judge you? Who do they think they are?â
Cornelia really doesnât care anymore, âWe canât control what others say, so why let it bother us? We should focus on our work, make money, and live our own lives.â
âHas Jeremy been in touch with you recently?â
Cornelia felt warm inside at the mention of Jeremyâs name, âJeremy gave me money tonight. He even transferred all the money heâs made this year to my account. He said itâs to help me with the renovation, but actually, he just wants me to manage his money.â
âReally?â Asked Abigail.
EN
âOf course itâs true. Although Jeremy and I keep missing each other, we havenât been able to meet because of work, I can feel that he sincerely wants to share his life with me.â
Zack said, âNelly, donât jump the gun on anything. Donât invest too much before you actually meet Jeremy. I think you should arrange to meet him when you get back, tell him about your past, and see how he reacts before deciding whether to live with him.â
Abigail and Zack were over the moon about Corneliaâs happiness, but they had their own worries. They were concemed that the deeper Corneliaâs trust in Jeremy, the greater the hurt if Jeremy chose to leave because of her past incident.
