Chapter 414
He was her lawful husband, but she didnât dig him. She was actually kinda scared of him.
The discovery pissed Marcus off, but mostly, he just felt helpless. What on earth could he do to make her like him, even just a tiny bit?
The way he looked at her freaked her out, like he was about to eat her alive. Cornelia was on the verge of tears, âWhat can I do to make you trust me? If you donât trust me, I can swear to God. I donât have any inappropriate thoughts about you.â
Before Cornelia could finish her vow, Marcus coldly cut her off, âDid I say I donât trust you? Donât swear willyânilly.â
If he did trust her, why was he still giving her those fierce looks? For a moment, she really thought he might eat her alive.
Her fearful gaze was like a needle piercing his heart, a feeling he had never experienced before. Marcus averted his eyes, looking out the window again. The crescent moon was obscured by dark clouds, mirroring his mood, âYou should rest.â
Comelia wanted to leave at once, but she was so scared her legs had turned to jelly and she couldnât stand up.
She anxiously asked herself, what should she do? If she didnât get out of there, he might get angry again and she could be in real danger.
Marcus was looking out the window, but out of the corner of his eye, he kept an eye on Cornelia. Seeing she hadnât left immediately, he thought she might want to stay with him a while longer.
This assumption eased Marcusâs mood, âIf you donât want to leave, you can stay with me a bit longer.â
Cornelia was dumbstruck. It wasnât that she didnât want to leave, but she was too scared to move. But since he had misunderstood, what could she say? If she said she was too frightened to move, he might get angry.
They sat in silence for a long time before Marcus spoke again, âCornelia, letâs talk about Jeremy.â
Cornelia didnât want to discuss her personal matters with Marcus, âPresident Hartley, letâs talk about something else.â
Marcus asked, âDonât you want to talk about your husband?â
Cornelia hesitated, âWhat do you want to talk about him?â
Marcus said, âJust tell me your opinion of him.â
Cornelia replied, âJeremy is a good person.â
Marcus asked, âCan you elaborate on how heâs good?â
