Chapter 437
Marcus was just her boss. Looking out for her wasnât really his duties. Cornelia got that and quickly adjusted her mindset, âAlright.â
Abigail, an internet junkie, had also seen the news. As soon as she got out of the car, she ran over to Cornelia, âCornelia, this is big news! Somebody snapped a pic of you with President Hartley and mistook you for his wife.â
Comelia chuckled, âWe already know.â
Abigail continued, âThe views on this news are skyrocketing. In no time, a ton of people will see it. If this keeps up, a lot of people might think youâre really his wife. Isnât your companyâs PR department going to do something about it?â
Leonardo chimed in from the side, âWhen have you ever seen any paparazzi shols of Marc? If he doesnât want people to snap his picture, no one can. Even if they do, it wouldnât get published, let alone cause such a stir online.â
Abigail looked confused, âWhat do you mean?â
Zack, being a guy, understood Leonardoâs point completely, âPresident Hartley, are you using Cornelia as a smokescreen? We get that you love your wife and want to protect her from public exposure, but why should Nelly bear the brunt of it all? We want to protect our Nelly too.â
Comelia quickly pulled Zack aside, âZack, Iâm President Hartleyâs assistant, itâs part of my job. Plus, the photo didnât show my face, who would know it was me?â
âThe internet might not know itâs you, but anyone who knows you could easily recognize you from the back. Zack was getting really worked up, his care and concern for Cornelia made it hard for him to accept how she was being treated.
Marcus was taken aback. He finally understood why Cornelia looked so troubled.
His aim was to publicly declare Corneliaâs identity as Mrs. Hartley, but he overlooked the fact that Cornelia herself wasnât aware of her status. In this case, Cornelia would definitely think he was taking advantage of her, and she would surely be upset.
Marcus tried to stop Cornelia to explain, but she cut him off, âIâm sorry to have caused you trouble again. But donât worry, Iâll make sure my friends keep their mouths shut.â
She didnât even look at him. After saying her piece, she walked away with Zack to have a private chat.
Marcus couldnât hear what they were saying, but he saw Zackâs mood lighten up after Corneliaâs talk and the look he gave Marcus was somewhat triumphant.
Leonardo tried to lighten the tense atmosphere, âMan, my stomach is growling. Can we get something to eat?â
Cornelia agreed, âIâm also starving.â
With that, they all headed off to grab some grub.
