Chapter 777
When Cornelia heard this, she felt like a ton of bricks had just hit her. âMan, Iâve really screwed up. Granny hinted at it so many times, and I just thought she was in a rush for us to have kids. I never considered that she was so desperate for us to have a baby because she was worried about leaving me alone and not being able to get by after sheâs gone.â
Marcus said, âBetter late than never, right? Iâll give you a few days off. Spend some quality time with Grannyâ
Cornelia asked, âSo, should I be thanking President Hartley?â
Marcus said, âCut the crap, go to Granny.â
âAlright.â Cornelia turned to leave, took a couple of steps, then turned back and said, âDonât tell Granny about the poisoning, alright? Sheâs old, she canât take the shock. Iâm afraid it might scare her.â
Marcus said, âMaybe she is tougher than you think.â
Cornelia asked. âDid you tell her?â
Marcus asked, âDo you think I would do that?â
âWho knows?â After Cornelia finished speaking, she turned to leave, but Marcus pulled her back.
He looked at her, his face serious. âCornelia, thereâs something I need to tell you.â
She looked at him, her eyes sparkled âWhat is it?â
Marcus was silent for a few seconds, as if he had made a major decision, then slowly said, âI want to take care of you, not just because youâre my wife.â
Cornelia seemed to understand what he meant, but wasnât sure, so she wanted to confirm. âWhat do you mean?â
Marcus didnât say anything. âGo on, Granny is waiting for you.â
âIâm not going anywhere until you finish your sentence.â Cornelia hated it when people didnât finish their sentences; she insisted he made his point clear.
Marcus said. âI think⦠I might be into youâ
She didnât expect him to say anything, let alone confess his feelings. Cornelia regretted pushing him. âWell, got it.â
Then, she ran off.
He confessed, she just said âWell, got it, and then left him there.
Did she want him to like her or not?
When she bolted into Grannyâs ward, Corneliaâs heart was still pounding
Granny Rebecca noticed her flushed face, and asked with concern, âNelly, why are your eyes red and your face so flushed?â
Cornelia panicked, âThe wind was strong and I got some sand in my eyes. I wasnât cryingâ
Granny Rebecca chuckled, âYouâre married now, but youâre still like a little girl, denying your tears.â
Cornelia sat next to Granny Rebecca, âWho says being married means I have to change?â
Granny Rebecca said, âTrue, as long as Nelly is happy, nothing else matters.â
Cornelia said, âGranny, itâs still early. Let me sleep with you for a while.â
Granny Rebecca said, âOkayâ
With Grannyâs permission, Cornelia climbed onto the bed, lay next to Granny, and held her tightly.
At that moment, as she smelled her grandmotherâs scent, Corneliaâs anxious heart finally found tranquility. âGranny, I love you so, so much. I canât live without youâ¦
She was terrified of not being able to hold Granny like this anymore, terrified of not hearing Grannyâs voice again, terrified of the future where Granny would only exist in her memories
âI love my Nelly too!â Granny stroked Corneliaâs head gently, humming a lullaby to lull her to sleep, just like when she was a child.
