Chapter 778
After her fatherâs death, Cornella couldnât sleep at night. Even when she did manage to doze off, nightmares would jolt her awake. Only when she was nestled in her grandmaâs arms, listening to her lullabies, could she get a bit more sleep.
âGrandmaâ¦â
âMhm?â
âGrandmaâ¦â
âNelly, Iâm hereâ¦â Granny Rebecca knew what Cornelia was getting at. Every time she called out, Granny Rebecca would answer, doing everything she
could to soothe her.
âGrandma, letâs go to sleep.
âAlright, letâs sleepâ
Perhaps because she felt at ease, it didnât take long before Cornelia fell asleep.
Granny Rebecca looked at her resting face, lightly stroking it. âSilly girl, so many years have passed and you havenât changed a bit. When youâre scared, you still want to sleep with grandma.â
Granny Rebecca shifted slightly due to an uncomfortable sitting position, and this movement made Cornelia suddenly open her eyes and mumble,
âGrandmaâ¦â
âGrandmaâs here, Nelly dear. Go back to sleep.â
âGrandma, you canât leave me alone, pleaseâ¦â In her dream, Cornelia was still murmuring, clutching tightly onto her grandmaâs clothes, scared that she would leave her.
âSilly girl Granny Rebecca sighed.
Maybe it was her grandmaâs scent, or the comfort of her embrace, but Cornelia slept deeply this time, only waking up in the afternoon. She opened her eyes to two huge faces in front of her, which made her jolt upright. âGrandma, Patricia, what are you guys doing here?â
Granny Luisa said, âThis is the first time Iâve seen our Nelly sleeping. Sheâs even pretty when she sleeps.â
Patricia chimed in, âTrue that. Some people look pretty when theyâre awake but turn into a mess when theyâre asleep. But our Nelly is beautiful even in sleep.â
Granny Luisa continued, âEspecially those eyelashes of Nellyâs, theyâre like little fans. And that face, so soft and rosy, I just want to pinch itâ¦.â¦â¦..
Cornelia didnât know whether to be angry or happy. âGranny, Patricia..
Granny Rebecca scolded, âLuisa, enough with the teasing. Youâre making the poor kid blushâ
âIâm not blushing. Iâm scared! Imagine waking up to a bunch of faces hovering over you. Isnât that creepy?â Cornelia argued.
Granny Luisa thought for a moment, I suppose that could be a bit startling.â
Patricia agreed, âGranny Luisa, we shouldnât do this anymore. We canât scare Nelly. If we give her a heart attack, Marc will have our hides.â
At the mention of Marcus, Cornelia looked around. Not seeing him made her feel a bit disappointed. He had confessed his feelings, but now he was nowhere to be found. It would make sense if it was a workday, but it was Sunday and she knew he didnât have any plans.
âNelly, are you looking for Marc?â Granny Luisa was quick to notice. âMarc has some things to handle. Heâll come to see you after heâs done.â
Iâm not looking for him. With you and Patricia here, how could I possibly have time to look for him?â Cornelia retorted.
âAlright then, letâs not talk about him. Patricia and the others have prepared a lot of delicious food. Get up, freshen up, and letâs have a meal together.â Granny Luisa suggested.
Cornelia checked the time. It was already close to two in the afternoon. âGrandma, havenât you guys eaten yet? Are you waiting for me? You donât have to Go ahead, donât starve yourselves.â
âWe wouldnât be so foolish If we were hungry, we would have eaten. Weâre not waiting for you specifically. We just had a late breakfast, so we arenât hungry yet. Thatâs why weâre waiting for you.â Granny Luisa explained.
Cornelia was speechless. Alright, they were all sharp as tacks. She was the only slowpoke here.
