President Hartley was all smiles, his eyes twin k ling behind his silver glasses, a grin that was impossible to hide, like a love-struck teenager. Surprisingly, when the meeting reached a critical point, President Hartley suddenly left, leaving everyone very confused.
Nobody had a clue about what just happened.
Marcusâ secretary Ben immediately jumped in to take the reins, âLetâs keep the ball rolling, folks. Iâll fill in President Hartley about the meeting.â
Even without Marcusâ involvement, the teamâs enthusiasm didnât take a hit. But the point was, it came to a critical point where Marcus was needed to make a decision.
Ben tried calling Marcus, and after numerous attempts, Marcus finally picked up.
Ben breathed a sigh of relief, âPresident Hartley, we need your decision. Is this a good time?â
Marcus, âShoot.â
Ben quickly relayed the meeting details. After listening, Marcus promptly made a decision and then said, âNo need to hang up, Iâll conference call in with you guys.â
Ben, âOkay.â
Just then, a loud bang came from Marcusâ side.
A car accident!
Ben, âPresident Hartley, are you alright?â
Marcus lazily glanced at the car he rear-ended, âIâm cool. Keep the meeting going!â
Ahead, Zack saw the accident in his rear-view mirror, âNelly, I think Marcus just had a fender bender?â
Upon hearing this, Cornelia immediately turned her head to look, indeed seeing two cars collided. The driver of the car in front had already gotten out, but Marcus was nowhere in sight.
Was he hurt?
Cornelia was worried sick, âZack, pull over. I need to get out!â
Zack immediately did as told. Before the car had even fully stopped, Cornelia hurriedly swung open the door and bolted towards the scene of the accident.
He couldnât park here, so Zack had to keep driving to find a parking spot.
After sprinting for a few dozen meters, Cornelia was huffing and puffing when she reached the scene. Once she got close, she saw Marcus sitting safely in his car, engrossed in a phone call, oblivious to her arrival, and hadnât even gotten out of the car.
Marcus was okay. Cornelia finally let out a sigh of reliefâ¦
The driver of the car in front, seeing such an indifferent response from the driver who rear-ended him, was furious and started cursing, âJust because you drive a fancy car, you think you donât have to step out after causing an accident, is that so?â
The guy grew even more irate, and Cornelia quickly intervened, âSir, Iâm really sorry, Iâll handle this.â
âYouâll handle this? Who are you to handle this? Whatâs your relationship with that man?â The man was yelling while turning around, but when he got a clear look at Corneliaâs face, the anger in his eyes instantly vanished, replaced by a discomforting greed.
