Chapter 964
Tahlia answered, âHeâs tight with Cameron and Marc, especially Marc. Most of the time when I see him, heâs with Marc. So he seems kinda hard to approach.â
Suddenly. Tahlia seemed to realize something, âHold on, I gotta start calling Marc, Mr. Hartley. You took me in and let me live at your place, will I mess up your relationship with him?â
Cornelia replied gently, âHe knows I took you in. Heâs really sweet and considerate. I donât have to ask for anything, and he just takes care of it all. Most importantly, despite his high position, he doesnât disrespect people like some men do. He respects my decisions and always listens to my opinions in life. Heâs a really good man, the best Iâve ever met.â
Tahlia asked, âYouâre talking about Mr. Hartley?â
Cornelia replied, âWho else could it be?â
Tahlia said, âHe must really love you.â
Cornelia said, âHeâs just a responsible good man. He married me, so he has to be good to me. Despite saying this, Cornelia felt really warm inside.
Even though she never had a romantic relationship before, Cornelia wasnât a fool. She could tell Marcus loved her. He had said more than once that he liked her. So he must like her, probably even more than she thought.
Tahlia said, âDonât deny it, youâre his wife, and itâs so wonderful that he loves you.â
There were many rumors about Marcus. Some said he was heartless, some said he was ruthless. Many people, including those in the Reese family, felt fear at the mention of his name. Tahlia once witnessed Marcusâ ruthlessness. But in Corneliaâs heart, the man everyone feared was a gentle, considerate, and respectful husband. Tahlia thought, this must be love.
No matter how tough Marcus was outside, he was just an ordinary man in front of his wife.
They walked into the parkâs green path.
Tahlia asked again, âDid you marry him first or become his assistant first? Can you tell me how you guys got married?â
Cornelia answered, âOur grandmothers were friends when they were young. After they each got their own families, they still kept in touch. Before cell phones, they kept in touch through letters
âLater I came to Riverton for college, and our grandmothers secretly planned to pair us up. We both agreed to get married to give them peace of mind. After we got married, Marcus went to the U.S. for a year and had no contact with me. I was so busy with work that I almost forgot about him. During this time I was transferred to the Hartley Groupâs headquarters. After a series of evaluations, I became his assistant the day he returned. But I had no idea that he was actually my husband.â
Tahlia said, âYour story is even more bizarre and exciting than novels and TV shows.â
Cornelia laughed, âIndeed!â
Tahlia said, âCornelia.â
Cornelia asked, âWhatâs up?â
Tahlia asked, âIâve always wanted to marry Marc. Will that cause a rift between us?â
Cornelia said, âAsk yourself, do you really like him? Do you genuinely want to marry him?â
Tahlia answered, âActually, I think I crave freedom more.â She had been reflecting on this. Marrying Marcus wasnât what she truly wanted; it was just something her family kept saying. Hearing it so many times, she just assumed she wouldnât marry anyone but Marcus.
