Chapter 23
Marvel turned to look at him âOh youâre still here?! Sorry dear, come onâ
Carta laughed, she already liked the woman. They passed by a table and heard some teen girls whispered âIsnât that Liam Blake? Oh my God, heâs gorgeous!*
Liam gave Carla a smirk and mouthed See what you almost missed?â
Carla rolled her eyes but couldnât quite decipher what he meant by that.
They finally arrived at an empty table in a corner and Marvel motioned for them to have their seats.
She turned to Liam The usual, right?â
He nodded Yup, and sheâll have the same tooâ
Carla raised her eyebrows quizzically as if to ask how he knew she would like the same food he liked. He gave her a lopsided smile and looked up questioningly when Marvel tapped him lightly by the shoulders.
âWhy donât you let her decide that herself? How do you know she would like the same food? She asked.
He smiled confidently âSheâs my fiancee, isnât she? She will like it, Iâm sureâ
She grinned Whoa! Itâs so nice to be young and in love!â
âYouâre not old, Marvel Youâre young and beautiful. Iâve told you this countless times âLiam said in a firm tone.
Marvel sighed It feels so good to be in love thenâ
*Youâll surely find your perfect match Marvel, youâll meet the love of your life one day, a day sooner âHe said, squeezing her hands.
She smiled wistfully âYou really think so?â
Right then, Carla knew they were more closer than she thought and she saw a new side of Liam which she liked very much.
âI know so, now go get us our meal please. My babygirl here is famished âHe said in a playful tone.
Carla threw him a glare and smiled at Marvel âItâs fine Marvel, take your time pleaseâ
Marvel laughed âNo itâs fine, Iâll go get you your food. We have a lot to talk about anywaysâ She said with a wink in Carlaâs direction and left.
She sighed âWhy did you have to bring up the topic in a restaurant?â
He frownedâ Topic? What topic?â
* Our engagement of course! She exclaimed, exasperated.
âWhatâs wrong with that? Sheâs bound to find out sooner or later, and besides sheâs my friend so I donât understand why you would get so worked up
over it
*Or didnât you tell your friend too? See Carla, enough of this childish stuff, weâre more mature than that He added coolly.
She didnât have any answer to that so she looked away
Marvel came back, accompanied by a waitress who kept throwing seductive glances in Liamâs direction.
*Thanks Angel, you can leave âMarvel finally spoke up when the waitress made no move to leave.
*Okay maâam âAngel replied quietly and turned on her heels with a sad expression on her face.
Liam was right, she enjoyed every bit of the delicious meal but she wouldnât admit it to him.
*So? Do you like it, sweetheart? Itâs tasty, right?â He asked expectantly.
She shrugged âItâs okay but itâs not my favoriteâ
He glowered at her âI donât remember saying it was your favorite, I just said you would like itâ
She nodded âHmn, but how do you know I liked something like this anyway?â
He grinned âInstinct â
*So when is the wedding? âMarvel butted in and Carla choked on her drink. The couple looked at her, surprised that she was still with them.
âNext week âLiam said without batting an eye.
âNext week?! Why?â Marvel exclaimed, looking surprised.
Carla smiled into her cup, hoping Marvel would come to her aid this time and talked sense into Liam
Liam shrugged âNothing, we just wanted to get married quickly
âIs she pregnant?! Marvel blurted out in a hushed whisper.
Carla choked on her drink the second time âWhat?!â
âWhy would you think that, Marvel? She added with a nervous laugh.
Marvel smiled sheepishly âUh⦠Thatâs just the only reasonable thing for you to get married so fast âShe ended her words with a small shrug
Liam smirked âWeâre gonna make one soon, right baby?*
Carla blushed and buried her face into a cup.
Stop Liam! Youâre embarrassing the poor girl! Marvel said, laughing.
âBye Carla! Make sure you come again! Marvel yelled as Liam opened the car door for her.
âSure! Bye!â Carla replied with a wave.
She heaved a sigh of relief and closed her eyes.
âDid you enjoy the meal?â He asked as he drove out of the parking lot.
âYup âShe answered with her eyes glued on the road.
He checked his wristwatch âItâs late, should I take you home now?â
She eyed him âAnd leave my bag in the office? No way
âOh sorry, didnât know your bag is still in the office âHe didnât look sorry though.
She rolled her eyes âComing from the mouth of someone who practically dragged me out of the officeâ
He didnât reply because he knew she just set a trap but he wouldnât take the bait. They got to his company and like a gentleman again, he opened the door for her.
She eyed him suspiciously âIf you think doing this wouldâ¦.â
But Liam cut her off Shut up for once, Carla! You should cultivate the habit of keeping mute for once!â
She rolled her eyes and preceded him to the company. She felt all eyes on her again, some looked at her curiously while some had on a harsh look. What was wrong with them anyway? Just a walk with the boss and they were already staring at her like she committed murder. She wondered what they would think of her when they finally found out she would marry him. Oh my! I canât wait to see the hostile look on their faces, she thought gleefully.
Her phone rang that moment, jolting her out of her reverie. It was Jenny.
âHey baby, whatâs up?â She asked cheerfully but noticed right away that Jenny didnât sound as cheerful.
âIâm coolâ Jenny said but her voice was dull.
Carla frowned Whatâs wrong?â
Jenny sniffed âWhere are you?â
*At work, whatâs wrong Jenny? Carla asked, starting to get worried.
âJust come home quickly, will you?â Jenny said and the line went dead.
She went into the office in a hurry and met Alex sitting lazily on Liamâs chair.
âHi baby, how are you?â He asked in a quite, cheerful voice.
âIâm good, Alex. Iâm sorry, I have to leave right now. Weâll talk later, okay? She said hurriedly and got her bag. She was gone in seconds.
Alex frowned, had something happened between she and Liam? Did they get into a fight? He shrugged and busied himself with his phone.
Carla met Liam on her way but she almost passed by him absentmindedly but he held her back.
âWhoa! Future wife, where are you running off to?â
She looked up, startled âUh? Oh, my friend is sick so I need to go home now*
He shrugged âOkay, itâs late anyway. Should I give you a ride?â
She shook her head âNo Iâll manage, thanksâ
âIâll call you, okay?â He searched her face.
She nodded quickly, wanting to be on her way already. Before she knew what hit her, he had kissed her on the lips..
âTake care, hmmn?â He asked softly.
She nodded, still shocked by the kiss because it was unexpected.
They looked like a real couple from anyone elseâs view.
*Go on now, will you?â He urged.
âOr do you want a deep one?â He asked in a teasing tone.
Her eyes widened and she dashed out.
