Chapter 30
âWhoa honey, I love this guy! He is so charming! Georgia exclaimed excitedly and her voice was so girlish and full of life that made Carla wondered if it was the same woman who laid bedridden few hours ago Carla rolled her eyes inwardly at her motherâs girlish attitude but gave her a sweet smile, if not
too sweet smile
âNow that youâre all better, Iâm going back to Mexico in the morningâ She announced
âWhy?â Georgia shrieked
âBecause obviously thereâs nothing wrong with you, you just missed me thatâs all, and Iâm here now âCarla said and exhaled a tired sigh
âSo stay with me longer, please babyâ Georgia whined and pouted
Carla reached out for her motherâs hands and squeezed them in hers âMom, I have my own life to live too, Iâm getting married to one of the most wonderful guys Iâve ever met in a week and Iâve not prepared a thing for the wedding Instead, Iran here when I heard you were sick and now that youâre all better, I should go live my own life too âCarla took a deep breath and her eyes glistened with unshed tears.
Georgia gazed at daughter sadly âHoney, come on, donât cry, itâs just that I missed you so much that my heart ache, but I couldnât ask you to come for a visit because I know your purpose out there is to make enough money to clear the familyâs debt, thank you so much honey but I think youâve done enough Itâs time you go enjoy your youthful days A tear slid down her cheek and Carla reached out to wipe it off.
Then she pulled Georgia into a warm hug Thank you Mom, I love youâ
Georgia sniffed and smiled wistfully âI love you more honey, I love you so much that you remind me of your fatherâ
âItâs okay Mom, donât cry âCarla said and drew back from the hug
âWhen are you leaving? Georgia said, wiping away the remains of her tears.
Carla shook her head âIâll stay with you for two more days, then Iâll leave for Mexicoâ
Georgiaâs eyes widened in excitement â Thank you baby! Now, we can catch up on old times
âOnly for a few days, Mom âCarla said firmly, snapping her fingers in front of Georgia.
Georgia chuckled wrylyâ Those two days will leave a memory, honeyâ She said in a whisper.
Like Georgia said, the two days passed by quickly with them catching up on old times and making some memories. They did almost everything together. Secretly, both of them wished they were a whole family again, a complete one. Davisâs demise had left a scar none of them could forget. She had the best moments of her life in those days and when it came to an end, she was quite sad, she had spent some good moments of her life with her Mom. Leaving for Mexico again was as sad for her as it was for Georgia but Carla needed to be strong for both of them.
âWhy are you weeping, Mom? She asked, tapping Georgia lightly on the arm. Their last night crawled up on them slowly, which made Carla wished she had some sort of supernatural powers to stop the time
Georgia shook her head, trembling slightly âNo Nothing, I think something got into my eyes, thatâs all â
Carla sighed âIâm not a kid you know, and itâs very clear that youâre cryingâ
*Iâm not crying. I think dust got into my eyes or something âGeorgia replied shakily.
Sighing again, Carla faced her mother and stared her right into her eyes âIâm only a few hours away and itâs not like Iâd be leaving for good, so why are you crying? Besides, Liam will make arrangements for you to come to our wedding so I donât understand why youâre cryingâ
Georgiaâs tear rimmed eyes looked confused for a minute âI thought you guys decided to go for a very small wedding?â
âOf course, but that wouldnât stop you from coming, so I donât understand why youâre crying âCarla replied.
Georgia stared at her daughter with bloodshot eyes and red nose âYou donât understand, do you baby?â
âMake me, Mom Carla muttered with a weary sigh.
Georgia gulped it wonât be the same situation picture anymore, this is the last night we have together as my daughter, youâd be a married woman the next time I see youâ She exhaled a deep breath and continued after a minute.
*This is the last night I get to see you as my single, unmarried little girlâ She whispered and sniffed, reaching for a tissue.
Carlaâs eyebrows were furrowed and she spread out her arms in confusion Well? I donât see the point here Mom, I am and will always be your little baby girl, nothing will change that, not even marriage
âCome here âGeórgia said and held out her arms in which Carla went into, liking the feeling of being engulfed in her momâs warmth.
Carla passed the night in Georgiaâs room, with her Mom holding her close and patting her hair, while humming softly. Carla woke up very early the next morning in a bid to make it to Mexico before dark. She had refused Liamâs help of arranging a flight for her, saying she could manage well on her own. She couldnât feed off him much longer, he always wanted to make things easy for her even when she didnât really needed his help. She had to survive on her own and not get used to him because it would only resulted into an heartache when the marriage was finally over. She had only accepted his offer of booking the flight for her to Houston because she was running out of time and had no choice. But things were different now, she had the time to book a flight for her return to Mexico and she did. She knew most girls would jump at the offer but she was different, she couldnât feed off him more than she already had
She wouldnât have accepted his contract proposal of marriage if it was not life saving but it wouldnât be dignified of her to leech off him for the maximum of the two years they would spend together
