Chapter 56
He closed his laptop and stood up. Carla stood by the door and waited for him to come over to her which he did. He walked in that sexy, masculine gait that never failed to take her breath away On getting to her, he smiled down at her and reached out to brush a strand of hair away from her face.
âWhat a pleasant surprise Mrs Blake, what are you doing here?â He asked teasingly
She placed her hands on her hips and gave him a hard stare âI came to say Hi to my husband of course and she rolled her eyes.
He laughed and bumped her nose lightly, which made her scrunch up her noseâ Of course you can! Who the hell says you canât do that?â He asked rhetorically and laughed.
*Come on âHe added and placed his hand on the small of her back, leading her to the couch on one of the office. He sank down on to it first and pulled her down into his lap. Carla exhaled a soft sigh of contentment as Liam began to nuzzle her neck.
âI feel like itâs been ages since I set my eyes on you last, I missed you âHe whispered into her ear and bit her earlobe, a soft moan escaping through her lips.
âI missed you too She replied, her just as soft.
He raised up his head to look at her âSo what have you been up to lately? âHe asked casually but something told her he was interested in whatever it was that concerned her.
*You look beautiful by the way, just like always âHe added, commenting on her look and outfit.
She blushed and hid her face in his chest Thank youâ She murmured, her voice as soft as velvet
*So what have you been up to. Mrs Blake?â He repeated the question he asked earlier and Carla pushed herself up, getting ready to talk.
She started casually âNothing really, just staying home, doing practically nothing and getting bored of it so I came out âShe answered.
âReally?â He asked, playing with a lock of her well arranged hair.
âYupâ She replied
âBut last night when I came home, I had a feeling that something was not right but I couldnât figure out what exactly it was but my guts kept telling me it had to do with youâ He frowned in concentration.
Her eyes widened in surprise pretence âMe? Hell no, your feeling had nothing to do with me â She defended herself.
âReally?â Liam grinned at her and she nodded.
Are you really okay? Not sick or anything? Damn, I canât just ignore the fact that something might actually be wrong with youâ He sighed in frustration.
âWell, âCarla raised her hands for him to see âAs you can see, Iâm fine, perfectly fineâ She smiled at him brightly.
Youâre not sick or anything, are you?â He probed further, searching her face for some hidden emotions that might proved him right.
She shook her head with a smile âThere is no cause for alarm Mr Blake, Iâm as agile as ever âHer eyes twinkled with with hidden excitement which made Liam come to the conclusion that she was truly happy About what exactly though? Their perfect, little lives perhaps? He wasnât sure.
She started talking again Though⦠âAnd stopped, smiling at something she seemed to have remembered. Her smile was a mixture of sadness and happiness coupled together to become hope of something better, he couldnât gauge the expression well,
He perked up âThough? âHe prompted when he saw that she wasnât planning of saying more anytime soon.
She sighed and continued âThough I didnât feel too good few days ago.
âWhy didnât you tell me??â He half shouted and Carla cringed a little. He moved back a little to search her face thoroughly, scared the sickness might still lingered around her somewhere.
âWhy didnât you inform me about it sooner so I would have taken you to the hospital? Why? âHe asked, his voice more calm this time.
She placed her hands over his and shook her head Itâs fine Liam, really Iâm okayâ
*But Iâm your husband Carla, I should know whatâs going on with youâ He insisted and ran his thumb over her lower lip softly.
âIâm fine now, arenât I? She said in a whisper, his thumb on her lip was starting to have an effect on her. She was brought out of the spell he seemed to have casted on her when her phone rang.
Liam pretended not to hear the shrilling ringtone and continued to caress his thumb over her lip until she slapped his hand away.
*Stop! I have a collâ She said, laughing and took out her phone. It was Jenny.
âHey bitch! Whatâs up? Jenny shouted from the other end and Carla rolled her eyes.
âIâm good and you? She asked Jenny anyway
*Well, Iâm good, way too good in fact âJenny said, sounding excited.
Carla got curious so she asked âYou sound happy, whatâs up? She asked with earnest interest.
Jenny giggled âDo I? Then she coughed slightly before she started talking again in her normal voice.
âWellâ¦â She stopped and laughed, which made Carlaâs curiosity turned into annoyance by Jennyâs attempt to stall for time.
âWhat is it, Jenny?â Carla asked with a hint of anger, as she didnât like to be kept waiting and Jenny knew that too but chose to torment her a little bit.
She giggled againâ That jerk finally asked me to be his date tomorrow night! She whooped.
Carla frowned âWho?â
Jennyâs laughter died down âYou donât know who?! Are you kidding me now?!â She shrieked in mack surprise.
Carla rolled her eyes âI donât know dummy, only if youâd be kind to tell me â
Jenny sighed dramatically âOkay. I forgot you have a lot going through your head.â
Carla cut her off Cut it out Jenny, now talk or Iâll hang upâ
âYou wouldnât dare!â Jenny yelled threateningly
âTry me âCame Carlaâs firm reply
