Chapter 70
The house was dark and quiet so she automatically assumed Liam had gone to bed.
*Thank goodnessâ She really didnât have any strength to deal with him right now As quietly as she could manage, she went tiptoed into Domâs nursery and her face broke into a tender smile when she saw her son sleeping soundly. She closed the door quietly and proceeded upstairs to their bedroom. She opened the door quietly and closed it behind her. She breathed a sigh of relief but it was short lived because when she turned, Liam was sitting on the bed, his head popped up against his chin as he stared at her.
âHey âShe said softly and started walking towards the bathroom, all the while aware of his piercing gaze on her.
âWhatâs the meaning of all these, Carla? His question made her stop in her tracks and she closed her eyes briefly, getting ready mentally for what was
to come
She turned and feigned oblivious to what he meant âWhat do you mean?â
He raised his eyebrows, not liking the fact that she wanted him to repeat his question You heard me right Carla, why? Whatâs the meaning of all these?â
She sighed âI just went to a party Liam, is that so wrong?â
*Yes it is, considering how youâre nursing a baby, itâs so wrong of you to do that âLiam said quietly and Carla flared.
âWho the hell are you to tell me what to do?! She shouted. It was meant to be a rhetorical question because she needed no answer but Liam replied
anyway
*How about your husband?â He asked.
*Fake,â She corrected him with a piercing glare âIt all fake Liam, you know it yourself that this marriage is fake and will be over soon enoughâ
*Keep your voice down Liam cautioned calmly but Carla went on like he hadnât said anything.
*Speaking of which, âShe continued âWhen exactly would we go our separate ways??â
He eyed her âI thought we had an agreementâ
Her nostrils flared âTo hell with the agreement, when am I leaving?? I canât have you controlling my life all the time, Iâm done!â With that said, she stomped off into the bathroom and took long in there.
When she came out, Liam was still in the same position she left him, sitting at the foot of the bed. She ignored him and went to her side of the bed and laid down. Of course, she wasnât facing his side, what had he expected when he glanced at her?
*You wanna leave because youâre tired of me controlling your life?â He asked quietly but received no reply from her.
âIf thatâs what you want, itâs fine, just wait a few more months and youâll be free to go live your life the way you wanted before I trapped you into this marriageâ He said and slept on his side of the bed too, the space that was between them could accommodate three people.
Carla felt a hint of guilty, she ought to have corrected him when he implied that her consent to their marriage in the first place was forced. It wasnât his fault she knew, they had both agreed to it so it wasnât his fault, she had signed the contract willingly.
Just a few more months and she would be out of this marriage, she should be happy really, but why did she feel an empty void in her? She couldnât explain the reason. Well, everything would be back to normal when she was finally out of this marriage. Nothing will ever be normal with you again, the voice in her head scoffed and Carla rolled her eyes. Yes, everything would be normal with her dummy, she fired back. Well, would like to see you try to make it be, the voice threw back, which made Carla pushed it out totally and concentrated on getting some sleep but that proved difficult. In the middle. of the night, she went into her sonâs nursery and watched him sleep. His breathing was even and he looked so much like Liam that her heart ached. So she would leave her sweet pea in the next few months, she thought sadly. As if Dom knew he was being watched, his eyes flew open in a way that Carla found funny so she laughed. Dom regarded her with sleepy eyes for a moment and Carla caressed his cheeks softly, leaning in to inhale his sweet baby
scent.
âOh my sweet baby, Iâm gonna have to leave you with Daddy in the coming months â She whispered.
As if Dom understood what she said, he started to cry and Carla picked him up from his bed and placed him on her chest. She patted his back softly and he whimpered before going back to sleep.
Carla carried him back into their bedroom and laid him on the big space between them. She played with his hair until she slept off.
âYouâre dumb, you know that? Why would you let go of him now that you have a child together!â Jenny shouted, trying to drum some sense into her
friend
Carla shook her head âYou donât understand Jennyâ¦â
*Then make me understand because youâre being hard on yourself!â Jenny exclaimed, frustrated by her friendâs unyielding attitude.
âIt was a marriage in name only Jenny, donât act like youâre oblivious to that when I signed the contract years back âCarla said and eyed her.
âTo hell with the contract, do you really want to leave that sweet baby all alone? Jenny asked.
Carla sighed âI have no choice Jenny, it was stated in the contract, I have to leaveâ
*No, you do have a choice Carla, you can choose the right way now and get that contract shit out of your headâ Jenny said, trying to convince her
âYou would be making a big mistake if you leave this poor boy to a nanny Jenny glared at her.
*Jenny, he doesnât even want me to stay!â Carla shouted, wondering she couldnât see eye to eye on things with her friend.
âNo, he wants you to stay! Havenât you seen the way he looks at you?! Carla this guy loves you! Jenny shouted back.
