Chapter 17: Chapter 16 | Haunted

Taji is a spitting image of Yukashi. Natural thick waves flowing down to the nape of his neck and framing his small, round face; large, innocent soft blue eyes that sparkle by the radiance of the room like crystals, his skin pale yet soft as a baby, and how small he is. He can barely reach Zero's waist—just above his knees except below his hip—and he finds himself softening at the radiant presence of the six-year-old vampire who exuberantly clings to Yukashi's hand and drags him about while Zero follows.

He can't help admiring the two from behind, his heart warming and tinging with pain knowing six years ago Yukashi had his son in his arms while Zero was merely a child. A part of him wishes he was born sooner so he could have been at Yukashi's side and hold onto the precious child in his arms. It is a strange thought to him, a thought he never believed he would be able to have.

After all, he believed all his life no one can be with the monster he is, no one would want to look inside him, no one would be capable of staying by his side and...love him. When Zero thinks back he had all the opportunity to have it except the fear of it being torn away from him like his family was too great. He didn't want to risk someone else being dragged into his misfortunes. His curse.

It fills him with more agony. He can only imagine how long Taji has missed his father, how Zero was being so cold toward Yukashi in the beginning and eventually began to accept this bond between them aside from the fact he has yet to entirely grasp the situation. He's angry he wasn't told of this sooner, angry a six-year-old boy had to suffer the longing of his father—his only parent because of Zero.

He can't help wondering about the relationship Yukashi had six years ago. He can't help wondering how many were there before Zero, how many kids Yukashi has had in his time. Inquires he knows he can't bring himself to ask, it twists his veins with envy, fury, and a deep possessiveness. They stroll through the corridors, floors made of hard brown wood glossy to reflect the lights from the hanging chandeliers; rugs covering a large area of a room from the slightly ajar doors Zero can see as he walks.

Everything is spacious, luxurious, and antique. Gives an earnest, homely welcome vibe to it. As if the house itself retains its years giving the tenants the sensation of making this their home. It disturbs Zero...this mansion gives him a false illusion of belonging. It makes him uncomfortable, a place he has never been to before and subtly he feels this is his rightful place—something completely absurd and downright disturbing for Zero.

Lavender eyes settle on the little boy, his footsteps matching Yukashi in small, gentle glides as if he is walking over water; it is a peculiar way of saying but that's the impression Yukashi is giving. Taji's small feet somehow keeps up with Yukashi's long, slender legs which tricks the eye due to his loose slacks when his legs are muscularly firm with a tender skin. He shivers at the vivid image, shaking his head with a frown.

It isn't the time for such things to be going through his mind. The immaculate vampire donning a neat suit and slacks opens the doors to the right as Zero stands behind the short blondes he sees a broad wooden dark brown table with four brown chairs in a white and green floral cushion design on either side of the table following with one at either end.

Two candle chandeliers hang from the ceiling holding six lit candles. On the table are set of tableware, plates, glass, and one lofty silver vase. A red antiquely designed rug is below the table and chairs, reaching two inches before every corner of the room. "Dinner will be served shortly." The butler announces.

Zero stalks Yukashi's heels inside, biting his lower lip and furrowing his eyebrows—lost. He soon stops at a distance from the table, a servant pulling a chair for Taji to sit on wearing a white suit—opposite to the butler. Yukashi stands beside the head chair, soft blue eyes gazing at him in silent request to which the silver hair vampire simple returns a blank stare. He walks to the chair pulling it back, the blonde Pureblood flashes Zero a smile as he sits down and Zero pushes the chair in enough to leave space for Yukashi.

He sits on the chair opposite of Taji—next to Yukashi. The hunter has mixed feelings about the situation at hand. The spitting image of Yukashi in a form of an innocent child smiles exactly like Yukashi and his eyes lightens the world. Taji is not to blame for anything occurring between Yukashi and himself, a child holds no responsibility whatsoever.

This is Yukashi's doing. Zero is indeed upset knowing there is a child involved, a child belonging to Yukashi, the mother who had carried the precious creature in her womb is dead. He doesn't know what he is feeling. Maybe betrayal knowing Yukashi had created a sweet, gentle little child on his own. A child Zero cannot call his own nor a child that belongs to Yukashi and himself.

A part of himself is stunned. Perhaps the thought of having a mini Yukashi around has only crossed his mind once—in a pleasant dream when Zero had built a family he loved with his entire being. Now he knows it is no longer a dream instead it is a harsh reality smacking him in the face knowing Taji is nothing of Zero besides being the son of his soulmate.

The silver hair hunter knows he would have rejected Yukashi upon knowing this about the Pureblood out of consideration of the child yet...why does it pain him more to be told now than sooner? To see such a bright little sun Yukashi has made and raised all on his own. Even if Taji wishes for Zero to be another parental figure, Zero is not prepared for this.

He never expected himself to be cut out for this. Maybe he shouldn't have come to meet the son of his soulmate so soon after learning of his existence. In the storm of his own thoughts Zero finally stands up with swift movements startling Yukashi and Taji; their eyes gleaming in concern—they look exactly the same.

Words are stuck in his throat when all Zero wants to say would push Yukashi away from him. He wants to voice his feelings, his thoughts, everything. They're all stuck in his mouth, his throat clenching around it with his lips screw shut. With one look at Yukashi, he glares coldly and storms his way out of the dining area to a different part of the mansion.

He doesn't care where. Simply somewhere away from Yukashi and Taji until he can wrap his head around what is causing him to go into turmoil. His cool and indifferent expression has cracked, the apathy he used to hide behind has been torn long ago leaving him exposed to the Pureblood with raw, sensitive emotions.

"Zero!" Yukashi yells after him resulting in Zero walking faster, his urge for distance growing stronger.

"Wait! Zero, what's wrong?" Zero is forced to halt when a hand takes a hold of his forearm. He stays frozen, eyes staring ahead while Yukashi tries to get into his apparition, standing in front of him, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have allowed you to meet Taji so soon. I can have someone drive you back to the academy if you wish. I don't want you to feel-" Yukashi is cut off in surprise by the subtle feeling of Zero's lips on his own.

Zero is not thinking—he doesn't want to think anymore, and the first impulse is to kiss him. The rampant notions stop, a fog of delight settles into his quiet mind as he melts by the tingles sparking on his snowy white skin. His arms wrap around Yukashi's waist, guiding him to the wall; he firmly pins the blonde against it, moving his lips in a slow passionate pace.

They continue to move their lips in perfect synchronicity, engulfing into each other's warmth, scent, and touch. Zero's mind is spinning, sending a heat of pleasure through his lean frame as he pulls away from the kiss—lavender staring into dazed soft blues, "I don't want to argue here. I'm not going back either, I demanded to see him and I did. I just..." Zero pauses incapable to proceed the movement of his tongue as it falls limp in his mouth, lips parts to catch his breath as it brushes over Yukashi's.

The hunter doesn't wait for a response from the blonde, dropping his head onto Yukashi's shoulder and buries his nose into his neck. His eyes catch a glimpse of the birthmark on his neck once more, a simple little mark nagging at him from the back of his head—feeding him with an uneasy impression. Zero brushes it, pressing his lips against it causing Yukashi to noticeably shudder in arms, "You just what?" Yukashi's asks in a trembling voice.

He contemplates if he should answer the vampire in his arms, does he want Yukashi to know the fury in his veins pulsing in calm waves? Does he want Yukashi to know how he feels about Yukashi creating such a sweet little child and leaves him here on his own to attend Cross Academy? Or the envy of those lovers before Zero, those children before Taji? Or the harsh reality that Zero cannot give Yukashi a family like any other female can give Yukashi?

In truth, Zero cannot have a child. He cannot have a child to call Yukashi and him 'ours'. "I just can't understand why you would leave him all alone to go to Cross Academy." He mumbles instead in Yukashi's neck, the sweet fragrance of the vampire brings his little solace of Zero's inner turmoil. Yukashi doesn't answer his question immediately except when he does, it is an answer Zero is not impressed to hear again, "Kaname needed me."

The silver hair vampire sighs in exasperation, tearing his body away from the short Pureblood and train his eyes elsewhere, clenching his jaw to reign in his vexation. Right, everything is Kaname. He bets if Kaname asked him to jump off a cliff he'd more than happily do it without so much of a complaint. "I thought so. Tell Taji I'm sorry, I feel tired. I'm going to bed." He states leaving Yukashi leaning against the wall as he continues to the same direction he was heading earlier recalling the location Yukashi had told him the prepared room is.
