Everything is going so fast. Zero thinks as he gazes out of the window of the carriage; his body would jolt and sway along the movements of the wheels that would step over a rock pavement or the horses would come to an abrupt stop.
Three days in Yukashi's household with his sonâTaji has opened his mind to a lot of things. Pondering of a future Zero didn't imagine he would see with anyone; he believed he was cursed for an eternity of solitude. Who was going to love a monster like Zero? Who was willing to give up their mortality to be damned for loving him? No one.
At least that's what he had first thought after he saw the way Kaname and Yuuki would express their love in front of his face even knowing how he felt about it. After losing to his endlessly driven desire toward Yukashi when he had first met him. After he realized what Zero felt for Yuuki was wishful thinking. After he realized...he wants a future with Yukashi and Taji.
A future. Zero frowns slightly, the word sounds foreign to him yet bubbles his chest with nostalgia. He feels Yukashi shift around, placing his hand over Zeros locking their fingers together and rests his head on his shoulder. The tension in the silver hunter's frame lessens, relishing in the gentle tingles dancing around his snow white skin.
It all sounds like a dream. Except he isn't sure if he's ready for the responsibility to take care of a child. He's still a teenager and looking after a five-year-old sound like a big thing. Maybe it's best they wait, give it time or else Zero is going to fuck things up.
This time he wants to try everything possible not to.
Happiness is within his reach now. A part of him is afraid of how surreal it is, anticipating anything at all to ruin his momentâhis chance at something he may never have again. His nostrils twitch slightly from the intoxicating smell of Yukashi's scent sending shivers of delight down his body. "Zero, are we okay?" Yukashi asks.
That's a good question. It makes the silver hair hunter wonder how long Yukashi has been mulling over the enquiry before gathering the courage to ask. Are they okay? He has no idea. As far as he's concerned, this relationship he's looking forward with Yukashi includes a child.
He supposes it was now or never and he is one hundred percent certain if Yukashi had kept the secret to himself a little longer, Zero most likely would have fucked everything up for good. "We will be. We'll work something out." Zero assures Yukashi with his thumb brushing over the blonde's knuckles. Despite what he has said, he isn't sure how they're going to make it work.
That day at the festival made Zero feels as if everything was in the right place. It made him momentary forget the small child in Yukashi's arms wasn't Zero's, it made him give in to the warmth flooding his chest that overwhelmed him. If he could have another day with them he'd take it except when Yukashi told him of Kaname asking them to return to the academy he knew his short time was up.
He remembers the disheartened look on Taji's face, it broke his heart knowing the happy child was going to be alone again after getting his father back. Taji wouldn't leave their side for anything as he watched Yukashi pack his things and Zero changed into a spare of clothes Yukashi managed to get his hands on that fits him well.
Zero had a small bag gathering the clothes he wore for those three days as well as his school uniform in which he had gone arrived with Yukashi wearing it. Zero didn't even think to pack his own clothes due to the urgency of the situation. However, Taji caught something the hunter had forgotten why he had brought with him, to begin with.
The earring.
Somehow Zero resulted in giving the basic gift matching the silver material of his own to Taji. When he had pierced the boy's ear with Yukashi's approval, Zero felt guilty expecting the small boy to cry in pain except he didn't. He didn't appear to feel it at all and the wound healed successfully.
It was then Taji grinned, happily claiming, "Daddy, look! I look like Zero now!"
An instinct Zero never thought he'd feel hit it like a ton of bricks. He wanted to protect the little ray of sun; he wanted to keep any harm from ever coming to the boy and Zero wanted to stay. Nonetheless, Yukashi caught on to Zero's gift when Taji ran off to show it to Eichiâthe Shoto Family's Butler.
Instead of promising a new earring Zero thought it wouldn't mean anything. It wouldn't express what he wanted to express to Yukashi and so gave him his own earring that matched the pair on his right earlobe. The absence of one of the earrings feels strange to him but seeing Yukashi's small right ear bearing the silver accessory and his platinum blonde locks framing his face fills him with satisfaction.
He never thought it'd suit him so well.
Eventually, the carriage arrives in front of Cross Academy; the school standing large and proud behind the gates. Clouds coils forward, barely managing to stretch far enough to cover the entire blue sky; the sun doesn't make an appearance behind the thick billowing mass.
They make it past the entrance and at the front of the main building, they carry out luggage and begin walking around it toward the direction of the dorms. From a distance, Yukashi and Zero can hear the sounds of chatter among humans making Zero frowns in confusion. "I think this is where we part ways," Yukashi sighs softly glancing at Zero with a small smile on his tender lips. "Will I see you tonight? Or perhaps tomorrow?"
The silver hunter mulls it over, contemplating until his desire to have the Pureblood in his arms grows too much to handle. "Tonight." Zero answers in confirmation. He leans down to the shorter vampire pressing his cold lips against Yukashi, lingering for a long moment before parting. Zero licks his lips as if savoring the taste of the blonde causing the vampire to flush.
Without another word, Zero strolls his way back to the front of the main building deciding to avoid the group of students by taking the opposite direction of Yukashi. The last thing he needs is for a rumor between Yukashi and him being a couple; no matter how badly he wants the world to know Yukashi belongs to him, he can't handle people sticking their noses into his life.
Annoyance dwells in him when he hears the students shriek calling after, "Prince Shoto" and how happy they are he returned. The only thing keeping Zero from wanting to take out his Bloody Rose and shoot them is the notion of Zero being the only one who's seen every inch and every side of Yukashi no one has been able to see. Pride twists in his chest, managing to make it past them unnoticed with a smirk curling at his lips.
The path to the Sun Dormitory comes into view, the lofty gate designed in a European gothic architecture making the building appear far more basic and humbler than it initially looks. It isn't until he is walking by the outline of the garden leading to the dorm gate does he halt listening to the faint sound of...singing?
A chill runs down his spine, placing his bag down and pulls out his Blood Rose prepared for anything as he steps into the garden leading to the tall woods. His shoes crunch the fully bloomed flowers and grass, cursing at it for making so much noise except it doesn't stop whatever it is singing in the woods.
He inhales catching the scent of what he knows very well to be a Pureblood. Glancing at his surrounding to make sure no one is watching him, he speeds into the woods approaching the singing voice becoming clearer. It is a gentle lullaby of sorts, a voice in perfect angelic tune and reaching high notes so mesmerizingly it nearly drove Zero to a full stop.
Lilac eyes glow into a bright red, the Hunter's seal on his neck matching the color of his eyes. Fangs protrude from his lips as he bares them at the Pureblood; Zero doesn't deny she is absolutely beautiful. Unlike any female, he has seen.
She appears to be in her late teens, wavy blonde hair so long and soft catching itself at her shoes; bangs frame her alluring, delicate face and light blue eyes. It looks like the sky above his head, translucent and calming. Surprisingly she dons a night class uniform consisting of a white formal jacket with black lining design, rose buttons and cufflinks. She wears it over a black dress shirt, a red ribbon around her thin neck, white miniskirt, thigh-high sockets hugging the thickness of her thighs, and a pair of dark colored boots.
Zero knows every single Night class student attending Cross Academy and this vampire he only spotted a few times. He never did learn her name. "Who are you and what are you doing here?" His voice cold and demanding, silver guns designed in an intricate rose diagram. Her plump lips stop moving, the angelic voice quiet and it makes Zero almost wish to hear it again.
Shimmering blues gazes into his glowing red ones, features soft. "Poor, poor boy. You truly have no idea who you lay in bed with. Such a pretty one you are, it's a shame." Her voice majestic, tone soft-spoken and sounding genuinely disappointed for reasons Zero is unsure of. Her vagueness causes him to stiffen pulling back the safety of his weapons, glaring at the woman in front of him.
"I won't ask again."
Nonetheless, she smiles as if an anti-vampire weapon capable to end her existence isn't in front of her face. Zero would have thought her to be blind if it weren't for her gaze being directly into his eyes. "How well do you believe you know Yukashi Shoto? I know I do."
It dawns on Zero instantly and he snarls, "Sara Shirabuki."
She doesn't respond to confirm nor deny, instead, she smiles and the next second she disappears from Zero's sight. Growling in frustration he tries to pinpoint where could she be but determines she is gone. Why would she lure him here? What was the point of her asking Zero about Yukashi? Granted, Zero doesn't know as much as he wanted to know about him but it doesn't mean he won't.
I don't know Yukashi. Zero thinks to himself as he lowers his weapon. That's why she was here, to rub it in his face there are things he doesn't know about his soul mate. Obviously Zero wants to know, the question is how much does he want to know? What is it about the Pureblood others can see and he can't?
Why are they so committed to telling Zero?
