Chapter 3: Chapter 2 | Monster

Yukashi | VK Fanfic | ✓Words: 9394

Three days.

The two words repeat to the back of Zero's mind resting his chin on the palm of his hand. Lavender eyes stare far to the window, the teacher's lecture going in one ear and leaving out the other. Maybe the Pureblood became afraid of him; he wouldn't blame him considering he had attacked him.

Whether such actions were consensual or not, it wasn't right. It further proves how much of a monster he feels. He couldn't control himself, he can't seem to figure out as to why he felt the rush in him. Why he couldn't allow the Pureblood to leave his sight until he had done what he did and despite his hatred for vampires he isn't cold enough to do such a thing.

If the Pureblood—Yukashi—Zero tries to remember his name unsure if it's the correct one. If Yukashi was human, would he have repeated his actions? Then he remembers when the blonde tells him about 'soulmates'. It sounds like a load of bullshit to him. There is no way something so stupid exists and even if it did, he wouldn't want to be mated to a vampire of all things.

His thoughts continue to storm his mind, he has stayed up all night thinking. Repeating the memories. Maybe the Pureblood was a figment of his imagination. Maybe he had imagined seeing the Pureblood and he would have believed it if he wouldn't stop hearing the Day class students talking about him. 'What happened to the new student?' is the new gossip.

Aside from Kaname coming to visit two nights ago. Angry and collected. Kaname smelled heavily of the Pureblood and it irked him in a negative manner. His chest clenched so tightly he could barely breathe when he inhaled the fragrance, the vexation and resentment pulsing so thick in his veins had tempted him into shooting the brunette's face. Kill him. Rip him apart.

But he didn't. He couldn't because he understood why Kaname scolded him for what he had done. Kaname and Yukashi must be fairly close to one another, it wouldn't surprise Zero if the blonde was either a loyal follower of Kaname or another one of those who is in love with him. Except, it wouldn't make sense why the Pureblood would make up something as a 'soulmate' and consent to something Zero forced him to do.

"-ero! Zero!" Yuuki's voice reaches his ears bringing him back from his deep rumination, turning his head to face the brown-haired girl with wide brown eyes peering down at him in concern. Lavender eyes gaze at her, staring at her small round face followed by a slim, delicate neck he has bitten many times before. Yet, there is no impulse controlling him to drink from her no matter how appealing it may smell.

"What?" He drawls in a lethargic, jaded tone.

Yuuki furrows her eyebrows noticing the faraway look in his eyes, "Class is over, and you were still staring out the window. Is everything okay, Zero?" It sounded sweet at how worried she is about him and at the same time it sickens to hear the girl he loves be so concerned about him when in love with a Pureblood.

"I'm fine," He answers briefly not feeling he should tell anything about the other night. It isn't any of her business, "I'm just tired." He adds. He's been feeling more and more tired lately and if he were to be precise as to when then he'd speculate to be the same night he had-

"You're always saying that." Yuuki states as Zero stands up from his desk ignoring the tone of her voice making his way to the exit, "You're always asking."

"You're doing it again."

"Doing what again?"

"Closing yourself off." She retorts stalking at his heels out of the door to the hallway, "When aren't I?" His tone is rude in return, something he normally doesn't do to Yuuki. The longer she sticks beside him the aggravation increasing and for some reason, he is beginning to notice how he can't tolerate her as much as he has before. Childhood friend or not, may she be the girl he loves or not, he doesn't feel like being near her.

He is forced to halt his next steps when Yuuki's small hand grasps his; it is evident on her face of her bemusement. Something is going on with Zero and she wishes to go what it is, but her instincts are telling her to leave him be which at the moment she isn't sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing. He peers over his shoulder looking down at her, "Zero, I don't understand what's going on or if there's anything I can help you with but I'm here if you want to talk." She says.

Zero's eyes soften, unable to bring himself to feel guilty for acting the way he is, although it doesn't mean she deserves to be treated like crap either. "Thank you, Yuuki." He answers.

Twilight is approaching. Lavender eyes scrutinize the display of colors from blue to purple, purple to pink, pink to red, and red to orange. Small puffs of white cloud steadily fade, allowing a thick layer of darkness to pull itself over the firmament with only a bright, white moon to shine down at the academy spreading it's mysterious, supernatural effects. He stands beside the window of his dorm room; his eyes can see the entrance gates of the Sun Dormitory.

A rap against the door alerts Zero of his daily regimen duties, pushing himself off the windowsill feeling his inner beast awaken in anticipation. It bothers Zero too much, long since stopped expecting the platinum-haired Pureblood to walk with the Night class and greet him with the same breathtaking smile from the other night. He shakes his head scowling at himself, shrugging off the fleck of hope as he opens the door to his room to see Yuuki standing with her hands behind her back and a smile.

Usually, he'd adore the smile on the precious girl's lips. Only, it isn't the same for him anymore. To him, her smiles are more casual than special. "They should be coming out soon." She advocates earning a nod as a response from Zero. He steps out, closing the door behind him and walks beside the brunette to the direction of the exit of the Sun Dormitory.

It takes a while to walk from the Sun Dormitory to the Moon Dormitory. They remain silent, Yuuki occasionally stealing glances to the vampire hunter who doesn't pay her a single glimpse of his attention to her. Zero's mind is too far gone, conflicted with himself—torn in two.

His breathing becomes shorter and shorter the closer they approach the front gate of the front gate, this is something that hasn't happened before which aggravates him as he doesn't want to feel like an anxious wreck. He tries as best as possible to ignore it, barking at the student to keep themselves in line and at distance from the Night class students.

As soon as Zero and Yuuki are standing in front of the 'fangirls', the Night class coming out from begin the gates. Walking elegantly and graceful as a group, wearing immaculate white uniform serving as a stark contrast to the uniform of the Day class. Zero grits his jaws glaring at them until his nose catches a familiar fragrance; lilac eyes widen, his heart beating rapidly in his chest as he slaps his hand over his mouth to hide the fact his inner beast is starving for blood again.

He curses from the back of his head having to fight himself to gain control and when he feels like he has some sort of restraint, the scent is thick in his lungs and he forces himself to look up from the ground he glared at. Glowing red return to lavender, instantly his eyes fall on the familiar platinum blonde cascading like ocean waves to his soft pale nape; a scorching heat sparks in his body remembering how his skin felt so delicate yet perfect for the tip of his fingers.

Luscious lips pulled into a smile; lips he has kissed a few times, tender to his own and a part of him is already imagining how it will feel to bite them. Blue eyes mesmerize him above all else, a resemblance to the fountain reflecting its clear blueness with flecks of silver—quickly becoming Zero's delights. His eyes trial lower, narrowing when he spots a bandage on the side of his neck—the same side he bit him on.

Questions rouse from the back of his head, the blonde turning away from Kaname to Zero causing the smile to brighten further nearly blinding him. Yuuki catches the strange demeanor—inquisitive. Zero can't look away, the impulses gradually becoming harder to control but he keeps a firm grip on himself to avoid a repeat of the other night. Zero begins to feel terrible, forcing himself to look away and glare at the ground.

Regardless of how he feels for attacking the Pureblood the way he did, he wants to do it again. "Yukashi, remember what I told you." Zero hears Kaname tell the blonde Pureblood who faces him again with a small frown, "I remember but ca-"

"No," Zero freezes at the stern cold tone of Kaname's voice, "You're behind in class as it is."

Zero doesn't spare them a glance, focusing on keeping the fangirls from getting pass Yuuki and him. Yuuki smiles at Kaname who returns the smile, Yukashi stares at Zero—blue eyes expressing his sorrow. Zero doesn't see anything, far too deep in his own thoughts.

Zero already knows he's a monster. But the fact he wants to repeat the things he has done before which clearly hurt Yukashi to the point he couldn't attend his classes. He needs to keep a distance. He needs to keep away, he has no idea if Yukashi will be hurt again or if someone else will when he loses control the way he did.

It's for the best. None of it should have happened to begin with.
