MELODY

“Mel, it’s me,” Jake’s voice came from the other side. “Are you okay? You didn’t come down, so I wanted to check on you. We’re watching a movie in the basement. Are you coming?”

I sighed in relief. “Yeah, I’m okay. I was taking a shower. I’ll be down in five.”

“Okay.” When I heard his footsteps fading, I leaned my back against the door and exhaled.

“You’re close to Jake.” He came forward with a smug smile on his face.

“Yeah. I never lied to him before,” I gritted out.

“Sorry.” I could see he wasn’t sorry, not even a little bit.

“Go before Lisa comes looking for you,” I hissed.

His smile faltered, and he nodded and walked out, not before giving me a passionate kiss that made my toes curl.

I was gasping for air when he was finished and backed away. He chuckled when he saw I wanted more, but I was never going to admit it to him, so I crossed my arms and turned away from him.

He leaned down and kissed my neck, then he bit my earlobe lightly and whispered, “This kiss was only a sample, sweetheart.

“You will be begging for more when I give you a real kiss, and believe me, I will ruin you for another man. No one will satisfy you like I can.”

He bit my neck hard, giving me a massive hickey, and walked out.

~Bastard.~

~

He knew I wanted more, but he didn’t know I was going to give him massive blue balls.

His balls would ache for release, but he would not get it until I wanted him to, and I was going to tease him because he’d made me all wet and needy again.

I walked to my closet and took out a sexy tank top and booty shorts. After putting them on, I walked down to the basement. I knew everyone would be there, except for Mom and Dad.

I opened the door, and as I walked in, everyone’s eyes were on the screen until I cleared my throat.

Everyone’s jaw hit the floor, because they knew I never wore something like this at home. I usually wore yoga pants and a top.

From the corner of my eye, I saw his eyes moving up and down my body, and he swallowed hard, shaking his head. I bit my lips to suppress a giggle.

“Fucking hell, Mel. What the fuck are you wearing?” Nick shrieked.

“What? Shorts and a top that I usually wear.” I shrugged innocently.

“You don’t wear shorts and tops at home,” Lisa said.

“I wanted to wear them today.” I flopped beside Jake.

He gave me a questioning look. I shrugged and looked at the screen. They were watching horror movies. I looked for my popcorn bowl.

“Where’s my popcorn?” I asked, gaining their attention.

“Sorry. I ate it,” Lisa said. I smiled widely at her. She looked shocked because I never let anyone eat my popcorn.

“No problem, Lisa. Xavier, would you like to share your popcorn with me?” I asked him, because he was the only one with a bowl in his hand.

“Yeah, you can have it.” He passed the bowl to me.

“No, don’t give me the whole bowl. I asked you to share, not to give me all of it,” I said, my voice a little raspy.

I walked to where Xavier was sitting.

“Do you mind if I sit with you?” I asked innocently.

Unable to talk, he just shook his head. I grinned. First, I gave him a good view of my ass, then I rubbed my breasts slightly against his arm when I sat beside him on the couch.

He groaned and shifted in place a few times, adjusting his boner.

“Are you okay?” Lisa asked, rubbing her hand on his.

I clenched my fist when I saw how close they were sitting together, and he didn’t make a move to put distance between them.

It was the first time ever that I’d wished she were not here with us. I could see she cared for him. What if she had feelings for him?

~What are you doing Mel? He’s still with her…~

~

She cared for him.

I shook my head. I couldn’t do this when they were still together.

I took a few breaths to calm myself. I didn’t know what had possessed me to walk down wearing this.

~Stupid.~

~

~You are stupid, Mel.~

~

I had never been like this before. Why now? Why was I doing the thing I never did? It was only going to hurt me in the end.

I scooted away from him, keeping a proper distance between us.

~Keep your guard up, Mel~, I whispered to myself.

He frowned when he saw me move away from him. My selfishness won for a minute when I thought he would move closer to me, but he was still sitting with Lisa, holding her hand.

I wanted to laugh at my own stupidity when I’d thought our one-night stand had meant something to him; he only wanted to get in my pants once again.

I leaned back against the couch and focused on the movie, but my mind was far away from here, wishing I could go back and undo the day I met him, undo the feelings that were growing inside me.

Or that someone would tell me how to keep those feelings from going any deeper so I could stop myself from hurting any further.

I didn’t know when I fell asleep, but I felt someone carrying me in his arms.

I was way too tired to protest, so I just relaxed in his arms.
