Chapter 61: Fifty-Eight: Broken Star

Elliot

Everything seemed to slow down, almost to a freezing point as I watched in awe and horror as Sydney and my brother's eyes start to glow in challenge of each other.

Suddenly my brother's eyes drastically widened in terror seeing Sydney's eyes were alit like his were. But there was something different about her eyes though. White wolves and their guardians have glowing white eyes. But hers, hers were glowing with a tent of blue. A tent of insanity and madness.

Unease rested in my stomach.

Blinking ever so slowly like it was almost a waste of her time she then gracefully grabbed his wrist from her throat and snapped it back with a flick of the hand. Logan let out a yelp and his eyes dimmed as Sydney's power started to dominate his. She continued to twist his wrist with astonishing strength until the sound of it starting to crack occurred. The space between her hand and his skin started to glow and Logan's skin started to sear and burn. Now Logan was withering in pain and screaming.

Letting him fall to the ground she turned mindlessly and locked her sight on her nearest enemy, Tether. Tether seeing this roughly shoved Jasmine behind him and prepared for a fight that he wouldn't win.

Beside me, Jay seemed to snap out of his trance of shock and growled at the man threatening his mate.

Tethers men circled him ready to protect their beta and his mate.

Jay's men did the same only around their alpha.

"Move," Jay demanded showing off his canines.

Even though they were outnumbered they didn't back down and instead of doing as Jay asked, one brave, or incredibly stupid younger wolf, threw himself at Jay and shifted in doing so.

The other three hurled themselves at Jay's pack and myself.

I threw my arms up to block the wolf flying at me with an open jaw.

"Go inside and get more back up you idiots!" Jasmine screeched as she knew that this was going to get really bad, really fast. And it did.

Roughly I flung the wolf attacking me away. He slammed into the ground with a hard crack of bones crunching under the force.

I heard faintly Jasmine yelling but I was focused on my seemingly possessed mate. She wasn't herself as she walked right up to Tether and grabbed him by his neck, lifting him from the ground like he was a feather.

Tether fought against her arm but started to choke when like before when the space between her hand and his skin started to glowing and searing his skin.

My fist cracked against another mutts jaw as it tried to attack me. The sound of its jaw popping out of place was sickening but I wasn't focused on the group of men flooding out of the warehouse but on my mate was completely unaware of this.

"Sydney!" I yelled.

Her sharp eyes flashed to me and dimmed, as she seemed to recognize me and fall back into her old self again.

Before I could say anything else a man came up from behind her and quickly grabbed her around her waist and threw her into the ground away from Jasmine's mate. Dirt puffed around her but quickly settled. The man not giving her the chance to get up the man straddled her torso and let his fist fly into my mates face.

Mate! Protect!

My wolf took over and brought my body with it. My body snapped into place and fur itched through my skin.

Like lightning, I was over in a flash and tearing the fucking mutt's throat out. When my teeth sunk into his soft flesh I felt his blood leak into my mouth as bitter iron. Ripping his flesh and tendons out I flung the mouthful away, mildly satisfied with the kill.

Turning to Sydney I saw her face was bloodied and beaten making her barely recognizable. The glow of her eyes had faded though, leaving her green eyes to be one of the only identifiable things about her.

My heart ached and my wolf's natural instinct to help his mate took over. His tongue lapped over her sensitive wounds and he whimpered at her.

"Jaycen," She whispered petting the side of my furry face.

My wolf leaned into her hand and let his tongue run across her cheek again.

"Jaycen, behind you." One of my packmates warned.

I tried to spin to catch and kill bastard pup but I was immediately tackled by a large brown wolf. His jaw clamped down on my shoulder and I felt his teeth pierce through my skin tissue and into my tendons.

I let out a snarl of pain. Snapping my head at him I realized I couldn't get him from his position behind me. Preparing to snap at him again in false hope it would yield different results, another wolf bit down and ripped him away with a furious snarl.

My eyes widened in shock seeing that it was another white wolf that wasn't Sydney but Elliot. We shared a glance saying this was a one-time thing and don't take it for granted.

My wolf gave a slight bobble of the head in giving him a small thanks.

He took back off into the now blood bath that was playing out. More of Logan, or Tether's men had bustled out and now every one of my packmates was distracted by if not one then two or three other wolves.

Looking around I tried to decide where I needed to start my terror of killing and defending all of what's mine. My decision was immediate when I saw a wolf stalking closer to my mate who was trying to get back up.

Stooping low to the ground my lips flared back as I snarled threateningly at the prowling wolf.

Before he got any closer to my vulnerable mate, I pounced on him causing us to tumble into the ground and spiral down a small slope into a tree.

The wolf ended up pinning me to the tree before I could get my grip on him. He gave a snarky huff like he was laughing, humored by the turn of the situation.

I snapped at the husk of his throat that was open for the taking. Unfortunately, I was only able to scrap him, allowing blood to pool in the wound but not spill. Jumping back he prowled closer to the ground getting ready to fight.

As Jay went after another wolf he rolled out of my sight making my heart race in fear.

My whole body was aching as I tried pushing myself up to defend myself from any other attackers. As I was almost standing up, I was yanked up to my feet and before I could question who it was the person said, "Come on Sydney. We need to go."

Looking at Elliot I blushed and snapped my head in the other direction as I took in his naked state.

I nodded wordlessly as he pulled me in a direction through the fighting. We jogged dodging our way through the slew of people until we saw an outing into a forest away from the battle.

Elliot bent hand over knees huffing from running and the cuts all over his body.

"We should be safe no-" He was cut off before he got the chance to say anything else.

A darkly familiar scent invaded my nostrils, and my nerves were on end.

"Well thank you brother, brought her right to me so I can now rip her pretty throat out and then do the same to you, her precious mate, and then my fucking beta!" Logan ended with a roar of raw unwavering power.

Elliot stepped in front of me his shoulders back defensively.

"Watch it, Logan," Elliot snarled.

"I am very good brother. Now, why don't you move the hell out of before I kill you before you can even fucking blink."

"I'd like to see you try!" Elliot roared back.

Keeping his promise, it was as he said. My eyes had fluttered close and as they opened I saw Elliot and Logan in a mess on the floor. Logan was strangling the life out of his brother.

Screaming, I found myself shoving Logan off Elliot as he went tumbling into the ground, smacking his head on a rock as he went down. He groaned and rolled his head before it went slack again.

Once reassured that Logan was subdued, I rushed to Elliot's aid. Grabbing his hand I used my other hand to wipe off the blood smeared over his face. His eyes were slipping closed and the marks on his throat became more dominant as blood seeped out from the nail pricks from Logan's claws.

I whispered to him, "Hey-hey. Come on keep your eyes open Elliot."

His eyes fluttered open as he tried to listen to me.

"S-Sydney," He mumbled.

I nodded and pressed lightly on the freely bleeding wounds on his neck, "Yes, come on talk to me."

He seemed to try and nod, but his eyes fluttered close.

"Hey, Elliot come on. Stay here with me."

"S-Sydney, I-I-I love you." He whispered breathlessly. If it was from being in the condition he was or because of how powerful those words I wasn't sure.

I smiled sadly down at him, now brushing his temple gently. "Well, I love you too...as a friend. You're an amazing friend."

He frowned slightly but then his smile brightened. "Well as l-long as y-you are in-n my l-life."

"You too."

"Emily's inter-esting."

"That she is." I laughed thinking fondly on my best friend.

He tried a chuckle along, but it came out choppy and gargled.

I placed a hand on his chest trying to calm him down but suddenly I was flying face-first into the dirt.

Bitter dry sharp pebbles and dusty dirt filled my mouth chipping at my teeth and lips.

Really!? I thought as some pebbles embedded themselves in my now aching raw hands.

Groaning I went to roll over but only made it so far before a foot delivered a hard foot to my side that hit me with so much force I spun over two times right back into the ground.

"I am getting really tired of you messing everything up," Logan growled through his sharp wolf teeth.

Before I could stop him I found myself in the same position as Elliot was moments ago. Logan straddled my ribs with his crushing weight on me, and his hands pressed into my throat cutting off my air like I dully remember doing to him before darkness overtook me.

My nails started to transform into my wolf's nails and I scratched at his face and arms with all my might, hoping he would just get up.

When I realized that that was not working and my life was fading fast I remembered that I had legs that I could use to knee him where the sun didn't shine.

Slamming my knee into him he cried out like a wounded puppy. One of his hands still crushed down on my throat, hold up his weight.

My hand shot out finding the closest thing it. Falling on a stick I desperately grabbed it. With every bit of strength I had I lodged it into Logan's heart.

Then everything went dark.

The fighting was finally over. When I came back to where I left Sydney my heart rate kicked up seeing she was gone.

I fought my way through the crowd of my pack trying to find my mate, ready to have her in my arms.

"Jaycen!" Mat cried grabbing my arm.

I snarled at him furious that he was interrupting my pursuit in finding Sydney. But when I saw tears in his eyes I knew something was wrong.

"What?" I asked with an edge in my voice.

"I found Sydney."

Without any other words, I followed him to my mate.

Once we broke through the crowd I saw a small group of some of my packmates surrounding her to see if their Luciana was alright.

She was lying there unconscious and no less than five feet away from Logan and Elliot.

Logan was not unconscious. He was dead. A large stick lodged in his chest. Elliot's chest moved very gradually and slowly telling me he wasn't going to last much longer.

Rushing to Sydney's side I saw she was unconscious and covered in Logan's blood. Her neck was purple and yellow with bruising and red blood from cuts had soaked the dirt beneath her head.

Bundling her in my arms I pulled her close and rushed to the car, not sparing a thought about being stark naked.

"Mat, get the car. I'm getting Sydney to help. Where's Robert?" I demanded.

"Sir, he's just found Terrence and is checking him out." A younger wolf said to me.

"Get him to gather up Terrence and tell him we are getting them to a hospital." The wolf nodded and took off running back into the warehouse.

"Luke, tear this place apart and take all prisoners back to the pack cells. I'll call you when I get the chance." I said rushed as I closed in on the car.

"Yes, sir!" Luke called out before turning to shoot out a gamut of random orders.

Mat and I reached the car and he opened the door allowing me to gently place Sydney in the back seat.

Once positive Sydney was comfortable and secure, I grabbed a pair of sweats from the back up we had in the trunk, handing Mat a pair as well.

"Robert's here with Terrence." Mat notified from around the car.

I walked over to them seeing Robert holding his son like a baby in his arms.

Terrence was bloodied and beaten but not as bad as he was in the video. It looked like someone had given him blood to heal.

"Hurry get in the car, I'll drive." Mat said before letting any of us exchange words.

I got in the back and scooped Sydney up in my arms making room for Robert and my best friend.

Mat in the front seat and the rest of us in the back, we speed off as fast as we could to save their lives.

☽✣☾

"Jaycen, you can go in now." The female doctor finally granted.

We had gotten here over four hours ago, and we brought them to the werewolf ward. Together, Sydney and Terrence were wheeled back into surgery for internal bleeding and extensive lacerations. Sydney additionally had collapsed lung.

Terrence had got out no more than a half an hour after we got here, the doctor's saying that the blood saved him. But Sydney on the other hand was in there for over three hours. They had finally got her stable and by then her mother and brother as well her Meg and Em had arrived.

I let Mat do the talking and explaining as I was solely focused on my injured mate that I had still yet to see.

The doctor came out and said that her mother, Silvia, and Aaron could come in and that was all for now. Mat had to help restrain me from yelling at the poor women to let me see my mate.

A scolding from my mother anchored me in my spot.

I only had to stay there for what seemed like hours, only to later realize it had been ten minutes. I ran for Sydney's hospital door the moment they said I could go in. I went to race to her side but Silvia and Aaron's eyes were red with tears.

A frown took hold of my mouth as I walked closer, concerned for my mates well being.

Aaron turned to me, his eyes blotchy from tears. His hair looked overly raked through and his lips trembling.

My heart was racing in fear of what he was about to say.

"What's wrong?" I asked, my voice cracking.

Aaron shook his head. "Jaycen she-she..."

"I asked, what the hell is wrong?!" I growled.

My fist balled and my chest started to heave with harsh breathes.

"She doesn't rememb-"

"Who the hell are you and why are you in my room?" My mate agitatedly said from the bed.

"W-what do you mean? It's me Star." I said easily, pushing to be at her side.

Her brows furrowed and her eyes hardened. "Look buddy, I just woke up from a serious coma-or something like that, and I would appreciate it if I could be alone with my family right now. I don't need some jerk being an ass to me right when I woke up."

My heart pounded away in fear when a thought dawned on me.

I went to grab her hand to give her comfort but I think it was more for me. Clutching her hand I waited for the sparks of recognition in her eyes. Recognition that never came.

Her hand snapped away.

"Syd, you're joking right? I'm Jaycen, your m-"

"I'm only going to ask you nicely one last time. Please leave." She turned her head back to her mother. "Mom, where is dad?"

My heart was racing in pain and all I was thinking was, "No. This isn't happening. This is my mate."

"Sydney, your father's not coming," Silvia whispered heartbrokenly.

Tears glassed in her eyes as she looked to her mom.

"What do you mean he's not coming?! I'm his daughter."

"Sydney..." Aaron choked a tear slipping down his cheek.

"But Sydney I-" I tried speaking.

My head was going to explode.

"I said leave." Her voice was pointed as though I was the least of her worries.

Tears welled in my eyes and it took all of me not to let them shed. "But I love you, you said you loved me." I whispered.

"Well, you certainly have me confused with someone else you freak job. I don't know who you are so get the hell out of my room!" She cried to her mother next, "Mom I want dad! Where the is he? Why won't you guys tell me?"

Silence cloaked the room before Sydney's mother answered her.

"Sydney, your fathers dead," Silvia said most bitter.

Sydney froze and looked to stop breathing.

I ran and placed a hand on her chest and cradled her head as if I could save her life, make her breath again.

Then Sydney snapped and slapped, hit, and clawed at me screaming.

"Get off of me!" She screamed. "Get off of me!"

I jumped away still not understanding.

W-why doesn't s-she want us t-to comfort her? My wolf cried.

A sob escaped Sydney as if she was dying all over again.

Aaron and Silvia wrapped Sydney in comforting hugs.

"Jaycen, come on." A voice said from behind me.

I looked to Mat and saw his eyes were teary as well.

Turning I left my mate.

My mate that didn't remember me.

My mate that didn't want me.

My mate that didn't who didn't love me.

My broken white wolf. My broken Star.
