Noah opened his closet and began to pack his clothes. He had made up his mind. He was going toâ
"Noah...?"
Noah whipped his head and saw his elder brother by the bedroom door.
"Chris? What are you doing here?"
Chris' jet black eyes stared at the luggage and clothes on Noah's hands, "A...are you gonna go somewhere?"
Noah licked his lips, "I..." H let out a sigh and ran his hand over his hair.
"Close the door."
Chris closed the door. He gave Noah a worried look and sat at the edge of the bed, "What's wrong?"
Chris would have inherit the company but he was just assigned as the head of the design department, yet he never held a grudge against Noah and schemed against him. Instead Chris was always there for him and supported him.
Chris was Noah's biggest pillar whenever he was bullied by his other brother. Chris would be there ready to flick Justin's forehead and calm a small crying Noah.
When their mother died, Chris pushed his pain aside and comforted a mourning Noah. Noah felt extremely lucky to have Chris. He knew Chris would understand the decision he had took.
"I want to leave the company," Noah admitted, "I don't want to marry Clover, I have someone else."
Chris's eyebrows rose towards his hairline,"Noah, you are getting engaged with her in five days."
"I know," Noah said, feeling dejected, "But the Xiao's want their daughter to marry me because I am the CEO of the company, if I resign from my post then I am no one, the Xiao family will not be interested in me."
Chris pursed his lips into a thin line and studied his brother, "Who is the girlâ"
"I love a guy," Noah cut in.
"A guy." Chris repeated dumbly.
None of them spoke as the silence thicken. Both brother's looked at each other waiting for someone to break the silence. Noah avoided his brother's eyes ready to get lectured. He tightly closed his eyes when Chris cleared his throat.
But Chris asked something that surprised Noah.
"This guy...would he love you even if you leave the company? Are you sure he is not after your money?"
"No, he won't leave me,"Noah said in a heart beat, June's face popping in his mind, Noah immediately felt himself smiling when he remembered June saying he would marry him with a ring from Walmart.
Noah smiled more widely. Chris didn't tell anything about how wrong it is for a man to be together with another man instead he was just concerned about the guy he claimed to live would turn out to be a gold digger. He gave his brother a grateful smile.
Chris nodded. He observed his brother with silent eyes. Noah had always hid his pain and anger behind wide smiles and loud voice. He was never easy to read but right now Chris would read him like a open book and Noah's eyes looked deep and soulful unlike the fake sparkle he put on. Chris would see that the fake sparkles in Noah's tired eye had been replaced with a genuine one.
Chris smiled, his baby brother had finally found happiness.
"I will support you with whatever makes you happy," he paused, a frown etching his handsome face, "What about dad?"
"I will talk with him," Noah said, as he dropped his clothes in the luggage.
"So," Chris said, looking at the open luggage, "Are you gonna go right away?"
Noah scoffed, "I don't think Dad would be thrilled to know his son is a gay."
"Right," Chris nodded, "Just know I will be there for you, if you ever need my help."
"I know," Noah smiled.
Chris stood up, "I came to say the dinner is ready, everyone is waiting for you let's go."
Noah nodded, "Let me finish packing."
With Chris's help , Noah finsihed packing his clothes and necessities. After they were done, he left the luggage on his bed to get it after he talked with his father.
Chris and Noah walked down to the dining room. The head of the Xiao family was quietly talking with his father whistle Clover and her mother talked.
When Chris and Noah approached the large dinning table all heads turned towards them
"Sorry, I was late," Noah said and pulled out his chair, "I had an important call," he smoothly lied.
"It's alright dear," Mrs.Xiao said. She was an older version of Clover expect she had dark hair which was twisted into an elegant bun. Her red lips stretched into a sickly sweet smile, showing off her pearly white teeth. Noah politely nodded and took his seat beside his father.
The dinner felt excruciatingly long as the family discussed about the engagement party. They talked about throwing a huge New Year's party to announce the engagement.
Mrs.Xiao was like a nouveau richie, who went on and on about how lavish the party was going to be. Clover kept quite the whole time and occasionally talked. She was still thinking about June and Noah. She assured herself that if Noah is here then it means they already broke up. And Noah hadn't cancelled the engagement, which was a good sign.
After dinner, Noah finally managed to wriggle his way out of Mrs.Xiao's clutches who was going on about all the families they are going to invite for the wedding. She talked about how they were going to have a spring wedding and the theme of the wedding. She even dared to ask, Noah if he would wear a pink suit similar to the cherry blossoms.
Pink suit? Noah sneered mentally as he excused himself from her, "Please excuse me, Mrs.Xiao, I need to talk with Clover for a while."
The thought of Noah seeking her daughter personally was enough for Mrs.Xiao to agree immediately. Noah quickly got up, "Clover let's go somewhere private, there is something I want to discuss."
Clover got up and followed Noah, who led her to his bedroom. When she entered the room, she saw the packed luggage on the bed and immediately realised what was going on.
"No!" She screamed.
Noah looked back at her with raised eyebrows.
"Noah Zang, you can't do this to me!" Clover yelled as she gripped Noah's collar.
Noah held Clover's wrist and pushed her hands away. His cold gaze was enough for Clover push down all the arguments and protest bubbling in her throat.
"Stay away from June," he spoke in a low voice but it spoke volumes. She knew he was warning about all the dirty tricks she could pull to separate them.
"Don't break the engagement!" Clover pleaded.
Noah sighed, "The news about our engagement is not released yet, I will talk with my dad and Chris, they will sign a partnership with your company. It should be enough."
Clover blinked, "What do you mean Chris will? Where are you going?"
"I am leaving the company," Noah simply said. He somehow had a feeling that Clover was not going to drop it so easily. Is she still in love with June?
Clover looked at Noah with furrowed eyebrows. She clenched her hands,"F...for June?"
Noah just gave a nod not liking the way she spoke June's name.
Clover averted her eyes from Noah and she stared at the floor, "June broke up with me even after I said that we would still stay together after my marriage, but he didn't asked you to break up." she looked at Noah,"Why?"
Noah felt like Clover had asked this question to herself a lot of time,but never found the answer to it. He sighed,"He wanted to break up with me,"he said.
Clover gave Noah with a questioning look.
"But I love him,"Noah said. He straighten up and he stared down Clover. He made sure to hold her gaze so she knows how genuine he was, "I love him over everything else, the money , the estate and the company. I love him more than those things. And I am willing to leave everything I have if it means being with June."
"You loved June I can sayâ" Noah confessed begrudgingly, "â but you did not loved him enough, you still cared about wealth and somewhere deep down the fact that June is not rich enough, bothered you."
Clover looked down again, feeling like Noah just slapped her. His words were so blunt and honest, Clover realised her mistake.
She lost someone who could love her unconditionally and give her happiness that was not materialistic. She felt her chest clench painfully as her eyes teared up.
"If that answered your question," Noah said as he opened his bedroom door and stood by the doorway, "I hope you will stay away from us."
