Chapter 29 It Should Be Settled The corners of Williamâs mouth curled up into a smile. He spoke unhurriedly, âYour mother is dead. Her necklace is still with me.
It was her dowry back then.â Emily was suspicious. There must be something wrong with him suddenly asking her to go back.
Was this necklace a lie? âWhy should I believe you?â
She frowned and asked, clenching her phone. âIf you donât believe me, you can go and ask your grandmother. She will give you the answer. I will send you the wedding invitation.â Williamâs expression was sinister, and his eyes flashed with victory.
Emily hung up the phone and ran to Lucyâs bedroom.
Lucy was humming a song and patching some clothes. âGrandmother, I want to ask you something.â Emily pushed open the door and got straight to the point. Lucy stopped what she was doing and looked at her. âEmily, ask away.â Emilyâs expression was serious as if it were something very important. âWilliam said that my motherâs dowry, a necklace, is with him. He told me to go get it. Is there such a necklace?â Lucy nodded. âThere is indeed such a dowry. When I was young, your grandfather gave it to me. Later, when your mother got married, I gave it to her.â When she said this, she looked a little nostalgic. âWhen did he ask you to go get it?â Emily clenched her fists. âNext Wednesday, the day of Mia and Charlesâ wedding.â Lucy thought for a moment and said cautiously, âIâm afraid this matter is not that simple. When Evelyn died, your father did not give you this necklace, but heâs asking you to go get it now so you will go to the wedding. Iâm afraid that itâs some kind of trap. You better not go.â
At the wedding, Emily would probably be humiliated. Emily shook her head. âItâs okay. Iâll go get the necklace and leave. Iâll be careful not to let others see me. Iâll be in and out quickly, they wonât have a chance to get me.â This necklace was the only relic left by her mother.
It was very important to her and her grandmother. She had to get it back. Lucy looked at her worriedly. âWhy donât we just forget about it?â The necklace was important, but a living person was more important. She didnât want Emily and the Armstrong family to have any further contact. Emily said firmly, âI have made up my mind. Grandmother, Iâll be okay.â Lucy had no choice but to give up and helplessly reminded her, âThen be careful.â Emily nodded with a calm expression. However, her heart was not as relaxed as she thought. On the day of the wedding, she still had to watch Charles marry someone else. They had been childhood friends. Sheâd never imagined that he would betray her like this.
Yet, heâd turned and abandoned her without a second word and gotten engaged to her step-sister. Emily couldnât forget or forgive it. Alright, it had been six years. It was time to settle things once and for all! In the blink of an eye, a week passed. During this period of time, Emily had been spending all her time in the medicine garden, relaxing her mood. She got a call, and the caller ID showed that it was Mr. Hawking. âMs. Armstrong, for a stomach ache, what acupuncture points should I target?â She didnât know whether to laugh or cry. During this period of time, Mr. Hawking called her many times and asked her about acupuncture points.
âThree inches below the neck, two inches below the navel.â She replied helplessly. Mr. Hawking continued to dig deeper, âHow can these acupuncture points cure stomach pain? What acupuncture points are they?â âI donât know either. Thatâs what Master taught me.â She had given herself away and let Mr. Hawking know that she knew ancient medical skills.
He kept asking questions. It seemed that he wanted to know more about ancient medical skills.
She could only selectively answer a few here and there. Mr. Hawking changed the topic. âMs. Armstrong, how did you cultivate those rare medicinal herbs?â She rolled her eyes. âAccording to the cultivation method of ordinary medicinal herbs.â
âWhat is the medicinal theory of their effects?â âI donât know. I just simply know what medicine to use on what disease.â Hearing that Mr. Hawking was still curious, Emily simply ended the conversation, âMr. Hawking, letâs talk about it in the future. I have an urgent matter here, so Iâll hang up first.â
These days, Mr. Hawking repeatedly probed and asked her about the medicinal herbs. She couldnât do anything to get out of it.
Shaking her head, she continued to water the herbs.
At the same time, in Country F, Lucas busied himself for a week to deal with all kinds of business matters.
He rubbed his eyes and continued to study the documents in his hand. He used a pen to make annotations. Mason asked with concern, âYoung Master Greens, rest for a while. Iâm afraid your health will suffer.â
Lucas waved his hand. âIâm fine. This is the last document. We can return to China as soon as we finish.â
The medicine given by Emily was very effective.
After he finished taking them, his chest did not hurt again. Especially after taking the medicinal bath, he slept well every night, and his spirit was very good the next day. âYoung Master Greens, it seems that Ms. Armstrongâs treatment is still effective. When we return to the country, we have to continue the treatment.â Mason smiled, he had observed all the changes in Lucasâ health.
Lucas did not comment and yawned.
He did not rest much this week.
In addition, there was still the injury on his shoulder. He was still stressing his body.
