10. A Huge Storm
Tracyâs words left Lucas confused, prompting a glance in the direction Heidi had taken. Tarnishing GK Groupâs reputation meant potential destruction for the company. What benefit could Heidi gain from such an act? Even if she were to share such damaging information with the media, what could she possibly stand to gain from such an act?
âYouâre worrying too much,â Lucas assured Tracy. âI donât think Heidi is capable of that.â
Tracy paused. She fiddled with her hands while her heart burned inside.
âB-But, Lucas,â she quickly regained her pitiful look, âThen how do you think the paparazzi got the news that we were going to attend the business dinner together?â
Holding his hand, she continued, âThe only people who knew youâd bring a female companion to the party were you and your parents. And the name on the party list was supposed to be Heidiâs.â
âDoesnât it make sense that Heidi plans to retaliate out of jealousy? And her only target will be GK Group. Thatâs the only way she can hurt you.â
Lucas clenched his fists, his eyes flashing with a realization that shook him to the core. That woman. Why did he underestimate her in the past?
Like a passing wind, Lucas left the place, leaving Tracy baffled.
Watching Lucas disappear in the direction Heidi took, Tracyâs eyes glinted with mischief, and she smirked.
At the hospitalâs lobbyâ¦
Heidi was speaking on the phone when rushed footsteps came from behind. Before she could register it, something hard gripped her hand.
âAh!â Heidi yelped as the man spun her around. âY-You.â Her heart raced, and she hung up.
Lucas glared at her, and she glared back, wondering what the hell was wrong with him. âMr. Harrison, let me go.â She wriggled her hand to free it from his grasp.
Assessing the crowdâs attention drawn by her scream, Lucas pulled her away. Hey, let me go!â Heidi was half- running as she tried to match up with his large strides. âLucas, what is wrong with you?â
Lucas only stopped when they reached a narrow hallway out of peopleâs sight. He dragged her into a storage room and shut the door.
âWhatever crazy idea you are having in your head, youâd better put a halt to it, Heidi. GK Group is the last thing you would ever want to mess with.â
Taking deep breaths to steady herself, Heidi wondered what she had done this time. âMr. Harrison, Iâm not a punching bag. If youâre so frustrated and fed up with life, donât you know the way to the gym?â
âYou-â Lucas placed his palms on the wall, trapping her in-between. However, Heidi refused to cower, meeting his glare with calm defiance. Since when did she become sharp- tongued? The Heidi he knew would never talk back at him.
âI am warning you, Heidi. You wouldnât want to see the bad side of me.â
âYou mean a worse side than this? Mr. Harrison, unless youâre going to turn into a monster, literally, Iâve seen the bad side of you already,â Heidi retorted, pushing him away.
As she moved to leave, Lucas grabbed her hand. âWho did you call a monster?â
Heidi ended up crashing into his body from the impact. Her heart skipped a beat before it resumed racing at a wilder rate.
Lucas paused, realizing what he had done; his hand tightened around her waist, and his throat was suddenly dry. His eyes fell on her lips, and they accidentally strayed down to the exposed flesh on her chest.
âL-Let me go.â Heidi wanted to push away, yet her hands seemed to have lost their strength.
âI am asking you⦠Who did you call a monster?â Lucasâs voice was strangely hoarse and raspy.
His face was dangerously close, causing their breaths to mix. Her chest heaved up and down heavily, and his eyes were glued to that spot.
The office suit she wore wasnât too tight, but it did a perfect job of showcasing her curves. This was a departure from her usual style; her dresses were mostly loose, at times too concealing. Not only had she transformed into a fierce woman, but her fashion sense had also undergone a noticeable change.
Since when did she start wearing makeup? The rosy tint on her lips couldnât be her natural color, could it?
Amidst the lingering scent of disinfectants and drugs, a more prominent flowery fragrance wafted through his senses. Was the scent coming from her?
The temperature inside the room became more and more tense. While the man stared at her in a trance, Heidi was simply dumbfounded.
Then suddenly, her phone rang, breaking them both out of the spell. Heidi staggered out of his embrace and stared at the phoneâs screen.
Zachâs name flashed on the screen, and she quickly answered it.
âHeidi, are you alright? Why did you hang up in the middle of the talk?â
âOh, sorry about that. What were you saying?â
âYou must hurry back to the company. A huge storm is about to break out.â
With that said, Zach hung up.
