26. The Biggest Jerk of All Time
At The Olsens Mansion.
Grandpa Jeffrey waited until the doctor left before he picked up his cane and grabbed Zach, who was near him.
âAh! Grandpa, Ouch!â Zach wailed. â Grandpa, wait â Ah! What did I do wrong?â
âYou donât know what you did wrong?â Grandpa Jeffrey beat him harder. âWhy did you endanger Heidiâs life?â
âDad, is it Zachâs fault?â Beatrice spoke up, stepping between the old man and her son. âIsnât Heidi an adult? Zach didnât force her to attend the party.â
âYou!â Grandpa Jeffrey looked displeased.
âMum, stop worsening matters,â Zach whispered to her. âYeah, I feel guilty for inviting Heidi, but itâs her scumbag ex-husbandâs fault.â
âShut up! You know Heidiâs condition, why would you let her fall inside the pool?â
âGrandpa!â
Heidi, who was unconscious on the bed, opened her eyes from the commotion.
She gasped for breath and shuffled up, her wide eyes darting across the room.
Grandpa Jeffrey pushed Zach aside and sat beside her.
âHow do you feel now, Heidi? Tell Grandpa where is paining you.â
Grandpa Jeffrey pulled her into a hug, his voice filled with guilt. âIâve warned you not to mingle with your silly cousin, Zach. Now see what has happened.â
âGrandpa, I said Iâm sorry.â Zach pursed his lips. âI didnât intend for that to happen-â
âWill saying sorry reverse the time and stop Heidi from falling into the water? Why are you irresponsible- I heard you invited that boy, her ex-husband!â
Grandpa Jeffreyâs anger hit the ceiling.
Ten years ago, Heidi had been brought back home from school with this strange illness.
She not only lost her ability to swim, she was even scared to go near the pool.
None of the family members saw that coming, and to this day, they didnât know what caused it.
Despite Grandpa Jeffrey looking hard into the matter and even threatening the school staff, none admitted to knowing what happened.
âGrandpa, please calm down. Iâm fine,â Heidi said softly, ignoring her headache.
âAre you sure youâre fine? Donât worry, Grandpa will get justice for you.â
Hearing Grandpa Jeffreyâs words, Heidi was moved to tears. âJust let it go, Grandpa. Donât let it bother you, your health matters.â
âBut promise me youâll never go near that boy again.â
Heidi pursed her lips and looked down. Her jewelry was still in Lucasâs hands. The man had also haunted her life.
How would she be okay if she didnât seek justice for herself?
âUhm, Grandpa. I wonât.â
âGood girl.â Grandpa Jeffrey left, dragging Zach out of the room with him.
Beatrice saw no reason to remain standing there, feeling greatly offended that Grandpa Jeffrey pinned all the blame on her son.
âHeidi, I know that look.â Regina was standing in a corner all this time. âWhy are you so stubborn? Will you not leave that guy alone? Is he the only man on earth?â
âMum, he has my jewelry,â Heidi murmured, pulling her legs to support her chin. âI promised Grandpa Winston to keep that jewelry forever. I have to get it back.â
âYou!â Her mother glared at her. âAre you now beyond saving, Heidi? Why wonât you stay away from that family?â
âBut the jewelry-â
âThe jewelry doesnât matter. You almost lost your life for goodness sake!â Her mother came forward and flicked her on the forehead, hoping it would make her come back to her senses.
âOuch! Mum, it hurts.â Heidi pouted, using that opportunity to hug her mother. âIf youâre worried that I still love Lucas, to hell with him! He pushed me inside the pool and Iâm never gonna forgive him.â
âHavenât you said similar things in the past? Remember that time you broke your leg in college. You promised never to go near him.â
âThat is different now. Wonât you have faith in me, Mum!?â Heidi whined, acting spoiled.
Regina had long lost faith in her daughter since the day Heidi started high school.
Other kids returned home and spoke about their first experiences, but the first thing she mentioned was, âMum, Dad, Iâve found my true love.â 1
A series of events happened after that. Heidi literally became obsessed with that guy from the Harrisons Household, even calling out his name in her sleep.
Rumors had it that he was as cold as the ice mountain and crushed everyone that crossed his path.
Regina and her husband didnât want their daughter to marry someone like him. Only Grandpa Jeffrey supported Heidi.
Well, Heidi promised that sheâd win his affection no matter what, making a bet to hide her identity so he would fall for the normal girl she was.
What did she get in the end?
A brutal divorce!
âLet go of me, youâre not a baby.â
Noticing that Heidi was still hugging her, Regina pulled away.
âCome back, Mum! Arenât I your only baby?â
After her mother left, Heidiâs spoilt expression turned into a bitter one.
Her mind flashed to the swimming pool incident.
How ridiculous.
The man, whom sheâd risked her life saving ten years ago, didnât think twice before pushing her into the water.
âLucas Harrison, arenât you the biggest jerk of all time?â
