48. Threatening His Own Father
At an unknown location⦠The night was gradually settling in, the chilly evening wind breezing through the open windows.
Bundled up in a corner with both hands tightened with a rope, Heidi opened her eyes to the indistinct voices of men.
Large men wearing dark clothes with masks⦠why did they look familiar?
âWhat should we do with her when she wakes up?â
âMaster hasnât given any instruction yet.â
âWhy donât we just get rid of her?â
âI donât think it will settle well with the master, Letâs wait for his instruction.â
âWe can just kill her and throw her inside the sea.â
âWhy are you so eager to kill her?â
As the masked men conversed among themselves, Heidi became widely awake, alarmingly aware of her surroundings.
Listening to their discussion, a sudden anxiety gripped her chest.
The men were so busy arguing with each other that they didnât notice that she was awake. Heidi let the fear seep in, pulling rein on her emotions in order not to give herself out.
Calming down her erratic beating heart, her eyes accessed the well- furnished room with big couches and wall decorations.
On a table nearby, the contents of her bag were scattered and there was also her phone. Heidi threw a cautious glance at the men who were still arguing.
Slowly and carefully, she wriggled her hands until the rope loosened gradually. After successfully unbinding herself, Heidi shifted towards the wide table without making even a subtle sound.
On reaching there, she hid under the table, out of the menâs view, then she reached her hands up for the phone.
On grabbing the phone successfully, Heidi turned it on and found several missed calls. Not only from Lucas, but also from her assistant, Isla.
For how long had she slept?
Heidiâs heart thumped rapidly, remembering how sheâd literally been taken unaware when someone grabbed her from behind, holding a strange hankie with a sweet fragrance to her nose.
Heidi had been kidnapped several times in the past, so she wasnât foreign to these kinds of things.
But this was the first time her kidnappers contemplated whether to kill her or not. With her hands shaking, she instinctively dialed Lucasâs number which was at the top of her call history.
Heidiâs heart pounded with anticipation while the phone rang.
âGuys, where is she?â The panicked voice of one of the men startled her.
âWasnât she sleeping in a corner?â
âDamnit! Iâve found her.â Heavy footsteps approached and stopped in front of the table.
A huge man towered over her, glaring at her. âWhat are you doing?â
Heidi had already cut the call, but the man seized the phone from her.
âHow brazen of you. Who did you want to call?â
Not only did he snatch the phone, he also tapped into it as if investigating.
Other men gathered around.
âI told you we should use a stronger rope. What if she managed to escape?â
âThis building has strong security. Thereâs no way she can escape.â
While the men spoke, the phone rang on its own.
They all quietened down and stared at the contactâs display name.
Strangely, the menâs eyes widened with horror when they saw who was calling.
At the Villa.
Lucas straightened up on the couch, his eyes narrowing at the phoneâs screen.
Heâd been trying her number for the whole day with no response. Yet, as she finally called him back, she also hung up shortly.
Was Heidi in trouble?
Lucas dialed her number for the last time. This time, her phone was switched off.
There was no doubt that Heidi had offended someone, and that person was keen on dealing with her.
Standing up, Lucas grabbed his carâs keys and raced out of the Villa.
At The Harrisonâs Mansion.
Blake Harrison and Stella were in their quarters, enjoying an early dinner.
The dining area echoed with Stellaâs laughter as they chatted happily.
Then a chilling air came from the door, making the couple starkly aware of an impending danger.
Stella was the first to notice Lucas. Ignoring his dangerous look, she got up from her chair and faked a surprised look.
âWhat a splendid surprise. Although your visit is unexpected, Blake and I are greatly touched. Did you come to join us for dinner?â
Lucas glared at her. âWhat did you do to Heidi?â
âHuh?â Stella faked a shocked look. â Which Heidi? What do you mean?â
âDonât think you can play with my intelligence. The voice cloning, the jewelry thief, and now Heidiâs nowhere to be found.â
Lucas didnât want to waste words arguing with the overly pretentious woman.
âJust tell me where she is.â
âYou-â Stella parted her lips, her eyes dampening with tears. âHow could you accuse me, Lucas? Do you think I have a hand in kidnapping Heidi?â
âHow did you know she was kidnapped?â
âEnough, Son.â Blake Harrison stood up. âStella is your stepmother, show some respect. How can you accuse her of doing such things?â
âIâm not accusing her, Dad. After the recent happenings, who else can be more than capable of hurting Heidi?â
âI swear I didnât do anything.â Stella looked at Blake with teary eyes. âWeâve been together the whole day, did you notice me doing anything suspicious? What will I gain out of kidnapping Heidi?â
âI believe you, Stella. Donât worry, heâs going to apologize to you.â Tension rose as both father and son looked mad.
Returning his attention to Lucas, Blake ordered, âApologize to Stella now. It is wrong to accuse the innocent.â
âAlthough Heidi and I are separating, it gives you no right to harm her. If she doesnât appear in the morning, donât blame me for taking action.â
With that said, Lucas turned around and left. Blake stared at his back with furious eyes, while Stella appeared fearful. â Honey, did he just threaten us?â
âHow dare he threaten his own father? That girl has surely corrupted my Son!â
