Chapter 401 Come With Me To The Hospital âOkay.â Xavier did not ask for details, but he could make a vague guess nevertheless.
Immediately, he phoned Wilhelm. Very soon, the two men started discussing their Alendor trip.
When they were about to be done with their discussion, another call came in on Xavierâs phone.
The moment Wilhelm heard Xavierâs phone ringing, he concluded the phone call very quickly without taking up too much of Xavierâs time.
However, Xavier did not pick up his phone after putting down Winnieâs phone.
Winnie found it strange. âWhatâs wrong? Why arenât you answering your phone?â
Xavier frowned before replying, âItâs my dad. Iâm supposed to have a transnational conference with him tomorrow, but Iâve told Louis to cancel it. He must have received the news. Iâll go out and answer the call.
You go ahead and take a rest first.â
As Xavier was talking, he picked up his phone.
Winnie grabbed his arm when he was about to leave.
âAre you worried that your dad will talk badly about me during your conversation?â
Xavier grunted softly in acknowledgment. âHe wonât have anything nice to say. Lie down and rest first. Iâll be back in a short while.â
âAll right.â Winnie was well aware that Xavier would get into an argument with his dad because of her.
That was why she did not force him to stay with her. âI donât wish to damage the relationship between you and your dad. Therefore, I think itâs better that you donât take to heart everything he says.â
âI know. Donât worry about it. I want you to lie down now! Thatâs an order!â
âFine. Iâll do as you say.â Winnie chuckled when she heard the word âorder.â She lifted the blanket and lay down on the bed.
Xavier only left after he adjusted her pillow and left a passionate kiss on her lips.
Not long after he walked away, Winnie could hear his deep, angry voice.
âYes⦠I have to go because the company will still operate as usual without me being there. However, the same cannot be said for this matter! I have to do this myself!â
After a pause, he continued, âDad, enough. You have never treated Mom seriously, so please donât expect me to be like you and treat my wife the same way. Iâm not you.â
There was another pause. âYou donât feel Momâs pain, but I can. I never want to become another you!
Never!â
As Xavier walked further away, Winnie could no longer hear his end of the conversation anymore.
However, that was the first time Winnie heard Xavier mention his mother.
Judging from what I overheard, his father did not treat him and his mom too well. The atmosphere at home must not have been good during his younger years. That explains the cool relationship between father and son.
After Xavier left for his trip, Josiah came over to mooch a few meals from Winnie.
That day, Josiah had even brought a chef with him.
He said to Winnie, âBefore Xavier left, he told me to look after your health and everything else since Iâm your private doctor. That includes your daily meals.â
Winnie took a sip of her water before saying, âIs this why you hired a chef specially for me? So, the chef will continue to cook for me until Xavier returns?â
âYou wish! Tsk! Heâs a renowned chef who prepares state banquets, and I promise you that you have never even heard of most of the dishes he has made. Most people wonât be able to hire him. The waiting list is as long as a few years. Iâm capable enough to cut the queue and get him to come for just one time only. Thereâs no way I can keep the chef here until Xavier comes back. Thatâs beyond my capabilities.
Youâll have to get Xavier to do that as heâs much more powerful than I am!â
Winnie did not expect the chef to be so sought-after. Her eyes widened, and she said, âI didnât expect this at all. However, Iâm not particular when it comes to food. Thereâs no need to spend so much.
Regardless, I still want to thank you for the state banquet. Oh, please remember to take some photos later. Iâm sure the food arrangement will be magnificent.â
âSure. My photography skill is the best.â
To that, Winnie frowned. âItâs a bit exaggerating to call your photography skill the best. By the way, I need a favor from you.â
âPlease donât say that!â Josiah pretended to be flattered by her request. âMs. Garland, just let me know what you need me to do.â
Winnie was speechless for a moment. She could not be bothered to banter with him, so she went straight to the point. âOld Mr. Xander has introduced a doctor to me, and we are meeting him tomorrow.
Initially, he wanted to bring me there himself, but two days ago, he came down with the flu, and it seems quite serious. As such, he canât come with me. I hope you can come with me instead. Will you be available tomorrow?â
Without any hesitation, Josiah answered, âOf course.â
The next day, Josiah took Winnie to the hospital.
They were not at the Houghton familyâs hospital, so not everything went smoothly. They did not receive any special treatment either.
Even Josiah had to do a bit of running around.
Once everything was settled, he then went to the lobby to fetch Winnie.
âIt turns out that weâre at the wrong place. This side is for the modern medicine doctors. For the traditional medicine doctors, we will have to go to another building, but it isnât very far away from here.
Will you be able to walk there?â
âSure.â Winnie could hear that he was panting, so she said, âThereâs no need to be in such a rush. Why donât you sit down and take a rest first?â
âIâm not tired. Letâs go.â With that, he turned to Mary and reminded her, âHold her properly. Itâs quite crowded here.â
Afterward, he turned around and started leading the way.
As he walked, he told Winnie, âI saw someone just now, but Iâm not sure if my eyes were playing tricks on me.â
âOh?â Winnie asked, âWho is it? Do I know the person?â
âYes, you do.â Josiah pushed his glasses up before continuing, âI think it was Nate, but Iâm not too sure.
That person went into the cardiology department. As far as I know, Nate doesnât have any heart issues.â
Their conversation started to revolve around Nate. âThat guy has been a bit too quiet recently. Despite being a young idol, he doesnât even seem to work anymore.â
Winnie raised her brows. âPerhaps heâs taking a hiatus now. Their job isnât that easy after all.â
What she did not mention was that Nate did have a heart problem.
However, she had promised Nate not to tell anyone about his condition.
Therefore, she did not share Nateâs illness with Josiah. Besides, she did not have many social interactions with Nate, nor was she particularly interested in his affairs.
To her surprise, she bumped into Nate when she was done seeing the doctor.
At that moment, Josiah was heading to the parking lot to get the car, and Nate spotted her from the end of the corridor.
