Fellow Travellers to Zubura
Hikaru decided to bring the Dimension Dragon Letter Box on the trip. As for the dragon stone he got from the Earth Dragon, he planned to leave it at home since he had no idea how to use it just yet. He was worried about a burglar breaking into their home and stealing it, but it was much scarier if he brought it along and it got smashed. Looks like itâll be difficult to find a use for these things... Hikaru thought.
Selica arrived one sunny morning, when the temperature was warmer than usual. It had been a few days since Hikaru last saw her.
ãAll right! Letâs go see the ruins in Zubura!ãshe said.
ã.........ã
ãLetâs go!ã
ãWait a minute.ã
Selica was standing by the street, while Hikaru pressed his middle finger to his forehead.
ãI did say we were going to Zubura.ã
ãYeah! So letâs go!ã
ãWhat are those three doing here?ã
Selica came with Selyse, Sarah, and Sophie. Selyse wore an unreadable, refreshing smile, Sarah was grinning, and Sophie was somewhat frowning.
ãI told them Iâll be fine alone, but they wanted to come. Theyâre overprotective.ãSelica said.
ãIt sure doesnât feel like that. Iâm sure theyâre plotting something.ã
ãReally?ã
ãWhat did you tell them?ã
ãI told them Iâm going with you to Zubura and that there might be relics left behind by Japanese people.ã
ãThatâs it. Theyâre just incredibly curious about Japanese technology.ã
Although that didnât seem to apply to Sophie.
ãGood morning, Hikaru-sama!ã
ãMorning, Paula. Oh, you already brought your stuff.ã
Paula was carrying a travelling bag just big enough for both her hands.
ãYes. Selica dropped by the inn and told me.ã
ãAh, makes sense.ã
ãLady Paula.ãSophie cut in.ãLetâs have a nice chat on our long journey, okay?ã
ãHuh?! S-Sophie Bloomfield?! And the rest of the Four Stars!ã
Paula wasnât aware that the rest of the ladies tagged along. Hikaru realized Sophie wanted to come because she was curious about Paula who possessed similar healing powers as her.
Paulaâs healing is much more powerful than hers, though.
Hikaru didnât plan on telling Sophie that. He already warned Paula not to say anything as well.
ãHikaru, why donât you invite her inâãLavia came down, and frowned as soon as she noticed the whole member of the Four Stars were present.
ãFor the record, this isnât my fault.ãHikaru said.
ãI know, but... I wonder if weâll fit in the carriage.ã
ãDo we need a second one?ã
ãItâs fine! Seven people should fit in a large carriage!ã
ãActually, we have one more company.ãn/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Katy arrived a bit later. She was glad that the Four Stars of the East were coming, as it meant a safer journey. Even researchers like Katy knew about the ladies, apparently.
There was one problem, however.
ãSo whatâs the Professor doing here?ãHikaru asked.
Katy brought Mille along.
ãI told you Iâm going so Iâm going!ãMille said.
ãYouâll just get in the way.ã
ãIt actually hurts when you say it with a straight face, you know!ã
ãAt this point, seven or eight doesnât make a difference! Weâll just squeeze everyone into the carriage!ã
Selica was being absurd. A trip to Zubura took four days. Crammed inside a carriage that long would be too much.
ãNo can do.ãHikaru said.
ãWhy not?!ã
ãIâm the only guy around. The rest of you are women. Be more considerate, will you?ã
ãI didnât know you were a pervy brat!ã
ãDonât call me that. Iâll tell them about the Calorie Mate diet.ã
ãWhat?!ã
ãI thought I heard something interesting just now.ãSarah cut in.
ãH-Hey! Go away, Sarah!ãSelica protested.
ãAnyway, we need two carriages. Your whole party can use one.ãHikaru added.
ãI want to ride with Lady Paula.ã
ãAnd I want to talk to Hikaru about our home country!ã
ãNo. Iâm not giving you Paula.ãHikaru told Sophie. ãAnd we wonât be talking about that all the time, Selica. You donât have to be in the same carriage as me.ã
ãMy, my...ã
Sophieâs eyes narrowed, while Selica pouted.
ãI expected something like this, so I prepared a mega carriage.ãKaty uttered an unfamiliar word.
ãWhatâs that?ã
ãA carriage than carry at least ten people. Kotobi developed it recently. Eight people should be enough. Ah, you donât have to worry about the money since Iâm the one who prepared it. In exchange, please allow Mille to come.ã
ãThatâs Professor Katy for you!ãMille was ecstatic.
ãI donât understand why youâre helping out Professor Mille.ã
ãIâm a woman, after all. I will support my fellow women.ã
ãWha... Please donât say anything weird!ãMille cried, turning red.
Does Professor Mille like Katy? Ah, I see. That makes sense. Thatâs why she insisted on coming when Katy said she was going to Zubura.
ãI didnât know, Professor.ãHikaru said, his eyes warm and gentle.ãItâs going to be rough, but good luck.ã
ãHikaru? Why are you looking at me like that?ã
ãAnyway, weâll bring down our stuff.ã
Hikaru and Lavia returned to their room to get their luggage.
ãDid we forget anything?ãLavia asked.
ãHaha. We donât really have much stuff in the first place.ã
ãI thought this place didnât have a lived-in feel to it. Itâs because of the lack of personal belongings.ã
ãWe should buy some.ã
After a final check, Hikaru locked the door. They might be gone for at least a month, but surprisingly he wasnât worried. In fact, he felt exhilarated.
ãI get it.ãHikaru said.ãWeâre not running away or trying to survive. Itâs my first time feeling like weâre on an actual trip.ã
ãSame here. I didnât say anything about it, but I was really looking forward to this trip that I felt like skipping.ã
ãYou? Skipping? Just make sure you donât trip and fall over.ã
ã.........ã
ãOuch!ã
Lavia elbowed him. Hikaru realized she was now able to make jokes about her past as a caged bird. Hikaru jumped down the last two steps of stairs, the travelling bag heavy in his hand.
