Chapter 12

"You almost killed us by going that fast!" Callum said out of breath as he climbed off my back.

It was honestly really delightful to see the guy, who wasn't afraid of a werewolf, scared of running through the forest on one. His horrified screams still echoed in my ears like a melodious tune.

"I swear Ev, we're never doing that again." He scolded as he faced me.

I gave him a wolfish grin before using my head to push him out of trees and towards the packhouse.

As soon as I was out of his sight, I shifted and grabbed a change of clothes that we had strapped to trees for moments this these.

When I pulled on my t-shirt, I walked into the backyard to see Callum missing.

I was not in the mood to go running after this idiot again, so I thank the Moon Goddess when I saw him strolling out of the back door with a pair of converse in hand.

My black chuck taylor.

"How'd you know that was mine?" I asked curiously since this pair was in our mudroom at the entrance of the back door.

"I was going by the initials 'EB' written with a white sharpie." He smirked as I took the pair of shoes out of his hands.

I was honestly surprised by his actions. I guess he really did want to try this trust thing.

"Thank you," I said after a brief moment of silence.

He cupped his hand over his ear and leaned in, "Sorry didn't hear you there princess, what was that?"

"I'm not repeating myself." I refused to satisfy his ego.

He grinned, "If I didn't know any better, I'd actually think that you just said thank you."

"You're welcome," I smirked.

"That was the worst joke I've ever heard from you."

"Stick around and you'll be hearing more."

"I plan too." He responded and took me by surprise again as I laced up my sneakers.

I lifted one of my eyebrow in question, "You're starting to be sweet, are you sure those rogues didn't you on the head?"

"Not the rogues, but you certainly did princess. Multiple times." He glared at me playfully.

"Hmm, don't remember." I mussed before leading the way towards the garage, "Anyways, you owe me ice-cream and after what you did today, you better make it a triple scoop."

"Ice-cream? Did you hit your head? Because I don't recall I owing you anything."

I waved him off, "Don't worry about the details, just that I like chocolate and cookie dough."

He chuckled at me as we entered the garage, "I think you're forgetting that I have no money."

I turned to him with a mischievous smile, "You'll work off your fee, don't worry."

"You don't mean that." He said with waning confidence.

"When we get to the ice-cream shop, you'll know exactly what I mean." I grabbed the keys of my 1956 Jaguar XKSS before turning towards him.

He looked at me wearily, "You're not planning on driving are you?"

"Certainly not letting you drive my baby," I said as I walked over to my car. "Her name's Gloria, but you can call her Glo for short."

"Is this a-"

"1956 Jaguar XKSS?" I asked with a proud smirk, "Yes it is. Now hope in."

He gave my green car an impressed gaze, "How did you get your hands on such a beauty?"

"Hey, Glo does not like to be ogled at," I reprimanded. "And it belonged to my great grandad but he died way before I was born so my grandfather gave it to for my sixteenth birthday."

"Maybe if you showed me this before I wouldn't have run."

This superficial idiot.

I scoffed, "Glo doesn't like you so it wouldn't matter."

He gave me a knowing smirk as he walked around the car and towards me. I backed up against the door as he trapped me against it.

"What I meant princess is that if I'd known you had a car, I would have driven off. Not run."

How do I feel? Relieved that he isn't here just because of my car or annoyed because he would have stolen said car?

"Well, you're never getting to drive her now."

"What I gave you some puppy dog eyes and told you that I'm staying not for the car but for you?"

"I'd knee you in the balls and then smack you upside the head since guys seem to think with both heads and I need to make sure I knock some sense into you."

He laughed at my sentence without knowing that I fully meant what I said.

But honestly, his laugh was equivalent to the best puppy dog eyes because I would have caved.

"Everette," He started but he wasn't being fair. First the laugh and now my name? Was he trying to melt my cold heart? "As painful as that sounds, I drugged you. I don't think driving is the best choice."

I waved him off, "Trust me, you'll be somewhat safe."

"Somewhat?" He asked alarmed. "I will rather be fully safe."

"You don't really have a choice." I shrugged.

His eyes held mischief, "Don't I?"

Callum stepped even closer to me so that the back of my thighs were touching the door. If I moved back any further, I fall onto the convertible hood which was up.

"Uh, Cal? What are you doing?" I asked with a shallow breath.

He didn't answer, just leaned down closer to me. My eyes automatically closed as I felt his hands moved to my own.

And as simple as pie, his hands slide into my own and grabbed the keys.

My eyes snapped open as he stepped back with the key in hand.

I glared daggers at him, "You stole my key!"

"Rule number one princess, don't drive under the influence." He said as we walked around to the left side of the car. "I rather keep both of us alive right now."

"I'm not under the influence. The drug wore off." I clarified but he only shrugged before entering the car.

I rolled my eyes at him before opening the car door and settling in.

I buckled my seatbelt before turning to him with a smirk as he faced the front of the car with the key in hand to where the steering wheel was supposed to be.

But this car was a right-hand drive.

I held my palm out as he gave me a disbelieving look.

"Glo really doesn't like me." He mumbled as he reluctantly handed over the keys.

I bit my lip to contain my laugh but as he sulked, I burst out in laughter.

"Do you honestly think I'd let you drive?" I asked as I backed out of the garage.

"No... but I'd like to think I was smart enough to know the correct side of the car." He grumbled.

"Don't worry, I've never driven a day in my life." I stared at him as I pulled onto the empty road.

His eyes widen in horror, "Everette! Eyes on the road!"

I smirked, "Relax, there are no other cars around."

"That doesn't mean you can drive without knowing how to!" He said hysterically. "I swear Everette Blackwood, you better pullover or else I'm jumping."

I pressed my foot on the gas and sped up, "Kidding, I've been driving since fifteen."

"You better be serious or else I'm pulling up the handbrake." He said in a panic as his hands grabbed the dashboard.

I 'accidentally' swerved the car and I swear to you he squealed like a girl.

"Everette!" He yelled at me again and I couldn't help but crack up.

"Okay, okay! Fine, I'll stop." I laughed as I slowed to a normal speed and drove like a normal person.

"I think I prefer your wolf than your driving." He mumbled as he clutched his chest and tried to control his breathing.

I reached my hand out and touched his arm. His touch always helped me calmed down so maybe I had the same effect on him.

As my palm came into contact with the skin of his muscular arm, I felt him relax.

What took me by surprise though was that he moved my hand from his arm and cupped in between is very warm palms.

After a brief moment, he placed it back of the steering wheel.

"As soothing as your touch is princess, I rather your hands at ten and two." He chuckled.

"Keep joking around and I'll show you some dangerous tricks."

His raised in arms in surrender, "I'll shut up if you keep us alive."

"That's much better," I commented as I turned up the radio and drove to my favorite place, the ice-cream parlor.

As I pulled up into the parking lot and turn the ignition off, Callum muttered, "Thank goodness we're alive.'

"I'm pretty sure I'm a better driver than you Cal." I stated as we got out of the car.

"If I had my bike I would've proved you wrong, but since I don't, how about lending me Glo to drive." He asked longingly.

I chuckled, "Good attempt, but no."

"Dang it." He snapped comically.

I think I may be falling. Or maybe I already did.

Does anyone want to catch my clumsy ass?

"Hey Alpha," A sixteen-year-old she-wolf named Ariah welcomed me as we entered, "and Luna?" She gave Callum a questioning look.

I snorted at the annoyed expression on Cal's face but he corrected her, "It's Máni actually. Nice to meet you-?"

"Ariah." She shook his extended hand and not at all embarrassed from calling him a Luna. "Nice to finally meet our Alpha's mate. She needs someone to stop her from eating all this ice-cream."

"Ari!" I scolded. "I'm your best customer."

"And I'm the only employee that would serve you ten scoops in a row, so keep the tips coming." She grinned. "Now what can I get you two?"

"I'll have three scoops of chocolate ice-cream with sprinkles, but Callum's paying." I looked at Callum expectantly and he gave me a displeased look.

"What your Alpha meant is that I have no money so she wouldn't be having any ice-cream today." He replied.

"Oh that's no problem at all, you can ring up the order yourself and have it free of charge." Ariah grinned as she gave me a wink.

Thought the girl well, I must admit.

"I swear if you make me wear a pink-"

"Apron?" Ariah smiled innocently as she held up a cute pink apron. "It's standard policy here. You must wear the uniform."

"I'm not wearing that." Callum finalized.

"My trust is equivalent to ice-cream." I coughed.

He gave me a pleading look, "Please don't make me wear it, princess?"

Using his endearment wasn't going to work today.

"There are cupcakes on it Ev, I can't."

"But you must for the ice-cream," I said with fake remorse before taking the apron out of Ari's hand and passing it to Cal, "Do it for the ice-cream."

He eyed the frilly pink apron that had cupcakes printed all over it as if it held the plague.

"The things I'd do for you..." He whispered.

Someone call 911 because I think my heart just exploded.

He took the apron out of my hand before tying it behind his neck and back.

"How do I look, princess?" He asked sheepishly.

I pinched his cheeks, "Adorable."

"Don't forget this," Ari passed him a headband with an upside-down ice-cream cone.

"You've got to be kidding me." He muttered but put it on his head anyways.

"It's final, you'll work at the ice-cream parlor from now on." I laughed.

Honestly, the sight before me was the best thing that I've ever seen in all my nineteen years of existence.

"In your dreams, princess." He muttered before going behind the counter and washing his hands.

"Whatever you say cupcake." I grinned at his unamused expression.

"I'll get you back for this." He promised.

"Alright cupcake." I teased. "Now about my triple scoop?"

Ari handed him a scooper and directed him to my favorite waffle cones.

But before he could take my order, a little girl and her mother walked in.

"Alpha!" The little five-year-old ran into my arms and I swung her up after greeting her mother.

"Hey cutie, want some ice-cream?" She nodded enthusiastically. "Just tell the guy at the counter, he's my mate."

Her curious little eyes glanced over at an embarrassed Callum who was sporting red cheeks as the little girl's mother held in a laugh.

The little cutie had a sparkle in her eye as she giggled, "Is he the tooth fairy?"

I laughed, "Maybe he is, why don't you tell him which flavor you want."

She gave him a shy smile and hid her face in the crook of my neck, "Can you tell him that I would like strawberry?"

My heart warmed by her cuteness but before I could tell Callum, he was already scooping the pink ice-cream into a cone topped with fresh strawberries and chocolate shavings.

"Look, it's all ready." I coaxed her out of her shy state.

She looked at Callum and after he gave her a big smile, she giggled and happily accepted her treath.

"Just for you, kiddo. But remember too many sweets will rot your teeth."

"He really is the tooth fairy!" The little girl squealed as she jumped out of my hand and ran around the counter to hug Callum's leg. "Thank you, mister."

"You're welcome, kid." He gave her a high five before she and her mother exited the shop. "I think I rather like this outfit now that the kids like me."

Ariah and I snorted at his change of heart.

"Okay tooth fairy, how about my ice-cream now."

"Remember Everette, too many sweets and your teeth will be gone." He said pointedly but grabbed me my three scoops anyways.

Once he was finished he took his time in taking off his pink outfit and I think he seems to really like it.

I enjoyed the chocolatey goodness as I pulled out a five-dollar bill from my pocket and tipped Ariah.

"Thanks, Alpha." She grinned.

Callum looked appalled, "I thought you said you had no money?"

"Found some in the car and plus I said you owed me ice-cream. Therefore, you had to pay." I grinned.

Instead of anger, Callum just looked amused by my antics but grumbled about my defiance and annoyance as we walked out of the store.

"Where to next?" He asked.

"The hardware." I pointed at the store before us.

"What do we need in here?" He asked as we entered.

"Rope." Was all I said as I grabbed some from rope and paid.

Callum looked at me silently but curiously as I led him to the edge of the forest near the shopping area.

"I swear Everette if you tie me to a tree..."

"Relax, it's an experiment," I explained vaguely.

As we reached a little clearing and large oak tree, I quickly devoured my ice-cream before turning to Callum.

I gave him an innocent smile as I walked closer to him.

"So tell me Callum, what was that in the garage today?" I asked about our almost kiss.

He seemed nervous and his attention shifted to my question, "No idea what you're talking about."

"Do you now?" I closed on him until his back hit the tree behind him. "How about I remind you?"

"Ev..." He trailed off as his eyes closed.

I took the opportunity to wrap the rope around the tree before securing it over his chest.

His green eyes flashed open in panic as he saw me tying the rope.

"What the-"

"Relax, I'm not going to kill you."

"I can't believe you're actually tying me to a tree right now."

"Well best believe it because it's happening."

He gave me a disapproving look as he backed away, "Princess I swear..."

"Maybe after this experience, you'll learn not to leave again."

"Princess-" But before he could say more, I finished tying the knot and began to walk away. "Ev? Everette where are you going?"

"I'll be back." I turned and gave him a smirk, "I'd say stay put but..."

I laughed at his annoyed expression as I went around and collected a few small sticks and twigs.

As soon as I gathered enough materials, I walked back over to see Callum on high alert.

"Where'd you go? I could've died out here." He exaggerated.

I chuckled, "It's only been a few minutes."

"Enough time to die."

"I just had to get somethings to build a fire for you since you might be staying here for the night."

"You plan on leaving me here overnight?" He looked appalled.

"Yup, trust. Remember?"

"Everette, you better be kidding."

I shrugged, "Sorry, but it's what I got to do."

He snorted, "You can let me stay in the guest room like a normal person."

"But where's the fun in that?"

"Where's the fun in this?"

"Well-"

"Don't answer that." He cut me off. "Just let me out of this rope and we can build trust with some trust falls or something."

I tapped my chin as if I was actually considering it but shook my head anyways, "That will be a no."

"Come on princess, I got you ice-cream." He pouted.

Okay, pouting isn't what I needed. I needed anger.

"I've actually been thinking and since I've spent most of my time with you these last two days, I realized that I hadn't really gotten to spend time with Finn." I wanted to slap myself for saying that but I didn't know what else to say to rile him up.

And I seemed to hit the spot too because Callum looked pissed, "The bastard? What does he have to do with anything?"

"You know since he's my best friend and all..." I trailed off guiltily.

"He wants you, Everette, as more than just a friend."

"No, he doesn't." I waved him off.

"Yes he fucking does and I'll be damned if..." He stopped as I could see the rage burning behind his eyes.

"If what?" I prodded.

"If he even dares to come within an inch of you," Callum growled.

I gave him a naive look, "What if I still leave you here alone and go hang out with him?"

"Why because you want him?" He spat in anger.

I simply shrugged and Callum was beyond furious.

"He can't have you."

"Oh? And why's that?" I asked innocently.

Callum glared at me and I saw some smoke rising from the pile of sticks I set up near him.

It was working!

His hands rose and gripped the rope at the sides of his chest and as he pulled the rope, it incinerated in his palms.

The ends of the rope smoked as a little fire started in the pile of twigs.

Callum's eyes were light green and looked like mystical green flames.

He placed his arms around me and while they were extremely warm, they had cool down from the evident fire that was there a few seconds ago.

I knew he was had the fire element the moment I felt his body heat. I just needed a way to prove it and this was it.

"Because you're mine princess. Not some bastard's."

His hands settled at my lower back and he pulled me flushed against his body and slammed his lips onto mine.

I felt my body mold into his larger frame and the initial contact froze me but as his lips moved over mine in a possessive exchange, I melted and wrapped my arms around his neck.

His tongue probed my lips to open up and as I did, I fought him for dominance and I felt a laugh reverberate through his body.

After exploring his delicious mouth, I allowed him to take over and instead moved my focus to run my hands through his hair.
