Chapter 30

"So what will it be?" The waitress, who was in her mid-thirties, asked with a warm smile.

After we internally freaked out from the rogues and the rogues knowing we were here, we waited for them to do something.

Being rogues I expected at least a growl and a fight, but nope. They kept in their seats and didn't look over once.

I don't know if I was mad because of a lack of fight or because I expected their wild tendencies to create a display without remorse for the humans.

But they certainly had an agenda since they neither fought nor created a spectacle.

Hopefully, that gave us enough time to plan a way to get out of here without falling into an easy trap.

At least for now, we had food from what Otis described as the best place in town for burgers.

The inside really was the stereotypical diner you see in movies. Black and white tiled floors, red leather booths, a long counter surrounded by high bar stools and waitresses who dressed like they were in the eighties.

"I'll have five grilled cheese, two sides of fries and a glass of water." Abel rattled off his order.

The woman took note of his order but not without a raised brow, "And that's for the entire table right?"

"No," Otis answered coolly, "my grandkids here are big eaters."

Both her eyebrows now rose as she fully looked at us.

"Grandkids? I thought your boy didn't have kids?"

"Nick never had any kids before he passed," Otis grumbled as a look of pain flashed within his eyes. "They're my brother's grandkids. He moved out of Fairbairn when he was young so no one knows him but these two, Abel and Everette, decided to explore their grandad's old town."

She grinned in understanding, "Ah, well they don't take after the Newton family at all. And how about this one."

Her finger pointed right at Cal who kept his down and buried under his hat and hoodie.

"This is my cousin, Rick." Elle introduced him before quickly changing gears and placing her order.

"I'll have two chocolate milkshakes, three burgers and two sides of onion rings," I said, and the poor waitress's eyes nearly popped out as she stared at me incredulously. "And Rick here would have the same."

"As I said, they're big eaters," Otis chuckled nervously.

She nodded and proceeded to take the other orders which were normal human portions.

"You know I'm not going to eat that much, right Princess?" Cal whispered in my ear and I gave him a smirk.

"I know, some of that is mine."

Chuckling, he casually placed his arm behind me.

"So, what are we-" Louis started but I shook my head at him to stop talking.

Grabbing a napkin, I motioned if anyone had a pen and Otis pulled one out from his pocket.

Scribbling across the paper, I wrote down that the rogues could hear us, so we had to communicate through writing. Well, anything concerning our plan that is.

Otis grabbed the napkin and asked what's my plan of action.

Looking at Abel, I mind linked him, 'Think we should contact the others?'

'Not unless we're sure they aren't planning to surround us as soon as we leave here, which I'm pretty sure they will be doing if they can mind link the other rogues in Fairbairn.' He replied as his eyes cut to the group.

'Shit, you're right,' I mused. 'Still mind link Finn and let him know our situation but make no move to approach the town unless we say so. I don't smell any of them outside but this god damn perfume is also clogging my sniffers.'

'Your what?'

'Nostrils.' I corrected.

While Abel mind linked Finn and got the rest of my pack up to speed, I wrote down my plan on a napkin for the others to read.

First, we were going to sit here, act normal an enjoy our meal.

Second, we're going to wait for these tame rogues to walk out of here and casually follow them out.

Third, we're going out guns blazing... and canines out, ready for attack.

Because after all, they now know that an Alpha is here and the only way I can help the hunters out is to kill them. That was also the only way I knew the humans will be safe until we exterminated the pack of rogues that seemed to be fixated on killing my pack and integrating into Fairbairn.

Or worse yet, taking over Fairbairn.

That certainly was not happening on my watch.

Of course, Otis and Callum weren't too impressed with my plan but I sure as shit was not going to let these rogues go. Not without a fight.

Scribbling furiously on another napkin as I asked if they had a better plan than leaving with our tails between our legs and when they both didn't answer, we all knew what we had to do.

Abel and I kept our ears open on the conversation of the rogues but they kept their words light with conversations on tv shows, food and things they needed to buy with jokes and sibling jabs in between. All a front knowing that they had ears listening to their words.

We ate and kept up a conversation as the rogues did and I kept sniffing around to ensure no other rogues were approaching or waiting outside.

As I reached for my fifth burger, the rogues called over for their bill and I reluctantly said goodbye to my burger and half glass of milkshake as Otis silently motioned to the waitress that we were ready to check out.

Our waitress took her merry time as we sat while the four rogues made their exit. But not without an acknowledgment.

We kept our eyes off them but as the walked past us, the female rogues giggled as she addressed me.

"Alpha."

The growl that erupted from my chest couldn't have been stopped as I looked up and glared daggers at her.

But as the Moon Goddess looked down on me and laughed like I was performing at an open mic, I heard the one thing I wish I couldn't.

The one thing that threw me off-kilter.

"Mate," Abel whispered.

I can't make this shit up. I wish I could because then I could stop it from happening, but I didn't and I can't.

Time seemed frozen as the girl's eyes flashed to Abel's and they both sniffed the air as they now caught each other's scent.

The damn perfumes must have been covering it up.

The three guys with her, her brothers according to Louis, caught on to what was happening to their sister. Snapping everyone out of their state of shock, they grabbed the girl and pulled her outside as Abel almost ran over Otis to exit the booth.

Throwing my credit card at Louis, I stormed out behind Abel with the others hot on my heels.

'Abel, stop!' I shouted at him when we exited the diner.

Paying me no attention, he looked around at the empty parking lot before sniffing the air and walking around the building like a man on a mission.

"What the hell is happening?" I heard Elle's voice behind me and Callum proceeded to answer her as we followed Abel to the back of the building.

As we rounded the building and came to the small back lot of the diner, I was thankful there were no humans but the three rogues standing around their sister with an angry Abel was a fight I didn't the ending to.

"Let her the fuck go," Abel roared at the rogues.

They smiled sinisterly at him and the one in the middle spoke up, "You think you have a claim on our baby sister just because you're her mate? Think again pup."

"I think she's quite capable of making her own decisions."

Snickering the rogue stepped aside so that his sister was facing us.

"Tell us Holly, what's your decision? Go to your mate with his pack or stay with our new family?"

The malicious tone he held sounded as though Holly didn't exactly have a choice.

"He's my mate." She snapped at her brother and he narrowed his eyes at her and she added, "But I want to stay with our family."

Grinning like a fool...which he most likely is, the brother said, "There you have it, she stays with us."

"No," Abel growled harshly before softening his tone and addressing his mate. "Holly, my name is Abel. I know you don't have a reason to trust me or my pack, but I promise you, you'll be safe with us. Even your brothers, if they join us. My Alpha here will gladly accept you all into the pack but I can't let you go. I've waited too long."

The brothers all laughed as the only one who was talking, kept on talking, "You think we're fools? Every death we've seen of rogues has been from your pack. You kill your own kind while you're dining with humans. We know who you're mate is," his eyes were focused on me, "the human behind you. You're with the same humans that almost destroyed your pack in the past while you kill out werewolves."

"Rogues, not werewolves," I growled. "Don't pretend your kind hasn't been attacking and killing my pack. You're all nothing but savages that break the rules to get things that don't belong to you. I would never allow you in my pack, only your sister is she wishes."

Abel's eyes snapped at me with horror, "You don't mean that."

"I do," I said evenly. "Make your decision Holly, your mate or your brothers?"

The she-wolf looked back at forth between her siblings and Abel. Her eyes conveyed a waging war as Abel started to pace.

"She'll protect us Holly and I'll protect you. Just let me." Abel vowed to his mate.

Slowly, she shook her head.

"I don't trust your pack. You'll never be able to protect me if I join your pack, Abel. Not with what's about to happen. Join us instead."

Abel seemed conflicted by the situation but he was loyal. Loyal to the pack and to his Alpha.

I took a step towards him and he held up his hand to stop me.

"You go with her Abel and you'll be kicked out of the pack. You'll be considered a rogue as any one of them." I informed him.

"I can't part with her," He uttered. "You must understand?"

Abel's eyes flashed to Callum behind me and I knew what he meant. He was loyal to her now and she chose her family.

Answering him with a simple nod, he backed up.

"Abel?" Holly called to him, "I won't bow down to your Alpha but I do accept you as my mate."

"Tell us wolf, will you join us to be with your mate or stay with your Alpha?" The brother asked.

Abel looked between us one more time before he turned fully to me.

"I choose Holly." He announced before he shifted into his wolf. 'I'm sorry Alpha.'

His sincerity didn't go beyond me.

The brothers grinned with malice as they cracked their knuckles.

"Now we can get to the fun part."

I shifted as they did and Callum was by side with his gun in an instant.

Ottis and Elle stood at my other side as the brother's growled at us.

Within a millisecond, all hell broke loose.

Gunshots rang out around me as I ran straight towards the annoying brother that did all the talking.

I collided with him head-on as we both snapped at each other's faces.

His canine nipped my ear but I used the opportunity to sink my teeth into his fur and taste the rusty blood on my tongue.

Throwing his wolf body to the floor, I pinned him below me as his warm sticky blood seeped onto my fur.

He used his back legs to kick at my ribs and the force of it knocked me back on my ass.

From my peripheral vision, I saw Abel's wolf pulling a smaller wolf off into the woods behind the lot we were in.

He wasn't fighting us but he wasn't exactly sticking around to help either. I watched as the wolf, his mate, reluctantly gave up her fight and followed him through the dense forest.

As the rogue pushed me to my back and I lost sight of Abel, I focused my attention on killing him.

He tried to sink his teeth into me but I used my head to knock his jaw shut. Using my front paws, I pushed onto his chest and sank the nails on my paws into him.

Howling in pain, I shoved his body off of me as I admired my claw marks that made him bleed.

I stood at the side of him and grab him with my canines and rolled him onto his stomach. He whimpered in pain and tried to fight back but I applied more pressure into the bite before releasing him and sinking my teeth into his neck.

He deserved a much slower death but all the whining he was doing would just draw more attention to our already chaotic scene.

Dropping his limp body to the gravel ground, I turned to see the two other rogues shielding behind large garbage containers from the flying silver bullets.

I growled loud enough to catch Cal's attention and noting that I was ready to tackle another rogue, he stopped his shotting and motioned for Elle and Otis to do the same.

As soon as the bullets stopped, I sprinted towards the two rogues who immediately turned their attention to me.

Shit, I didn't think this through. I hope one of them had a good aim and could shot one of the rogues with hitting me.

But as I got tangled with one with both our bodies rolling around in the ground, I prayed to the Moon Goddess that today wasn't my last.

Just as I felt the sting of the rogue's teeth sink into one of my legs, his body was shoved off of mine.

It took me a minute to fully comprehend what was happening until I looked to my right and saw Finn's wolf over the rogue.

Jumping in to help, I sank my teeth into the rogue's side as Finn held him down. Applying pressure, I made sure and got in deep before releasing my hold with my teeth and letting the blood sep out of the wound.

Finn made sure and got in a few extra bites as I turned to see Callum and Elle shooting bullets into the last rogue.

As the two of them bled out, I turned to the entryway we came through and was glad to see no humans approaching.

Callum pulled off his t-shirt and tossed it to me as I shifted.

Finn grabbed the pants tied to one of his hind legs before shifting back as well.

"Care to tell me what the hell just happened?" Finn asked as his eyes flashed to the bodies.

"Abel found his mate and he left with her." I gave him the cliff notes version. "That doesn't matter because we have two problems right now. One, we need to get these bodies out of here and two, his mate said something."

"What?" Finn asked with a low voice.

Callum answered for me, "She said that Abel won't be able to protect her from what's about to happen."

"Meaning?" Finn searched for more answers but I had none.

The sound of running footsteps sounded as I went on alert and Callum aimed his gun to the alleyway.

I relaxed when I smelt Louis.

Approaching us he asked, "What did I miss?" Cal stepped aside and as the human saw the dead bodies he paled, "Never mind."

Chapter Update: Wednesday

Oh shoot... didn't see that one coming. 👀

Clearly my new resolution haven't been working out.

But also here's what's up. I've been needing new glasses for almost 2 years now and haven't been able to get them. My eyes have been giving me some serious issues recently and I've been having migraines for the last week. Finally went to the optometrist last week and evidently my eyes are much worse. So getting my new glasses on the 15th. So if I take extra time with updating it's because my eyes. (My eyes are healthy though, just need new lens). Then after I get it, my doctor said because it's a much stronger lens, my eyes are going to have to get time to adjust (means it may hurt for a few days). So bare with me till then, I haven't been able to read or write much.
