Chapter 32
The scent of juniper berries and fresh sage filled my nostrils as I stretched out my aching body and sprawled out onto the large comfy bed.
As I spread eagle, my left hand knocked into something and I heard a groan before a gasp.
"Everette?" I heard a voice whisper near me.
I grumbled in my sleepy state and placed a finger on my lip in the universal symbol of 'shh'.
"Even in her sleep she's knocking me in the head," the voice scoffed quietly, and I giggled before I felt an extremely warm hand gently hold my left one. "Wake up babe, I need to know you're alright."
Peering one eye opened I watched a concerned Callum staring down at me, "Why would I not be alright?"
"I thought Gramps was the one with memory loss..." he mused. "The rogues from Fairbairn, they ambushed us after we killed the three behind the diner. They scratched you up with silverberry before one of them stood on you, broke two of your ribs."
The worry written all over his face didn't subside, but I remembered what happened. I honestly just thought it was a nightmare... guess not.
But I also remembered something else, "You got back your powers!"
My excited squeal rivalled all squeals as I leaped from the bed and into Cal's arms where he was sitting beside the bed.
"Woah! Take it easy now Princess, your body's been through some ruff shit." But he made no attempt to let me go as his arms wrapped around my waist and comfortingly ran up and down my back. "You scared the shit out of me."
I leaned back and looked at him, "It must not have been that serious though if I'm alive."
"Don't joke around about that Ev, I'm serious. After I burnt that rogue to ashes, you were barely breathing. Finn said in order for your bones to heal back into shape we had to get a brace for your back. That was one thing, but we also had to clean the wounds on your back because the damn silverberry was stopping you from healing." His jaw clenched in anger as he recalled what happened.
"I'm healed now though," I assured him as I touched my chest and only then noticed that I was dressed in one of Callum's t-shirt.
"After you passed out..." His eyes flickered to burning light green.
"Babe, your eyes. Don't burn your grandpa's house down." I placed my palms on his chest.
Placing a kiss on my forehead he said, "I won't. But I know how you felt now after I was taken by the rogues. It's was torture sitting here and not being able to do anything about you waking up."
"Well, you know me, not willing to give up the life of ice-cream and annoying you." I grinned and he rolled his eyes. "How long have I been out for?"
"About eighteen hours. After we made sure you were alright, Kelly and Minna helped clean you up and dress you before Finn and some of the hunters went back in Fairbairn to see if there was any left. They're all gone and the ones who showed up here either got their asses burnt to a crisp or shot." He filled me in.
"That's good, twenty less to worry about but we still have the situation of Abel," I sighed. "Cheer me up and tell me about your powers."
Wrapping my arms around his shoulders, he placed tiny kisses all over my face.
"When I saw that dumb fuck hurting you, well, I never felt that much anger in my life. I think that triggered it because as I got closer and saw what was happening, I felt the fire burn through my body, and something set a raging inferno within me. Like a man possessed I just let it loose on the rogue and then the rest of them followed. It's different now though," he mused.
"How?" I asked with concern.
"It feels stronger, like the fire grew within me and oddly, I feel more in control of it. I know it disappeared but it's like I finally know how to manipulate it to my will." His face held wonder as he held up his right hand and on command, flames fluttered around his palm before it went out as he closed his palm.
I smirked, "Does that mean we won't accidentally set anything on fire again." I couldn't help but bit my lip as my mind wandered to just what I wanted to do with him that would have definitely ended up with a burnt house at the end.
"Why, Princess, are you trying to seduce me by making suggestions?" One of his eyebrows shot up in curiosity.
"Maybe... definitely." I pecked his lips. "Hearing that me being hurt made you turn back into a walking match stick is really doing it for me."
He threw his head back and let out a hearty laugh before looking back at me and turning serious, "You don't get it, Everette. I would set Fairbairn on fire for you. I would light up the forest like it was hell itself to protect you."
My heart was definitely beating up a wild rhythm in my chest that I sure the entire house could hear.
"Cal?" I whispered, suddenly breathless.
"Yes, Princess?"
My eyes met his own and I said with clarity and honesty, "I'm in love with you Callum. More than ice-cream."
His emerald eyes twinkled as his lips met my own and we melted together. It was gentle but filled with so much passion, I could explode. The heat from his body was a welcomed feeling but it was over too soon as he pulled away with the biggest grin I've ever seen on him.
"I love you too, Princess. So fucking much." He responded before wiggling his eyebrows. "So, does this mean you'll be giving up for ice-cream addiction now that you have me?"
I smiled but scoffed, "Think again buddy."
"But I'm your hot angel." I stand corrected, the grin plastered on his face is the biggest I've now seen.
Groaning, I leaned my head on his chest, "Please kill me, I can't believe I said that out loud."
Feeling his body vibrate with laughter below me he lifted my face to his, "You better believe that I will be expecting you to call me Hot Angel from now."
"Cute," I said sarcastically.
"Aren't I?"
"Should I lie to you?"
"Truths only please."
"I'll spare you because I love you." I winked.
"You saying that is now my new favorite thing," He peppered kisses up my neck. "Now, how are you feeling Princess?"
"Spiffy," I answered.
"Spiffy?" He pulled back and rose a brow.
"Yup, spiffy."
"Meaning?"
"Really flipping spiffy..." I lowered my voice to a whisper, "so much so that I wish we weren't in a house with other wolves and your grandpa."
Both his brows now rose as he pulled me tightly against him, "And if I told you we were alone and will be for a while?"
I sniffed around and when I didn't catch the scent of anyone around, my cheeks turned red.
"Where is everyone?"
"Out getting things ready," He said ominously.
"Getting what ready for what?"
"Otis accepted your deal, whatever it was. Everyone's packing up to leave tomorrow. Some of the hunters are moving back to Fairbairn and the rest of them are heading back with us." The proud expression on his face didn't pass me as I stared at him with wide eyes.
"They agreed to help? How? What? When?" I rambled.
"Well, when they saw you fighting the rogues, despite being outnumbered, you showed them you cared. You, Finn and Minna, could have left them there at the rogues' mercy but you stood front line, secured my grandpa and fought with everything you had, and almost died, without caring that the people you were protecting are the ones you considered enemies, not more than a week ago." He shrugged, "You're pretty badass."
"Wow! Finally, something going our way. Have Otis told you what my deal was?" I asked him.
"Nope. He said you wanted to announce it yourself."
"Well, I think you'll be okay with me making this decision." I took in a deep breath before revealing my secret, "I told him that if he got the hunters to help us, I will call off the Ritual. No more ritual to the beast."
Cal looked confused, "But what about the next Alpha? How is that kid, our kid, suppose to find his or her mate?"
"We'll designate a week where the Alpha will come to Fairbairn, in human form and woo his mate. No ritual, no dresses, and scary myths. Just an Alpha coming to town, finding his mate and making him or her fall in love before telling the human our secret and bringing said human back to our pack with consent. This whole kidnapping thing is way too insane for me to let happen again. Also, the whole twenty years thing isn't going to happen. We'll have a kid when we want and when we're ready. Not anytime soon."
I sat on his lap and watched as he took in what I said and then smiled like a maniac, "You're freaking incredible!"
"I know, one of my many attributes."
"Definitely." He said and made a show of looking me up and down before I tapped him behind his head.
"So, now that we have the house to ourselves, a deal made and rogue-free human town... what do we do with ourselves?" I asked shyly.
Shy? Who am I?
I sure did hope he got my hint though because suddenly being blunt was a difficult task.
"Are you sure?" He asked me with concern, and I knew we were on the same page. "You've just recovered Ev and I don't want to hurt you." He cupped my cheek with his right hand.
I turned my head and gave his palm a kiss, "One, I'm all healed up and two, you could never hurt me."
"But what if I-"
"Stop Cal. I love you and I want this if you're ready. Only if you're ready." I assured him.
Leaning his forehead on my own, he whispered, "I've been ready for a long time, Princess."
Not knowing how to respond, I answered him with a kiss.
His day-old stubble scratched against me as I pressed my lips to his warm ones. I didn't waste any time as I opened my mouth and let him take control of the kiss. My hand wandered into his hair and both his hands grasped my waist.
I couldn't get over the warmth of him, sponsored by his magical fire powers, that I missed pressed against me. It was like one of those weighted blankets.
Absolute bliss.
Wanting to get closer to him, my hands ran down his muscular arms, paying special attention to his muscular arms, before running it down his stomach and under his t-shirt.
Peeling the material up, he pulled away from me just enough so that I could get the t-shirt off him.
His lips were back on mine as his tongue explored my mouth like we haven't kissed in a decade.
My hands enjoyed the smooth skin and taut muscles that laid beneath my palms. I felt a growl emit from Cal as my hands explored. Every hard part of him was aligned to every soft part of me and let's just say I could tell how excited he was...
I was quick to lower my hands to the zipper on his jeans which unfortunately made him pull away.
His hands released me and grabbed both my wrists as his lips pulled away from my own and he was breathing harshly.
"Not so fast, Princess," He groaned. "I want you, but if we don't slow down, I'm afraid this evening isn't going to last too long."
Feeling relief wash through, I smirked, "We'll take it as slow as you want babe."
His eyes ignited with heat as his eyes looked behind me, "How about we go for a swim?"
"A swim?" I quirked.
"Come on, it'll be fun, and we still have time before the others get back." He picked me up and slide me down his body with careful precision.
A little moan escaped me as he gave me a wink and led me towards the glass door, "Let's go."
"Wait, I don't have a bathing suit," I noted.
"What you have on is perfectly fine babe."
I guess underwear and Callum's long t-shirt will work as good as anything else.
Cal, on the other hand, tempted me as he stripped off his jeans which left him in his boxers.
The man wasted no time as he immediately dashed into the water and went under. He resurfaced and bobbed out of the water where his torso up was above the water's surface.
"Holy ice-cream on a hot summer day," I whispered to myself as I watched the water dripping out of Callum's hair and down his chest.
This was about to be a great day. I could just tell.
Following my mate's lead, I went into the water and swam closer to him where the water was warmer.
He held his hands out for me and I took it as he pulled me close to him.
"So, I was thinking-"
"Never a good idea," I cut him off with a smirk.
"Overused joke."
"Still funny."
"Anyways, I was thinking about getting another tattoo," Cal announced.
I smirked, "Of my name scribbled across your chest? Forehead? Ohh, maybe a tramp stamp?"
What I didn't expect was for him to push my shoulders down and dunk me under the water for a millisecond.
As I resurfaced, I glared at him, "Hey! I could have died!"
"Not on my watch you won't," He chuckled as I splashed him with water. "But now you're all nice and wet."
His double meaning got him an eye roll because honestly, that ship sailed before we got into the lake...
"Tell me about your tattoo," I grumbled before adding, "Ice-cream has taken back it's placed as number one by the way."
"Fine, then I'll be point five." He shrugged. "As for new ink, I was thinking of getting a wolf or something, for you."
I shook my head, "Cal, you don't. It's honestly not necessary, plus my mom has one of those already."
"Hmm, then how about paw prints? Right above my heart where you've left your mark."
I gave a good thought before grinning like a fool in love, which I most definitely am.
"How about an ice-cream cone?" I suggested.
Laughing he said, "Not a bad idea, Princess."
Releasing his hands, we began floating around each other.
"Ready to tell me why you call me Princess yet?" I asked.
"Nope," he grinned.
I gave him a playful scold and splashed water at him which resulted in a full out battle. Water was splashed about, heads were dunked, body parts brushed against each other and this girl was more than ready to drag her mate back to the house.
After a few laps around the lake, we somehow ended up in the middle of the water.
Drawing nearer to the other, my arms instinctively went around his neck. It didn't take me long to show him what I wanted as I crashed my lips against his own. A low groan vibrated through his body which egged me on as he opened his mouth and our tongues met. Tasting him and being intoxicated in his scent was a heady sensation.
I explored his mouth before he took his turn and pulled my bottom lip between his teeth. Cal's arms went behind my knees, as I took the cue to wrap my legs around his waist.
Instinctually, his planted kisses along my jaw and down my neck until he reached the sweet spot where he would have marked if he was a werewolf.
It was one of the most sensitive parts on a werewolf and my head fell back as I allowed his small attack.
Seeing as we're the first female werewolf and male human pair, I didn't quite understand how it would work with marking, but I suppose I would be marking him.
But we have yet to discover that.
Things began to heat up as Cal's hands slid under my drenched t-shirt and splayed across my lower back.
"Are you sure you're ready for this Everette?" He asked after he pulled his lips away from my neck.
Locking my legs around him tighter, I answered with, "I want you, Callum."
Cal didn't waste another moment as he hauled ass out of the water and walked us back to the room.
~~~
I watched as he got rid of the protection we used before coming back to bed and snuggling up with me.
He really was a cuddler.
"That was perfect." He said hoarsely.
'It was fucking amazing,' I replied through mind link and he stared at me with such awe.
"Wow! Holy shit, how'd you do that?" He asked excitedly.
Making myself comfortable in his arms and snuggling up into the crook of his neck, I explained to him how to mind link as I enjoyed our short moment of bliss before the real world came knocking on the door.
The most amazing part was the crazy insane miracle that allowed Callum to mark me after I marked him.
He grew actual canines before it disappeared. I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
Chapter Update: Friday
Wow! So they finally mated and Cal got to mark Ev and Ev got to mark Cal and that part was more described in the rated version sorry ð
Also, we finally know what her deal was with Otis!
The reason I kept this chapter here clean was that I don't want it to be classified as a mature novel as it would be more difficult for other readers to find and some readers expressed that they weren't interested in smut and I do have a 22% demographic of readers under 18.
