Briar's POV:
So, my college tests are coming up, and here I am, sitting in class, listening to the professor drone on about whatever subject this was. My mind kept drifting, not that it was surprising. It always did when the topic didnât hold my attention. But it wasnât just that. Ever since I met Olivia, it felt like everything was shifting, even the simplest things seemed to have a new layer of meaning.
After class, I joined Tara and Ethan in the canteen, grabbing a seat at a table while they talked about something that barely registered in my brain. Tara looked over at me, her gaze mischievous, and asked, âSo, have you kissed the alpha yet or not?â
Ethan giggled at her question, and I shifted my attention to my hands, which were resting on my lap. I shook my head, trying to hide my discomfort. "Why would I do that?" I asked.
âBecause sheâs your mate,â Ethan said, his voice light but full of meaning.
Tara leaned in, adding, âYou can kiss her, you know.â
I raised an eyebrow. âBut what if she doesnât want to kiss me?â The thought had been nagging at me for a while now. What if I was just imagining the pull between us?
Tara stared at me, her disbelief clear. âWhy wouldnât she want to kiss you? Sheâs been searching for her mate half her life,â she said with conviction.
I frowned, still unsure. âBut then why hasnât she kissed me?â I asked, my mind racing with questions.
Ethan answered this time, his voice soft. âBecause she doesnât want to make you feel uncomfortable.â
I nodded, understanding their point but still feeling a little unsure. There was so much I didnât know about this bond. About her.
A few moments passed before I hesitantly asked, âSo, who are your mates?â I was curious about them, about how they had figured everything out. Tara and Ethan exchanged a glance before both of them blushed, a warm color staining their cheeks.
I couldnât help but blink in disbelief. âNo way,â I whispered, still trying to process it.
Tara smiled, a little sheepish but clearly happy. âYes, way. Weâre each other's mates.â
Ethan gently took her hand and kissed the back of it softly, causing Tara to blush even more. I couldnât help but smile. âYou two are so cute,â I said, watching the way they interacted. There was something so simple, so natural about it.
I tilted my head, my curiosity getting the best of me. âSo, you two kiss each other?â I asked, a playful note in my voice.
Ethan looked at me bluntly. âOh, we do. More than that,â he said casually.
Tara immediately hid her face with her hand, a deep blush coloring her features. âNo details needed,â I said quickly, as I couldnât help but laugh at the reactions from both of them.

Later, on the training ground, Olivia and I were going through a few drills. It was one of those rare moments where I could focus entirely on something other than the storm of thoughts in my head. My mind kept drifting back to earlier, thinking about what Tara and Ethan had said about the bond between mates, and what that meant for Olivia and me.
As I glanced at Olivia, she was drinking from her water bottle, looking effortlessly graceful. My thoughts must have been a little too obvious because she suddenly caught my gaze.
âYouâre staring,â Olivia said, catching me off guard.
That snapped me back into reality. âNo, Iâm not,â I said, shaking my head quickly, hoping to play it off.
She raised an eyebrow, clearly not convinced. "Sure youâre not," she said with a small smile but didnât press further.
I couldnât help but feel a little embarrassed. Maybe I was staring. But it wasnât just her beautyâit was the pull between us. It was like a magnet, drawing me closer with every passing second. It was impossible to ignore, even when I tried.
So, I let the moment pass, focusing back on the training session. But I couldn't shake the thought of what it might feel like to close that distance between us.
