Episode 18: Building Bridges
---
Briarâs POV
The hum of chatter fills the classroom as our professor assigns us into groups for a project due in two weeks. I glance at Tara and Ethan, who are seated beside me, and let out a relieved breath when the professor doesnât split us up.
âThank the Moon Goddess,â Ethan mutters, grinning as he leans back in his chair. âI donât think I could survive being stuck with anyone else.â
âLikewise,â Tara teases, nudging him with her elbow. âThough Iâm not sure how much work youâll actually do.â
âIâll have you know Iâm excellent at group projects,â Ethan says, feigning offense.
âRight,â I say, smirking. âLike that time you âaccidentallyâ forgot to add your part to the presentation slides?â
âThat was one time!â Ethan protests, throwing his hands up. âAnd I had a legitimate excuseâmy Wi-Fi was down!â
âUh-huh,â Tara says, crossing her arms. âAnd that wouldnât have happened if you didnât wait until the last minute to do it.â
I laugh, watching them bicker like an old married couple. But as their playful argument dies down, something shifts in Ethanâs expression.
âHonestly,â he says, his voice softening, âI wouldnât have made it through last semester without you, Tara. Meeting you... it gave me a reason to push myself, you know?â
Tara looks at him, her teasing demeanor fading. âEthanâ¦â
I glance away, suddenly feeling like Iâm intruding on a private moment. But the warmth in my chest tells me Iâm happy for them. They deserve thisâsomeone who makes them feel whole.
Later, as we sit together in the library, working on our project, I realize how much their friendship means to me. Theyâve been my constant in this whirlwind of change, grounding me when everything feels overwhelming.

Oliviaâs POV
The packhouse buzzes with energy as wolves gather for the monthly meeting. Itâs a chance for everyone to air concerns, discuss upcoming plans, and strengthen our bond as a pack.
Tonight, though, I have a special guest.
âAre you sure this is a good idea?â Briar asks as we walk toward the meeting room.
âYouâll be fine,â I reassure her, placing a hand on her lower back. âItâs just a chance for you to see how things work. No pressure to say or do anything.â
She nods, but I can feel the nervous energy radiating off her.
When we enter the room, all eyes turn to us. My pack is used to my presence commanding attention, but tonight, their curiosity is directed at Briar.
âThis is Briar,â I announce, my voice steady. âSheâs new to the pack and still finding her footing, so I expect you all to welcome her as one of our own.â
A few murmurs of acknowledgment ripple through the room, and I lead Briar to a seat beside me at the head of the table.
As the meeting progresses, I notice Briarâs initial unease give way to quiet fascination. She listens intently as we discuss patrol schedules, training sessions, and upcoming events.
âBriar,â I say at one point, drawing her attention. âWhat do you think about the idea of hosting a community event to strengthen ties with neighboring packs?â
Her eyes widen slightly, caught off guard. âOh, um... I think itâs a great idea. It could help build trust and prevent misunderstandings.â
âExactly,â I say, giving her an encouraging smile.
When the meeting concludes, I glance at her. âSee? That wasnât so bad.â
She grins. âIt was... actually kind of cool. You make it look so easy.â
âYears of practice,â I say lightly. âBut you did great tonight. Your input was valuable.â

After the meeting, we step outside into the cool night air. The moon hangs low in the sky, casting a silvery glow over the packhouse grounds.
âThank you for letting me sit in,â Briar says, her voice softer now. âIt means a lot.â
I glance at her, noting the way her eyes shine in the moonlight. âYouâre part of the pack, Briar. And more importantly, youâre my mate. I want you by my side, always.â
Her cheeks flush, and she looks away, a shy smile tugging at her lips. âYou always know what to say, donât you?â
âOnly when it comes to you,â I reply without hesitation.
We fall into a comfortable silence as we walk, the sound of our footsteps mingling with the rustling of leaves. Then, without warning, Briar reaches for my hand.
Her fingers brush against mine hesitantly before intertwining. My heart skips a beat at the boldness of the gesture, but I squeeze her hand gently, letting her know itâs okay.
âI hope this isnât weird,â she says, her voice barely above a whisper.
âItâs not weird,â I assure her. âItâs perfect.â
We stop walking, and I turn to face her fully. Thereâs a vulnerability in her expression that tugs at something deep inside me.
âI... I think Iâm falling for you,â she admits, her voice trembling slightly.
My breath catches, and for a moment, all I can do is stare at her. Then, slowly, I reach up to cup her cheek, my thumb brushing against her skin.
âYou donât have to think,â I say softly. âYou already are.â
Before she can respond, I lean in, capturing her lips in a gentle kiss. She freezes for a heartbeat before melting into it, her hand tightening around mine.
When we pull back, her cheeks are flushed, and her eyes are wide.
âI didnâtââ she starts, but I cut her off with a smile.
âNeither did I,â I say. âBut Iâm glad it happened.â
She looks down, a bashful smile spreading across her face. âMe too.â
As we continue walking, hand in hand, I canât help but feel that this momentâthis quiet, unspoken connectionâis the beginning of something truly unshakable.
