Chapter 8: Episode 8: The Storm Within

My Young Mate ( GxG Intersex )Words: 6264

(Briar's POV)

Briar woke up with a strange feeling in her chest. It wasn't the usual unease she'd felt in the past few days. This time, it was a sensation of anticipation, of something coming. Her heart was racing, her breath shallow. It was as though the world around her had shifted slightly, and she could sense something was about to change-something important.

She glanced at the clock on her bedside table. It was already past 8 a.m., and her first class of the day was about to begin. But today, her routine felt irrelevant. Something far more significant was brewing inside her.

She swung her legs off the bed and stood up, but before she could take a step, a soft knock echoed from her bedroom door.

"Briar, sweetheart? Can we talk for a moment?" her mother's voice called from the other side.

Briar felt her stomach tighten. She knew what this was about. It had been a few days since the conversation about being a werewolf, and every day since had left her with more questions than answers.

"Come in," Briar replied, her voice quieter than she'd intended.

Her mother opened the door, stepping into the room with a soft smile, but Briar could see the concern in her eyes.

"How are you feeling this morning, sweetie?" her mom asked, sitting at the edge of the bed.

Briar shook her head. "I don't know. I feel... like I'm about to explode. Something's wrong, Mom. Something's happening to me."

Her mom's expression softened, her hand reaching for Briar's. "I know, darling. We've been waiting for you to feel it. You're starting to change, Briar. You're going through the first stages of your transformation."

Briar swallowed hard, her throat dry. "I don't know what to do. I feel like I'm losing control."

Her mom squeezed her hand gently. "You're not losing control. It's normal to feel overwhelmed at first. You'll need time to adjust. But remember, you're not alone. We're here, and Olivia's pack will help you, too."

"Olivia..." Briar murmured, her heart pounding at the thought of the alpha who was supposedly her destined mate.

Her mother smiled softly. "Yes, Olivia. She's been waiting for you, Briar. You'll meet her when the time is right."

Briar swallowed again, her thoughts racing. She wanted to ask more, to demand answers about what was happening to her, but something in her gut told her that she wasn't quite ready for the full truth.

"I know it's a lot," her mom continued, standing up. "But you'll figure it out. You're stronger than you think."

As her mom left, Briar sat on the edge of her bed, lost in thought. The truth was, she didn't feel strong. In fact, she felt the exact opposite. Her emotions were a chaotic storm inside her. Fear. Confusion. Anger. And something darker.

"What am I supposed to do?" Briar whispered to herself, her hands shaking as she stood and walked over to the window.

The world outside seemed quieter today, as though nature itself was holding its breath. But Briar couldn't escape the pull, the sensation of something-or someone-waiting for her.

(Olivia's POV)

Olivia's day had been a whirlwind of pack matters and territory checks, but none of it seemed to matter as much as Briar. She couldn't stop thinking about her. The bond between them, even though it was still barely tangible, was growing stronger.

She could feel it in her bones, in the air around her. Briar was close to discovering the truth. She could sense the girl's confusion and unease, and it was driving Olivia wild. She wanted to be the one to tell Briar, to hold her and explain everything. But she couldn't-at least, not yet.

"Olivia, we need to talk," Caleb's voice broke through her thoughts, and she turned to find him standing at the entrance of her office, his expression serious.

"What is it?" Olivia asked, leaning back in her chair.

Caleb stepped forward, his gaze serious. "We've been keeping an eye on Briar. She's struggling, Olivia. She's confused, and we both know how dangerous that can be for someone new to this world."

Olivia sighed, rubbing her temples. "I know. I feel it too. The connection is so strong already. But she's not ready yet. I don't want to overwhelm her."

Caleb crossed his arms, his voice soft but firm. "You know what happens when someone tries to fight their instincts. You've been through it yourself. If we don't step in soon, she might end up hurting herself-or worse, someone else."

Olivia's wolf stirred inside her, Lyra growling low in her chest. "I know," she murmured. "But I can't rush her. She needs to come to me in her own time. I won't force her."

Caleb nodded, though his concern didn't ease. "Just... be careful, Olivia. This is bigger than you and me. Briar's transformation is linked to the fate of our entire pack."

(Briar's POV)

By the time Briar made it to her first class of the day, her head was spinning. She'd tried to push all the thoughts about her transformation aside, but it was impossible. Every moment was a struggle to hold on to herself.

She couldn't focus in class. Her thoughts kept drifting back to the things her mom had said, to the strange feelings swirling inside her.

Then, halfway through the lecture, something happened.

Her senses exploded. She could hear the heartbeat of the person sitting two rows behind her. She could smell the faint scent of pine and earth in the air, something that wasn't there before. Her vision sharpened, and her skin tingled with an unfamiliar heat.

"What is happening?" Briar whispered to herself, her pulse quickening.

The rest of the class faded away as she stood up abruptly, unable to sit still any longer. The classroom fell into a hushed silence as she rushed out, her breath coming in shallow gasps.

She needed air.

(Olivia's POV)

Olivia could feel it. Briar was struggling, and it was more intense than ever before. She stood from her desk, her hand gripping the edge tightly.

"It's time."

With one final glance at Caleb, Olivia left the office, heading toward the direction of the human campus. She wasn't sure exactly where Briar was, but she could feel her-every emotion, every pulse of her energy. The pull was stronger than ever.

"Hold on, Briar," Olivia whispered to herself, determination filling her chest. "I'm coming for you."
