Hearing Ethan Smithâs words, Clarissa Johnson fell into silence.
âIf you canât do it, itâs not a big deal,â Ethan stood up and said.
âI also hope that the Halcroen Sect wonât bother me any more from now on. Letâs not get in each otherâs way,â he said.
Having said that, Ethan was about to leave.
But Clarissa stopped Ethan.
âFine. I agree,â she said solemnly.
Ethan raised an eyebrow, âIf you can really find Emily Taylor, Iâll agree.â
Clarissa smiled, âIn order to win Mr. Smithâs approval, weâll definitely do our best.â
Ethan didnât say anything more and turned to leave.
At this moment, Clarissa intercepted Ethan once again.
âWhat else do you want?â Ethan asked.
Clarissa smiled lightly, âIf Iâm not mistaken, youâre now agonizing over how to deal with the Capital City Martial Arts Association because you canât find a place to hide, right?â
âYes,â Ethan replied.
âI can give you a suggestion,â Clarissa continued.
Ethan looked at Clarissa in anticipation of her next words.
âMove your sect to the Immortal Slaying Sect,â she suggested.
This surprised Ethan.
It was indeed a good idea.
The doors of the Immortal Slaying Sect were shut so tight that no one could open them. Plus, the Capital City Martial Arts Association were rather apprehensive about the Immortal Slaying Sect. This was indeed a good place to hide.
However, Ethan soon dismissed this idea.
Shaking his head, he said, âFirstly, the doors of the Immortal Slaying Sect are closed. I canât get in.â
âSecondly, the Immortal Slaying Sect is under the sea, a place immensely dangerous with rampant murderous intentions. I might be able to withstand it, but it doesnât mean everyone can.â
Clarissa laughed, âItâs exactly because of this that you can use it to keep safe.â
âAs for how to get in, I may be able to help you figure it out. But of course, thatâs something to consider after our collaboration,â she proposed.
Ethan laughed scornfully. He did not respond to Clarissaâs words and turned to leave the place.
The next day was the day Ethan and the Capital City Martial Arts Association had agreed upon.
At dawn, Ethan made a call to Emerson Holmes to probe his intentions.
The voice at the end of the line was stern, âThe stance of the Capital City Martial Arts Association is very clear, we absolutely wonât let Emily Taylor go.â
Upon hearing this, Ethan couldnât help but let out a cold laugh, âGood, then Iâll give them a big gift.â
Saying this, Ethan immediately hung up the phone.
Although he had anticipated that the Capital City Martial Arts Association would not agree, he found it hard to restrain the anger surging within him.
âThen itâs a fight to the death,â he said coldly.
Then, Ethan turned his steps towards the basement.
He grasped the cage that imprisoned Davy Barnett and shoved him into the car.
At the same time, he instructed Vernon Sherman and Hadwin Webster to personally guard Barnett, preventing any chance of escape.
âWhat are you doing?â Barnett asked, trembling with fear.
Ethan glanced at Barnett and chuckled coldly, âYour association has forsaken you. Now itâs time to keep my promise.â
Barnettâs face changed drastically. âEthan, donât be reckless. I think we should talk!â he protested anxiously.
âThereâs nothing to talk about,â Ethan retorted coldly, starting the car simultaneously.
Barnett was in complete panic, realising he was really facing death, he was terrified!
His mind was racing, trying to come up with any possible countermeasures.
âEthan, I know many secrets of the Capital City Martial Arts Association. If you spare me, I can tell you everything!â Barnett shouted in desperation.
Upon hearing these words, Ethan was indeed intrigued.
As the chairman of the association for many years, Barnett certainly knew more about the Capital City Martial Arts Association than Emerson Holmes did.
So, Ethan parked the car at the side, smirked and said, âI admit, youâve got my attention now.â
Hearing this, Barnett sighed in relief.
Afterwards, Barnett said, âJust ask anything you want to know, as long as Iâm aware of it, Iâll tell you everything.â
Ethan looked at Barnett and asked in a deep voice, âWho are the higher-ups behind you, and what kind of cultivation they possess?â
Hearing this, Barnett had no choice but to shake his head, âI honestly have no idea, theyâve been present since I joined.â
âSo by your account, theyâve been around for many years? Which means they are not much younger than you,â Ethan spoke in a deep voice.
Barnett nodded immediately, âYes, according to my judgement, these eight higher-ups have not changed all these years.â
âIn terms of cultivation, their level is definitely above mine. Itâs very possible they have entered Martial Saint Realm.â
Ethanâs expression changed slightly.
So, the Capital City Martial Arts Association indeed had a Martial Saint.
âThese people may be relics from the previous era,â Barnett continued.
Ethan fell silent for a moment, then asked further, âIs it true that the Capital City Martial Arts Association has captured a Martial Saint?â
âCorrect!â Barnett didnât hide anything!
Hearing this, Ethan scoffed, âThe Capital City Martial Arts Association is so powerful, then why do they bow down to Kylan Taylor?â
Barnett gave a bitter smile, âAs you said yourself, Iâm just a pawn. Moreover, in this era, martial artists have long been forgotten.â
âOtherwise, why do you think the eight higher-ups are willing to hide in the shadows? I donât think anyone would want to spend decades, even centuries in hiding.â
Ethan nodded in silence.
This was indeed the truth; martial artists are after all a small group. Out of tens of thousands of people, it was rare to see a martial artist.
Only because the cultivation requirements for martial artists were much higher.
In this era, resources available for cultivation are extremely limited, hence, martial artists depend on top-grade herbs for cultivation.
And each of these top-grade herbs came at a staggeringly high cost, far beyond what average people could afford.
âThereâs one more question,â Ethan continued.
âAs far as I remember, I donât have any grudges with the Capital City Martial Arts Association, then why do they repeatedly attempt to kill me?â Ethan Thompson looked coldly at Barnett.
Upon hearing this, Barnett fell silent.
After pondering for a while, he said, âThis was also a directive passed down from the higher-ups. They are allegedlyâ¦afraid that you will pose a threat to the existence of the association.â
âBullshit, I was just a nobody back then, I was not worth the higher-upsâ attention,â Ethan scoffed.
Barnett agreed, âYouâre right. Not to mention the higher-ups, even I didnât think highly of you at first.â
âBut for some reason, the higher-ups were extremely cautious about how they handled you. Apparently, itâs because you bear some resemblance to a person from decades ago.â
Ethan furrowed his brow, âA person from decades ago?â
Barnett replied, âI have heard of a great war that took place many years ago, a person single-handedly killed dozens of Martial Saints from the Capital City Martial Arts Association.â
âKilled dozens of Martial Saints?â Ethan couldnât help drawing a cold breath.
Barnett said, âYes, but thatâs just a legend, Iâve never seen it myself.â
Ethan fell silent, lost in thought.
Could it beâ¦that man was Ethanâs father?
With this thought in mind, Ethan looked at Barnett anxiously, âWhat did that man look like? What happened to him in the end?â
