The past few weeks had brought Rivaan and Naina closer than ever. Their intimacy had become a nightly routine, something Naina still blamed on her pregnancy hormones, though Rivaan knew better. There was more to their connection than just physical desire. Every night, after their moments together, he would gently kiss her on the forehead or lips, whispering words that made her heart flutter. The warmth of his affection made her feel as if there was something deeper growing between themâsomething neither of them had spoken aloud yet.
Rivaan's mother, after their first meeting, had made it a habit of trying to meet with Naina under the guise of offering gifts or help. But every time Naina went to meet her, Katie was always there, and together, they would make passive-aggressive comments meant to unsettle her. Naina, however, had learned to ignore their words, knowing they werenât worth her energy.
One afternoon, Rivaan was deep in a business meeting when his phone rang. Seeing Nainaâs name flash on the screen, he excused himself briefly, worried it might be an emergency. He answered quickly, "Naina, is everything okay?"
On the other end of the line, Nainaâs voice was playful but commanding. "Listen, when you come home, bring something spicy...and something sweet too. And if you donât bring it, donât bother coming home," she said before promptly hanging up.
Rivaan stood there, staring at his phone in disbelief. He could feel the eyes of the people in the meeting room on him, waiting for him to continue. But it was Anamayâs wide grin that caught his attention. His brother clearly knew what was going on.
Rivaan chuckled under his breath, shaking his head as he pocketed his phone. "Looks like Iâve got my orders for the day," he muttered, still amused by Nainaâs sudden demand.
Anamay couldnât help but laugh. "Better bring what she asked for, or you might just find yourself locked out tonight."
Rivaan smiled, a warmth spreading in his chest. His life had taken unexpected turns, but it seemed the more unpredictable it became, the more he found himself enjoying it.
