Meanwhile, Naina sat in her small apartment, her thoughts swirling. Meera had left a few hours ago, but the warmth of their conversation lingered. Meera had always known how to ground her, to remind her of her strength when she felt like everything was falling apart.
She looked down at the ultrasound pictures in her lap. Her heart swelled with love and fear. Two tiny lives growing inside her. They depended on her, and no matter what happened with Rivaan, she knew she had to be strong for them.
A knock on the door pulled her from her thoughts. Naina frowned, not expecting anyone. She opened the door to find Rivaan standing there, his expression intense but softer than she had seen in months.
âNaina,â he began, his voice quiet but resolute. âI need to talk to you.â
Naina felt her chest tighten. After their conversation the day before, she hadnât expected him to come back so soon. âWhat is it, Rivaan?â she asked cautiously.
âI spoke to my mother,â he said, stepping into the apartment. âI confronted her about everything. I told her that she has no place in our lives anymore unless she can respect you and our family.â
Naina blinked, her heart pounding in her chest. She had always known how complicated Rivaanâs relationship with his mother was. Hearing him say he had finally stood up to her was⦠unexpected.
âAnd what did she say?â Naina asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
âShe was shocked, obviously. But it doesnât matter,â Rivaan said, stepping closer to her. âIâm done letting her control my life. Iâm done letting her hurt you. I want to be there for you, Naina. For our children. I donât care what she thinks anymore.â
Naina stared at him, her mind racing. Could she really trust him? Could she believe that he had changed, that he would stand by her this time?
âI donât know, Rivaan,â she whispered, her hand instinctively moving to her belly. âI donât know if I can trust you again.â
âI understand,â Rivaan said, his voice thick with emotion. âAnd Iâm not asking you to forgive me overnight. But Iâm here, and Iâm not going anywhere. I want to be part of this, part of our family.â
Nainaâs heart ached as she looked into his eyes. She could see the sincerity there, the regret, the love. But after everything, love wasnât enough. She needed stability, trust. And that would take time.
âI need time,â Naina finally said, her voice shaking. âI need to figure things out on my own.â
Rivaan nodded, his expression softening. âTake all the time you need. Iâll be here. Iâll wait for as long as it takes.â
As Rivaan turned to leave, Naina felt a small flicker of hope ignite in her chest. Maybe, just maybe, they could find their way back to each other. But for now, she needed to focus on herself and her babies.
And Rivaan needed to prove that he was truly ready to fight for their future.
